xbox 360 for ~$230

Game Crazy ("game department" at hollywood video) is doing a promotion right now for 50% markup trade-in value on consoles. That basically means they'll give you 50% more than they normally give you for trading in a console.

The trade in value of a PS3 is $500, so they will give you $750 store credit right now, as long as you purchase an xbox 360. So I took my PS3, traded it in, got the $750 credit, bought a 360 premium ($400, no tax b/c it's store credit), had $350 left over, and put that towards my own PS3 (they sell used PS3's for $580), Remaining total was 230 + tax on 230 (not tax on 580, because 350 of that is store credit and not taxable).

PS3 --> $750 (store credit) - $400 (360) = $350

(to buy back own PS3) $350 (store credit remaining) + $230 of your own money + tax on 230 = remaining amount to buy PS3 back, which is essentially the same amount you're paying for the premium (because it's out of pocket).

It's still going on in some parts of the country until the 8th, but in my city it expired on the 2nd.

This would be a great plan...as long as they allow you to buy back your system right away. Some places won't allow you to do that. Some places say it has to go back on the shelf before you can buy it, I've seen some places say you can't buy it back for 24 hours, etc...you get the idea. Nice that they let you get away with it though.

Yep, I am. They were nowhere to be seen when I went shopping yesterday. The guy behond the counter said that they wont be getting any stock until March and even then it will be limited.

Yep...NONE around the DC/VA/MD area. Completely impossible to find one.

Game Crazy is a subsidary of Hollywood video, so whereever you see an HV you should see a GC section of the store. I'm pretty sure they have them in NJ.

Maybe Madden, but I think I will get that for PS3. I haven't heard or seen of too many other thilling games for 360, but then again I haven't really looked (because I just got a system). I also don't really like getting a lot of games--I like getting a few games and mastering them.

Also, LaOMaN, some people did just what you said (bought at BB, traded in, then returned). The only thing I wondered about was whether or not they opened the PS3 when you sold it to them. If they did, then you would probably have to pay restocking fee at BB, right?
