If you want to know exactly what the update entails, I translated the overview of the contents of the 1.50 update from teh Japanese Playstation website. They are identical in components I believe.

It would be great if it did fix the backwards compatibility, as that is half the reason I'm getting a PS3. I have so many PS2 ones.

I added a funny picture for my profile name, checked out the output volume thing and I cant see anything else... stuff under the hood so to speak. Oh and I THINK Ps2 games look better I cannot really tell.. possibly there is a difference.

I havent checked anything else, but i do notice that my pointer speed is ALOT faster than before. I had it set to fast but i dont think it made any difference, but since the update its really quick.

When downloading something from the PS Store, if you press the circle button you'll receive a message saying "Do you want to cancel the download operation?" It's a small, insignificant change but I thought I'd let you guys know anyway.

I have tested the patch. It certainly and without any doubt DOES FIX the PS2 jaggies.

The two games (admittedly out of the four that I own) where the jaggies were most noticeable are Star Wars Battlefront 2 and LOTR : The Return of the King. I have tested the update with these two games and both are now fixed.

It is also of note that, upon the advice of a previous post in another thread, I purchased the Xploder PS2 HDTV player. This fixed the problem for Battlefront 2 but was not compatible with ROTK. The update fixes both games, therefore, the update is compatible with games that Xploder is not. I may also point out that having played the aforementioned games with and without Xploder over the past month has familiarized me with what the games look like with and without the jaggies. However, it didn't take an expert to see that something was very wrong with the affected games.

Finally, I tested to see if the update fixed the PS3 1080i problem or if it allows the PS3 to upscale DVD playback. It is unapparent if any change has been made to either DVD playback or PS3 scaling.

turned on the PS3 just now, it went to sign into the network automatically then BOOM! "system software update required" im downloading v1.50 now. i'll just wait until the US playstation website lists what the new stuff for this version is/are.

You hate updates??? Updates fix issues with the systems and allows Sony to add features that make the system perform better.

Even if you got a mod chip new games would require the new updates to play correctly.

If it really does fix up PS2 games nice and pretty...wow! That would make me very happy since some of them are unbearable on my TV right now.

Once I get a chance I'll have to hop on and get updated. Updates are fun! I think.

Well somehow that will be bypassed. Just like the PSP. Who knows maybe a Devhook method will come out for the PS3. You never know.

One can only hope. I'm not updating to 1.5 for that exact reason. Unfortunatel I had to update to 1.32 for the GTHD demo but now I sticking with this firmware until I hear news on an exploit.
