Posted this on the other EA thread... But anyway...

Hmmm, well lets see. They did cancel NBA Live 07, for rushing it and making a horrible basketball game. The sales for it on the 360 were horrible too. The game got horrible reviews (like a 4.5) and is a joke. EA's last hope for a good basketball title will be NBA Street Homecourt... And if they mess that up, than I'm done with them. But I just might have to try out a next gen SSX title. Love that game. But as of now, EA is a joke to me.

the only good games from EA are games from companies they "took over" like Westwood (C&C) and Maxis(Sims, SimCity)... but actual EA made games suck.

I totally agree, I suspect it will definetly make a few hairs on Kens back raise too. I'm sure their overall sales were higher though due to the PS3 and Wii being launched as well as all the other formats. Their a bit of a cartel now but seem to be doing things right apart from the endless sport sims.
I would agree on the point that if their PS3 game sales don't pick up it may affect what games they release on the PS3. Still as long as they only release the big hitters, leave the sports sims off it and most important they release the NFS series on it then everyone will be happy.

I just wish they took more time in letting their franchises come out with better and not rehashed version of yester year, heck I know from some people here they are some Madden fans that are sick of what they are doing with each release. Let the developers create the awesome games that made EA a powerhouse it was to begin with, period.

Bf2 was a great game, however, once it started getting heavily updated, and junk started breaking, and then EA decided to milk the series with a dozen 'mini-expansions', the game quickly went downhill.

Ea also didn't "bring hl2 to the table". HL2 was under development long before EA got publishing rights. Valve pumped millions into this game. Not EA. HL2 was under development when Valve's publisher was Vivendi/Sierra, whom Valve successfully sued and dropped. EA gave valve the best offer as a new publisher, so EA now publishes the franchise. Valve products are also sold over Steam, which EA is not involved with at all. Does EA press discs, shove them into a box, and send them to stores better than, say, Activision?

EA didn't make the latest CryENGINE, either. Crytek did, and I can't find anything suggesting EA actually bought this developer. At most, it appears they've gained exclusive rights to publish games using the engine, one of which is Crysis. Woo, go EA, I guess.

I think you give EA too much credit.

I know all that, but it's a publisher and developer where as I would class Valve and Crytek as Devs. I bet you wouldn't see HL2 on the 360/ PS3 for a lot longer if EA didn't step in, especially on the PS3 judging by Gabes comments. And I would also suspect Crysis may not appear on the 360 without their backing but I don't know the history behind the 360 version, just that it's been confirmed and is different to the PC version which will also be under the EA brand now.
I thought vehicles dropping on your head was part of the fun?? Not. As you said BF2 started great.

EA are not the only people responsible. It just seems like the ps3 launched too soon. With little to no quality games out in general. The only must haves will be coming at around the euro launch. That is, if they dont get delayed.
My games: Metal gear solid 4, Warhawk, Rock band, Resistance, Ridge racer 7, unreal tournament 3,disgaea 3, pixeljunk monsters, tekken dark ressurection, soul calibur 4, dragonball Z burst limit, super stardust HD, elder scrolls 4.

Well, EA, you disappoint me. So suck it up, make some halfway good games, and maybe you'll make some money.

Everybody hates on EA but Fight Night Round 3, NCAA 07 football and NFS Most Wanted are decent games.

The truth is $600 + tax =$642 here in NJ. $428 for a 360 premium. That difference translates into 4 games for 360 owners.

And don't forget, when the 360 came out the games didn't have to compete with HD-DVD. PS3 owners are buying Blu-Ray movies which competes for their gaming dollars.

EA spends a lot of money on marketing and licenses. Money they could spend on development instead. But their formula has worked so far with casuals who don't know there are better options out there. Last generation MS released a game called Links 2004, it pissed on Tiger Woods in every way shape and form but Tiger still outsold Links by a 4-1 margin. Same with 2K football. Amped Snowboarding vs SSX, PGR (or Forza or GT) vs Need for Speed. There are better options out there but for some reason casuals tend to buy EA games. I honestly think it because EA makes games so easy to win that it feeds into casual gamers fragile egos.

Perhaps its not EA deciding this? HL2 has sold 4 million copies thus far. Halo2 sold 8 million copies on a console with approx 1/4th the player-base of the PS2. GeOW already sold 3 million copies. Could be the potential gobs of cash they could earn by releasing a popular game on consoles? We should really try asking Doug Lombardi, and not Gabe. They've contacted another dev to do the ps3 port, while they work on the x360 themselves, as they did the xbox1 port.

And right, Crysis isn't coming to consoles according to what the developers said. They said we may see a game set in the Crysis universe hit consoles, aka: a spinoff. Perhaps Crytek, I don't know, wants to make money off something more than the PC?

I really dislike these schemes people come up with for independent developers that let EA publish their work. As if its a good thing if EA really does have the gall to force independent parties to do their bidding.

Do the 2K games sell as well as the EA sports titles?

Not even close. NBA Basketball is the closest the two come--but I think EA outsells them in pretty much every sport the two compete in.
