New members don't ever read the rules so when they register we make them read the rules and give them a kind of a quiz so they atleast know
Here's a example
How many words per post minimum
5(there is a box here to fill in and if they get it wrong they don't get to register and have to retry)

ya i already posted this idea but it is good. i went to one forum where when you register the rules pop up the first couple of times. it made me read them even though i already knew them.

That would be a good idea however phpBB may not have a hack for this but I may be wrong. If there isn't a hack for it then some one would have to Code it in and that may be hard for the Admins to do.

I was thinking of something like this as well, although it may put people off, its like "what i need to be smart to post in this forum..F*** that!"
I was thinking more along the lines of auto PMs for new users.
And say something like this:
"Welcome to PS3 Forums.
To make your life and the life of the forum members easier, would you please read over the forums rules and guidelines before you post.
[links]
If you have any questions about the rules, feel free to PM the Administrators, Moderators or Senior Members Council and they will do as much as they can to help you with your query.
We hope you enjoy your time on the forums"
Or something similar to that, possibly have even more in it.
This might get the attention of more members that register to the site, im sure it would more than any other way, apart from force feeding them the rules, and clicking accept lolI have no signature.
No, really, i don't. You're just imagining this.

i think it was gamefaqs forum or something that did the rules pop up thing not sure. i think the pm thing would be easier and might work because some people like to check pm's like me and others could care less and just forget about it. mabe evertime someone breaks the rules have everyone bug the person to read the rules unless its something little or if they have been around for a while and just made a accedent. i think the pm thing is a good idea, mabe even add the quiz like use aim or yahoo messenger to do it.

........come on guys, dont let a few idiots reuin it for the rest of us. there are still plenty of newcomers who read the rules when they join. we shouldn't try to let the few idiots rack our brains on them.
most people are smart enough as it is and for those who dont get it right away, i guess we'll have tot ell them a few times but that should be all. if they still dont get it then they will have to learn soon or else they wont be hereyou game? http://www.ps3forums.com/showthread.php?t=55990

Hate to say it but that just won't work. school is hard, people don't want to take a test if they don't need to.

I don't know, I like the mod with the oversized ego and a big sarcasm stick myself

Seriously though, I think this would just further annoy new posters and possibly turn off even some good posters from the forum.
I think we are handling things fine right now. We have plans to continue to grow the moderators and SMC and both are doing a fine job.

08-27-2005 #11that gave me a idea, how about the mods and admin let us smack them into shape when they do bad posts for a little while before they go right to locking it. i think it might work. especially with siren words. Most of the real idiots get either smacked into shape fast or banned

ya i was just saying we could do this because they would be flamed about it but your right it would be immature. what we do now is fine and is working good. we are more than likely going to lose those members that dont care about the rules and stuff after the systems come out anyways.

Ok, it would be nearly impossible to test new members, not only that but what person would want to go through that when there are millions of gaming forums.

Re: Initiation
I like the idea, but I think its just too much trouble for the mods and new users... but maybe what should happen is when a new member registers, they will be redirected automatically to the rules thread.

Is there a mod to implement these ideas into the forum?

While I can't honestly say I dislike this idea, it would dramatically slow down the number of registered users. Personally, if a forum made me take a test to join, I'd say "screw this! I'll go somewhere else!" and that is probably what most others would do. Either way, people tend to learn the rules pretty quickly. Hell, 90% of them are the same as on every other forum on the internet. The only one that is a little off(for me anyways) is the 5 word limit. But, I learned.
Wait... we had to ask permission for that? I just did it anyways!

So what's the deal on this. are mods going to support this idea. I still think it's going to make people mad.
