I have just sold my old Mitsubishi rear projection and am looking at this Sammy. It is gonna cost me about $2,500. I was wondering if anyone has this TV or have heard if it is a good 1080p set or not. I have read some reviews at various sites but I wanted to get perspective from gamers.

I read the samsungs have a lot of overscan issues from the AVS forum.
I would stick with Sony V2500 and Sharp 62U and even the Toshiba regza series if I were you.
Toshiba 42HL196 is on sale these days less tha $2000. I'm in Canada and it's $1799CDN. Although input maxes out at 1080i input, the panel is a true 1080P and upconverts it and so it's almost the "same".

Can you elaborate on what overscan is?
Please continuee to post thoughts on the Sammy as well.

Buy it!
I just bought the LNS4095D, and it is friggin BAD A55.... I got it for $1500 at best buy. My buddy works there and he matched Amazons price
Overscan is not an issue, unless you plan on hooking it up to your pc... but thats not what I bought the TV for anyways.......
, No issues (overscan) while hooked up to my PS3.

LocalRider#7, I think generally you're safe to go with the major name brands it's just that feature wise, the ones I've mentioned are on par and if not above Samsung.
I just don't like the pricing on the Samsung for the 1080P series of lately.
Other brands at similar size cost a little less.
And i've looked at the picture quality and they don't impress me as much as Sony and Sharp. I find the colours on the Sony/Sharp much more natural looking. The samsung ones are a bit soft to my eyes but this is subjective.
I suggest you go into a store and take a look at the various brands yourself but take into consideration the source they use is crappy (signals have that been split many times to accomodate all the TVs they have in store). And also the fact that most LCD TVs needs calibration of some sort in order to get the "perfect" image quality but of course unless you're a true videophile it won't matter as much.
Like I said pay particular attention to the following models: Sony V2500, XBR2 (if it is not out of your budget), Sharp D62U, Toshiba HL,LX, LZ (the lastest LZ series support full 1080 input via HDMI).
Sharp D62U are the only sets that supports full 1080P via HDMI/component.

So what is the overscan issue? What does it do? I don't plan on hooking up to a PC but I'd still like to know what is is.
WiredUp what other TVs did you consider and what led you to pick this one? Are there any features that you don't like? I hae heard that there is some clicking sounds that come from the TV when it changes formats and stuff. Is that true?
Thanks again. Keep the comments coming.

Overscan means if you hook up a PC to it via VGA or HDMI-DVI input (whatever they have) and don't support 1:1 pixel mapping then the result is shift in picture and sometimes results in bit of fuzziness. I don't believe the Samsung supports full 1080P 1:1 mapping for PC input..from what I read but I'm not 100% sure; so hence the overscan.
take a look at this link

I dont get any clicking when changing inputs. I actually had to test this just now, I have a sony reciever hooked up and I get clicking form the reciever. not the TV.
I also considered the sony's in the same category (cant remember the model numbers) that did 1080p also. But for the price you cant beat the samsung. Samsung actually supplies the LCD's for Sony
.
the only difference in the sets are the proccesing technology, and in my opinion you cant go wrong with either manufacturer.Eric Cartman: You so much as TOUCH kitty's ass, and I'll put a firecracker in your nutsack and blow your balls all over your pants.

LocalRider#7 just to let you know, XBR2 panel was rated as top panel in a lot of reviews and the V2500 is a very similar panel subtract the DRC 2.5 feature and one less HDMI input which doesn't do a lot unless you're viewing SD sources and even then it's only a slight improvement. Also as a bonus, if you have an xbox360, you can connect via vga for full 1080P. God forbid you should buy one of course =)..LOL. I heard it will self detonate if it detects a PS3 within 2 feet (built-in self defense mechanism by your friendly Microsoft corp.)
But for the cost difference, I would go with the Sony V2500 if it's in your budget range. I believe in the US, it goes for under $2000 for the 40".

Ok, guys. Samsung no longer has overscan problems. They added "JustScan" mode to match 1:1 pixel for PC mode by firmware update. So you might need to call service center to update the firmware to enjoy the full screen. Please make sure call them before making the sammy purchase.

