gamesindustry.bizNintendo of America's charismatic VP of sales and marketing Reggie Fils-Aime has confirmed that the company is aiming to launch its next home console in the same timeframe as Sony's PS3, and attacked Microsoft's "rush" to the next generation.
"Our focus is this: we will bring Revolution to the marketplace roughly at the same time as the competition," Fils-Aime told US website IGN. "We are driving our timetables based on what we believe Sony will do."
While Nintendo may be watching Sony to work out when to jump on the next generation, the company is less sold on Microsoft's approach. "Not that I want to ignore the Xbox," Fils-Aime qualified, "but certainly we believe that a rush to a new system is a mistake."
This is the second time in recent months that a senior Nintendo executive has attacked Microsoft's seeming haste in moving to a next-generation platform - speaking at the ELSPA Game Summit in London last June, former Nintendo Europe boss David Gosen said that "in every cycle, some manufacturer not profiting from the current cycle is eager to kick-start the next one," and suggested that profitability was not Microsoft's "key motivation" with the Xbox.
Fils-Aime also confirmed that the forthcoming Nintendo DS handheld could potentially be used to link up with the GameCube console, and will almost certainly boast link features with the Revolution platform.
"Could there be interactivity with GameCube?" he said. "Potentially. Depends on the software and accessories needed from a GameCube perspective. But it's certainly possible. Could there be interaction with the Revolution? Certainly possible. Certainly capable."
i might make a comment on this when im not so tired but i would like to hear all your thoughts on it so speak up

Well there's nothing really wrong I think nintendo attack MS because of the rumor of
Microsoft Nintendo coming soon...and they hated that because MS was gonna buy them...but of course Nintendo didn't let em

Wow that is one I haven't heard in a while.
MS hasn't tried to buy Nintendo since roughly 1998/99 timeframe. Back then they offered roughly 25 Billion for them.
These days Nintendos market cap barely breaks 10 Billion. On top of that MS has built a name for themselves in the console market.
Don't get me wrong, I am sure that if Nintendo came to MS offering to sell, MS would be open to negotiations. But my understanding is that MS hasn't offered to buy them since the original offer.
Now Sega, and others, well that is a different story for a different time. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. This is a personal communication and in no way represents the official or unofficial views or opinions of my employer.

Well I certainly hope MS doesn't buy Nintendo. Nintendo seems to be attacking many of it's competitiors in this fashion, complaining that it's philosophies are wrong.

i dont wanna sound like a mod (but i am one on anouther site lol) but try to post more than one word.
as for nintendo, i just think they are a lil upset because while their products are very innovative and original, they just are not selling. Reminds me alot of the downfall of sega. Sega made alot of innovative products with their consoles but it just didnt sell well enough.

First of all I’m no fanboy. And second I’m just telling it like it is. Nintendo has always since 1985 been first or basically tied in first place as far as consoles are concerned. And we never heard any talk from them like you do today. If you think what I’m saying is lame talk to your boys at Nintendo. They are the ones talking bad about everybody. First I read were they dogged Sony about the PSP saying that its not a real handheld gaming device and now this with M$. They need to worry about themselves and stop worry about what other companies are doing.

Nintendo is actually being very smart in one regard. They are not letting the gaming public forget about them. They are doing everything in their power to stay in the news and stay recoginized.
The only problem, if they don't pull off the revolution or if the PSP takes significant marketshare, they are just going to become a laughing stock. Absouly true, Sonys staring to get on ninendos handheld turf if Ninendo dont start pulling back some customers, there going to be the laughing stock... its a real shame, but i think there right that M$ are rushing to the next generation...

Not really. Not when you have 2 other consoles coming out within 6 months. No rush at all.
-

I find it funny when people say MS is rushing this generation.
1) They are coming out just 4 - 6 months before Sony launches the PS3 in Japan
2) They have been working on the Xbox2 for over 2 years already.
3) The Xbox original was the real rushed console. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. This is a personal communication and in no way represents the official or unofficial views or opinions of my employer.

Yeah, I agree. It's not being "rushed"...just being released a little earlier. The Xbox was just slapped together and thrown out to the market to be sold. But the "Xbox 2" has been worked on, tweaked and prepared for release for quite some time now.

oh and how did sony's name come about, if it was on the previous page sorry,

-
01-08-2005 #18Um, Im thinking the soft has to do with the development of "soft"ware possibly. But alot companies get thier name from a founder or some other signifcant person.

I agree with both Peanut and siren but I must admit that I don't think they were talking about that kind of rushed. When Nintendo says rushed I think they're talking about not finishing the current lifecycle that consoles of the past have always had. They did shorten the lifecycle of their current console by about a year and us guys here know how much a year's R&D can do for a next gen console system these days.
But even after saying that I still don't have a problem with M$ releasing the Xenon when they are. I love the fact that they are pushing Sony. I'm a Sony man, its just I love competition between companies.

01-09-2005 #21Considering M$ claims that XBox 2 is alredy finished and ready to be put on the market by the end of this year, and Nintendo has been and still is working on Revolution since a little after the release of Gamecube, I would say that compared to what will be a little under 3 years of development by Nintendo, M$ is rushing XBox 2 by what could be only a maximum of 1 and a half years of development.
