yeah, the trend favors now the blu-ray.
The ps3 had definitely a strong impact.
If the ps3 continues to sell, then the blu-ray success is assured.
If the blu-ray success is assured, then the ps3 will continue to sell.
It is the virtuous circle, Sony has in mind from the beginning.
Even Microsoft cannot anything about that. Not with only 100k hddvd hdmi-less addon.
Remember, the dreamcast had strong games, online play, but no DVD.life is short, enjoy it

I've been watching the HDGameDb graphs for a few weeks now. That's an impressive upturn in sales by Blu-ray; however I'd be wary of calling it a win just yet. The two have been interweaving the whole time, and this time next week it could just as easily be HD-DVD on top by the same margin. I do think Blu-ray will win in the end, but I'm a bit cautious about the sense of closure some peope on these boards have w.r.t the format war.

I wouldn't say it's 'dominating' when overall if 6% (of the total percentage) who bought Blu-ray's last month had bought HD-DVDs instead..
However it has clearly been winning over the last few months.
Got to be weary of calling the format war over though; for now that could just be the 'kickback' of the extra amount of PS3s being in peoples homes.. people are probably buying more Blu-Ray disks now than they will in a few months as they have only just got their disk player and it's a new feature to try out. Of course this will continue in the future but maybe not quite to the same extent...

PS3 will be the first player to really penetrate the Europe market too. (there are no cheap players here yet)
People here are just in the past year or so moving over to HDTVs so if the PS3 sells well here it's pretty much a done deal. It will make Blu-ray "win".

I'll say it's pretty big when you have to consider saturation.
Bascially while you have things juggling in new releases, there is more releases in one area then another.
This is pretty obvious when you consider a release is most popular when it's just released (unless you got some off the chart simultaneously new consumers on the market).
So if you got a 4:1 amount of new releases(title popularity not withstanding) then each one can make a 4:1 sales.
It's a bad senerio for HD-DVD.
They have to really hope that the other side has crappy releases because not only does the player(access) market is expanding againist their favor, but also the content and the sales per unit.
The next few months will be telling. You can win in one area and lose in the other. But if you're constantly loosing in all 3 then...well