This is a GREAT TV!!!! I bought this in the anticipation of the PS3 and it was well worth it! The picture is phenomenal, having HD and the Blu-Ray player in the PS3 is amazing, and when compared to a relatives 42" Sammy Plasma, this has a better picture.
The picture is awesome, as well as the sound. Even if you don't have surround sound, the speakers on the TV will make up for it, and it actually sounds like surround sound with those two speakers.

I'm getting almost the same TV as you for my bedroom except the one I'm getting is a 40" and it's the LN-S4096D I can't really remember the difference between the 95D and 96D but all I know is it was on sale over at a local retailer so I decided to get the 96 over the 95. But ya I've been doing a lot of reading online today from customer reviews all over the place and AVS, seems like it's a solid set. I was thinking about get the Sony 40" 1080p LCD the non-XBR one but I liked the look of the Samsung more and the picture quality seemed about equal when I went to look at them in person at store but I know you really can't judge them well enough there. Another reason I decided on the Samsung was it apparently supports 1080p through component cables along with HDMI which was a nice bonus since my PS3 and HD cable box can go into the HDMI inputs and I can connect my 360 with components and still get 1080p.

This is actually a very good TV.
I was at Best Buy looking at this and a Sony BRAVIA.
They both Support 1080p and the price was exactly the same.
I chose to go with Sony only because the contrast ratio was better.
Samsung is the new sony and in my personal opinion they make the best LCD's in the world.

I am actually considering to buy that Samsung model, I heard only good things about it. The Sony XBR has the better contrast ratio but at least at my local Best Buy, it is WAY more expensive. Check out www.Amazon.com, they have a nice discussion about this TV and compare it to the Sony. Both are amazing.

Problem with the SAMSUNG LNS4695D.....
Don't buy it if you want to hook up your PS3 using an HDMI cable and use the 1080P setting. It creates wavy lines across the screen. The problem goes away ifyou set it to 1080i, Samsung is giving me the run around because it is a problem with that model. I took my PS3 to circuit city and tried it on the same model i have here at home and it had the same problem. You cannot use the 1080P using HDMI on the LNS4695D. I am going to get a Sony XBR3 I think.

Hmm interesting I have the LN-S4096D and don't have that problem with my Blu-ray movies or games in 1080p hooked up with Monoprice HDMI cables. From what I heard the 95D and 96D only difference is a cable card slot, the bottom of the 95 is silver while the 96 is clear, and some other minor things. I wonder what could be causing it because as I was typing this I even tried to look for it it myself just to make sure and couldn't notice anything wrong on GTHD or NBA 07 in 1080p. But goodluck with the XBR3 though that was the TV I orginally wanted but being close to an extra $800 more then the 40" Sammy it was just getting too expensive, it's one sexy as hell TV though.

The problem that I had wasn't only in game mode, or in Movie Mode, it was also happening on the main menu of the PS3. The problem wasn't the cable because I tried two different ones, a cheap one from new egg, and a monster 400.
Got the XBR2 because the store didn't have the XBR3, I am okay with that since the XBR2 and 3 are the same tv with different face plates. I will just buy a new plating for it to look as slick as the XBR3. The color is a lot better on the XBR2 than the Samsung, but I had to get a 40 inch and I really miss those 6 extra inches I had on the Samsung. I didn't want to pay 1000.00 more for a 46in. XBR2. Will Keep this forum updated with what Samsung eventually tells me, even though I don't have the TV i am letting them stew with this problem.

XBR2/XBR3 TVs come professionally calibrated. The Samsungs do not. They are of comparable image quality otherwise. I personally don't think the Sonys are worth hundreds more, but that's just me.

Not exactly...its kida useless like the original XBR1's released last year. The less you have to scale the image, the better it will be. It will not look the "same" but a bit better then the normal pannel. I would save for a "true" 1080p set.
And the contrast on that Toshiba you are talking about is terrible (800:1?!)
