I have it. I believe it's one of the best Blu-ray titles out there as far as picture quality goes. What you have to remember is that almost this entire movie is shot in a cave, so there's alot of low-light situations, you aren't going to see great bright colors in this movie, it's got a very dark feel to it. There are about 3 minutes worth of scenes in the whole movie that are very grainy because it was almost pitch black so they had to use higher ISO film to get any detail.
It's also one of the first movies with a 7.1 LPCM soundtrack (if you've got the gear to process it, most people don't). I saw it in the theater and enjoyed it, so I bought it. If you like a decent thriller, I'd recommend it.
Oh, and I love Natalie Mendoza

Just bought/watched it last night.
If you are a horror fan you'll love this movie.
Lots of jump out at you (or as I call them funhouse scares) moments where the music gets super loud because something startling happens, the unrated version is uber violent and horribly disgusting(I mean it's not Dead Alive(Brain Dead for you folks across the pond), gory, but it has a lot of the old ultra violence in the last half of the movie.
The picture and sound are top notch. Probably one of the better looking Blu-ray movies I've watched(I've seen T2, X3, Fantastic Four, Kung Fu Hustle, Devil's Rejects, Talladega Nights, and now The Descent)
The first quarter to half of the movie is buildup(there is a few scares in the beginning, but not a lot), but the last half is just a balls out action/horror/thriller.
The director even aped the score from John Carpenter's Thing, and when he was asked what was his favorite horror movies influential wise, he listed The thing right away. You can tell it to from the bleak, claustrophobic atmosphere that just drips from every scene in the last half of the movie.
In other words, I liked it

*spoiler of movie*
Well i don't know if it was a "balls out" movie seeing as the only male in the movie was killed off. I thought of this movie as a very "girl power" movie with a lot of corny instances in which it showed the women kicking ass and taking numbers, showing that they can do it too (very unrealistic in my opinion). Also, I hate when the main character stabs her friend who her husband cheated on with, her only help against these creatures, because it was rediculous but seems something a woman would do. Aside from this, the movie had a lot of shocking moments and had a decent plot. The Blu-ray copy of this is very good and did as good of a job as possible in the pitch black scenes. If you liked the movie get the Blu-ray. By the way I'm not actually sexist.

Well the movie title was descent, which was also a metaphor for the main character's descent into madness.
By the end of the movie, she had lost EVERYTHING, and had obviously lost her mind. I mean when she was sitting in the cave at the end of the flick doing what she was doing, you know she wasn't playing with a full deck any longer.
And how is it not very realistic that women, who train to climb mountains, and very physically fit, and in better condition than I'll ever be in, would be able to fight like they did?
Honestly if I was trapped in a cave with boogens, my wife would do a much better job of killing the creatures than I could. She's meaner than me

terrible "tip of the iceberg" horror film.... come on.. .wheres the actual horror movies these days? We need to revive the 70's!! Give me Lucio Fulci over this tripe anyday!!
Seriously.. ugh.
But.. having said my piece about the actual film, the quality is good on blu-ray.

Just thought I'd make another comment. Another friend of mine got a PS3 last week, he wanted to watch the movie so we went over to his room and watched it. He's got a decent surround sound system, Kenwood 5.1 receiver, decent speakers, sub, etc, etc, connected through optical set to bitstream.
I couldn't believe the sound quality difference between my setup which does 7.1 LPCM/TrueHD/etc compared to his "good" 5.1 setup. I heard sounds and details in mine that just weren't there in his. It's like this with most movies I've watched on someone else's setup. I was very disappointed.
I guess for those of you who haven't heard LPCM audio on the Blu-ray movies you don't know what you're missing. I'd highly suggest if you are thinking about upgrading your surround sound system spend the extra $300 and get a good HDMI switching receiver that can process next-gen audio formats like LPCM/TrueHD/DTS-HD.
As for the guy who said he saw white speckles throughout the dark scenes, I'm not sure what you're talking about. I've watched it on my 110" projector screen and on my friend's 37" LCD and neither displayed what you saw.United States Air Force Enlisted E-5
