I know. Those 360s are in stacks everywhere, aren't they?

But seriously, I'm amazed. If stores are buying, it's because shoppers are too. Looks like sales aren't slowing down too much for PS3 and Wii yet.Now writing: two Ratchet & Clank novels, a Sly 4 novel, and two rock albums

Very good news. Things are looking good for a solid EU/rest-of-the-planet launch in March.
So two million Blu-ray players in homes (soon)... good news for the format war also.

wow... i find this kind of hard to believe...
If its true then Sony has done a great job with supply. There goal of 6 million by the end of March doesn't seem too far fetched now...
But I am not sure I believe it.
I wish they had more games out. That's the only thing holding the system back imo. Price is not really a deterrent as far as I can tell.

I am stunned that some people appear to love their Playstation(1,2,3) or Xbox(360) more than I love the Denver Broncos.
Trust me, it's sad

Interesting news. I had figured only about 1.5 shipped worldwide, but hey, the more, the better. I'm wondering how long it will take to breach the 2 million mark though. I'm betting on a slight sales surge in February, because I'm sure people who didn't have the chance to purchase one during the holiday season are saving up money now that they are becoming more widely available.

Since the holidays have ended, I've actually been seeing some PS3's in stock. Most of them are the 60GB model, I've only seen one 20GB.
So why haven't I bought one? None of the games really interest me. That's not saying that those games aren't good, but they just aren't the types of games I play. That's the underlying problem...
Its nice to see that Sony is getting some systems out on the market, but they really need to get some more AAA games out to draw in buyers. Once people start seeing games they want to purchase, not multi-platformers, you'll see those shipped numbers quickly turn into sold numbers.

Sure Sony missed the 2million shipped by the end of the year but the missed the mark by 15 days wow that is not bad. Considering the major issues they had this is great news looks like that thing about Sharp making blu-ray diodes is helping with Sonys production.

No they'll sell 6 million PS3's more or less in April, they'll ship 6 million in March.
Unless you mark a PS3 and stare at it all week you can't say that they're not selling by that logic neither the PS2 or DS were selling over the holidays either because i didn't see a sold out sign in every shop i went to.
It's highly unlikely that any console remains sold out consistently for the whole year running, unless the supply is really really low.Big Boss Emblem FTW!

I'm getting slightly peeved that they keep giving us 'shipped' numbers, sales is what matters, what's in peoples homes, not what has gone out of the factory door. Sales figures are what drives a business, not the number of units in the production channels.
Having said that, the company I work for fudges our figures the same way, so it must be the way it's done these days.

I don't know about fastest selling. PS2 was already at 1,62M in 9th week in Japan, while PS3 is at 543k. I guess its the supply problems so we can expect them to hit 1M in a week or so.
http://www.vgcharts.org/japconscomps...type=0&align=0We believe multiple SKUs just confuse consumers so we will just stick to one SKU....a year later... 20GB, 40GB (no BC), 60GB (US full BC, EU limited BC), 80GB, 160GB, more to come...

If they have shipped that many why still "SOLD OUT" on www.ps3finder.com
circuitcity seems to be the only store with a none-bundled PS3 in stock. (and ebay
)

Nice try but when the PS2 launched in japan that was what Sony sold worldwide.

And how on earth could Sony sell 543K PS3's when they initially launched with 192K units and then 490K in December in America alone.
I also thought VGCharts was BS... or was the Nextgenwars... awe hell they're both BS.Big Boss Emblem FTW!

Sony shipped = MS sold = retailers ordered and bought them.
Sony shipped is the retailer has received the product, while MS sold is the product can be still in MS warehouses.
Both simply tell us how many consoles are out there. However if a retailer doesnt think they can sell them, they wont restock. So the numbers are usable, what will be more important is when MS announce the next milestone, if there is none, while Sony makes more announcements, it means retailers are still trying to sell 360 xmas stock and havent re-ordered.
