Analysts bet on 360 price cut during March to June

Analysts are specualting that the Xbox 360 will experience a $100 price cut as it aims to dominate the industry. I thought $50-$75 would be the amount personally but let's see how it plays out.

Goodman put a few more chips on the table, telling GameSpot he was looking at the March-June time frame as fertile ground for a price drop--and that if Microsoft really wanted to disrupt the console playing field, it would slash the price by $100.

"It's a market share battle," Goodman said. The $100 cut in price is what Microsoft would do "if [it] wants to be super competitive--put Sony against the wall and put competitive pressure on the Wii."

I'd like to see them cut the HD-DVD player down to $100, I might buy one then. I don't think we'll see a $100 price drop---more than likely it will be the usual $50 one.

If they did a $100 drop though, it'd be huge and would really make a lot of people who are sitting on the fence or saving up to buy a Ps3 think about changing their minds.

its going to be like this. there will be bundles with free games free 3 months xbox live. then boom nov 2007 2 year aniversy there going to drop $100

It would be an interesting move, but I'm not too sure it would happen this early. I assume that there will be a pricecut, but I more see it towards the end of the year to get more sales in the christmas market. After all all consoles will have been out for a while and this is going to be the first christmas where MS have to fear them.

$100 USD is exactly what I am expecting, it's a really cut throat price for Sony as they don't really have the room to move and a system as powerful for half the price would be very tempting in the mainstream or fence sitters.

Does the x360 even have any rpgs released in america? i have an hdtv but no next gen system. Im an rpg fan and waiting for prices to drop. If the 360 drops 100 and has rpgs i would buy it. I could then get a ps3 and its rpgs half a decade from now at good prices too. If i decide against the 360 i will get a ps3 when ff13 comes out.

I like final fantasy and such. World of warcraft was good but i will never pay to play an rpg though.

They might have to in order to stay on top with sales as of right now. Wii and PS3 will surely catch up soon if MS does not take measures to counter low sales they will likely experience during the PS3 launch in PAL.

Considering how well the 360 is selling at $300 and $400, it's going to get interesting when the price cut comes. The Wii will will no longer be the *much cheaper than the rest* console, while the PS3 will be uprgraded from *much more expensive* to *ridiculously more expensive* status.

The way I see it the best thing MS could do right now is release the "new" 360 at the current price of the Premium bundle. Then put the Premium at the price of the Core and drop the Core all together. That right there would put Sony in a bad situation. It would be interesting though to see how they would respond to that.

I agree with the first 2 points, but why drop the Core?

Dropping the price of the core to $199 and MS will get a buttload of new customers who dont need the stuff a premium offers. This way MS will gain a whole new level of customers - ones who dont want to pay more than $199, which are the ones who are currently purchasing xbox1 and ps2.

If you dont care about going online , then the core is a good bet. Though you will need a memory card. Well , you could still go online with the core , but you cant DL content with out the HDD , im pretty sure.

if MS does give the 360 v2 a 120g HDD, i really don't think they can make it $400. They would prob be losing 150-200 on the system if they did that. With the HANA chip, HDMI, the 65nm chip and the 120g thats a lot to release at $400. If MS is willing to take a hit (which they can, they are MS), then they'll prob do it. If they do drop the price I would expect to see a surge of 360's til a little after the 07 holiday season.

Hard drives aren't exactly expensive. Look at this one, keep in mind it's RETAIL and it's 7200RPM.

I've waited for over a year now for this, and I predicted it will happen in exactly that time period. I've been telling my friends that MS should drop the price before summer. The day they do, is the day I purchase my 360. (Halo 3 already reserved)
