I was going to say the 1st one, but it looks like they are the same, just the 2nd one has gold plated ends (i.e. fancy) ?

yep one has a nice connection head while the other has a plain connection head. You are looking for TOSLINK to TOSLINK, so the first one works.

Both are toslink to toslink. So, you can choose anything. Buy one which you like.

K i just placed my order for the first ones the TOSLINK-TOSLINK and a 12ft hdmi-dvi cable. Anyone hear of any problems having an hdmi-dvi hooked up to your tv and the optical to your reciever for surround sound?

optical cables are exactly that: fiber-optic. Meaning "not electrical." They only transmit light, so there is no need for gold plated connectors or any other gimick. There is no such thing as partial signal loss or interference. You either have a transmitted bitstream or you don't. There is no inbetween with optical.

    Hey guys,

I set up my PS3 on my Samsung Syncmaster 920BW Monitor, which supports DVI with HDCP. It can only project at 720p and it was working fine, but when I installed update 1.30 through the System Settings and restarted the PS3, my monitor gave me an error message: "NOT OPTIMUM RECOMMENDED MODE: 1440 X 900 60Hz." I can't do anything at this point...How can I remedy this situation?

I also need to pick up an optical cable, but the fact that my PS3 isn't working now is just depressing...Just opened it out of the box a few minutes ago...

Your PS3 didn't stop working, update 1.3 prioritized 1080i output over 720p. Likely your display output was changed to 1080i and you monitor is not displaying it correctly.Either just follow the manual's instruction for resetting your PS3 to factory defaults and connect it to a tv with the a/v cables and reset the output to be 720p. Then just hook it up to your monitor and confirm the new settings.

This is how all our set ups are that have HDTVs and reciever systems.... there are the few of us here that have HDMI recievers... but there are no problems, this is how this stuff works, picture signal goes into HDTV and sound goes right into reciever. Youll be fine. Make sure in audio out setting in your PS3 you set it to have BITSTREAM.
