Secret function of Revolution controller revealed?

Computer Games Magazine claims they know what the so secret function of the revolution controller is. It’s not a DS style pad but rather a couple of spinning widgets inside a traditional pad that cause rotational resistance. Much like if you spin a bike wheel and you get that mysterious centrifugal effect. Like an invisible force that gives the pad rotational resistance.

    The magazine reads:

It's revolutionary in the same two senses that controller rumble is/was revolutionary: first, it's kind of actually not a huge deal, but controllers will eventually all have it because it is pretty neat; and second, it involves revolving. Simply, the Revolution controller will provide resistance to being tilted. No doubt this is done by some application of a tilt sensor such as the one in WarioWare: Twisted combined with rumble technology.

After all, rumble is just done by some off-balance widgets inside the controller spinning really fast. If they were balanced, they could provide enough rotational inertia— the same thing that makes bikes and motorcycles harder to tilt the faster they're going— to perform this trick.

The "could" is why Nintendo hasn't come out with it yet. Yeah, they say they don't want it to be copied, which is valid because I'm sure it will be, just not anytime soon. What's really happening is Nintendo is trying to make this work with wireless controllers, finding the optimal trade-off between spinning the widgets fast enough to produce a good, strong effect and keeping the controller from eating batteries too quickly. Oh, and it has to be cheap and reliable, too.

Why this isn't just another Revolution rumour: I'm hurt, I really am. You think I would do that to you? Well, even if you don't believe me this time, I'm betting you will in the future. So there.

So there you have it, if you believe them that is. With all the rumors that have been flying lately about the NR controller I guess nobody will know for sure untill Nintendo starts talking. If what CGM wrote happens to be the real deal we won't know how revolutionary this will prove to be before we actually get to try it out and see how it will impact gameplay.

NB: The picture below is NOT REAL! Only put there as an example!

NB NB: And I don't think the controller is a big spinning bike wheel. People in game forums say the darndest things...Yes I can track and read all your posts...It's very entertaining

It's not a pic of the suppossed new controller, but a concept of how that feature (The Rotational Resistance) would look like in the controller.

haha i remember seeing that not that long ago there, i was laughing so hard at it, it looks damn ugly...im so glad that wasnt real anyway, if it was, Nintendo messed up their line of controllers for sure

Well im sure all this will be over soon, not too much of a fan of the resistance thing they were mentioned to possibly be using, well hopefully when its finally released, our minds can go to rest
    I have no signature.
No, really, i don't. You're just imagining this.

Maybe until Nintendo announces the controller.
By the way, I'm not that into Nintendo stuff...
Where does the idea come from about the controller being the revolutionary aspect of the Nintendo Revolution?

The president of Nintendo said something along the lines of "The next thing in gaming wont be seen, it will be felt"

    and thus the insanity ensued.

I like the idea of the resistance to the tilting. It really is an innovataion in the gaming industry. I just hope it looks better than the pic they have shown. I understand that it wil lnot look like that, I just hope it won't.

This could actually be what the controller will have. It makes some sense with the name Revolution. Maybe they don't mean that it's an actual "revolution" in gameing, but just that the thing in the controller revolves. Or maybe I just have no idea what I'm talking about. I'd say the latter.

Log in with your PS3Forums account. However, I think Seb would need to give you permissions. Ask him about that.
