lock old threads

IMO, old threads should be locked. I just got an infraction for posting in one, but i didn't even know that it was old. Wondering why? because i clicked on an interesting topic (one of those at the bottom of the screen, where there are about 4 related topics), and i posted in it. How was i supposed to know it was old, i didn't look at when it was made, or when it was last posted in. Who really cares about that..?

Dude that is a lot of freaking threads, besides for those who reopen them should have a valid reason to. Still you should always check, out of habit anyway.

It depends on what you're talking about. If it is for example PS3 is going to be $400 or those really old rumors that is false. But if it is something different it is ok.

By posting in an old thread do you mean you went to like page 10 on the history and posted in it bringing it back into page one making everyone think it was new news? cause that deserves an infraction

EDIT: Oh, i just read what you actually wrote. Yeah those related threads are dumb. I think those should be removed from view rather than actually locking old threads

More like posting in an old thread like from October that has been debunked as a rumor and people are still speculating as is and continuing it. Also really old news that has nothing to do with current ones that are more recent like for instance those concerning PS3 launch in Spring in the US/Japan but you know full well it came out already but still talking about this nevertheless.

not long at all, i ment auto-lock btw. After a certain amount of time for not being posted in, or if it was made so long ago that it is probably irrelevent.

Such as 1 month or so because during the PS3 launch release that that thread stayed open for many months. I would see that lesser topics instead would use that auto-lock feature more effectively. However there needs to be a better definition of what is deemed "auto-lock" material to begin with.

^^ Agreed people would be messing up really good topics if that were to happen. If the TS were given the option of locking their own thread, I think a Mod should come in to over see the process and pass final judgment if there is a suitable reason to close a specific topic, no matter how old or recent.

Whatever the case locking old topics, whether they are debunked or rather past issues that hold little relevance in the now, would take too much effort and issues presently in the forums has gone upwards in recent times. In other words, there are more important things to deal with. Just watch where you post especially in old topics by accident, its better to be cautious with that to prevent infractions or warnings from befalling you.

Yeah ... if the last post there (before you post) is a few months back or something it is old but some threads it is still ok.
