...which is actually pretty lame that the stats work that way. There is no way to compare players that only play team games to get their stats up and those who only play free-for-all games. I'd rather play FFA games than team based games, so my stats suck. But I'm one of those players who's not going to go play team based games, ones that I don't enjoy as much, just to artificially inflate my ranking.

Playing team games doesn't make you a better player, it just improves your stats in a way that is misleading at best. So I guess this gets back to the OPs question. Is he defining "better player" by skills or ranking, because they are completely separate in the way Resistance tracks these things. (at least as far as the win/loss goes.)

Change the button config so that L3 or R3 is melee(I use R3, with L1 being zoom). This way you have complete control over your character as you are running up to the enemy to hit him. Otherwise, with triangle you have to take your thumb off of the stick that controls your aim

good idea - I usually miss - hopefully i can aim and hit at the same time

If you are in a shoot out don't run straight at any enemies, you will get owned.
Try to circle around them or keep change directions.
Use the grenades when ever you have them grenade= instant kill.

My tips are to set your look sensitivity to 7 or 8 (I prefer eight), get your bluetooth mic connected, start doing some ranked team games and changing your squad to tango (that is what everyone with a mic uses, that way you don't have to press any buttons to talk), use rage mode when chimera and about to go into contact with humans, throw grenades at people's feet (this takes practice), and learn to master the tag for bullseye. The best way to master that is in single player, IMO. Staying in a group always helps though. And please don't be one of those annoying people that uses the Laark all the time. That weapon requires no skill whatsoever.

With regards to sensitivity, I would recommend experimenting with both higher and lower sensitivities in the single player campaign and unranked matches. I initially took my sensitivity higher but eventually worked back down to a sensitivity that is comfortable to me. Aiming is much easier/accurate at the lower sensitivities. It's a matter of player comfort which varies by individual. I agree with learning to use the Tag effectively but I would add to that in saying learn all of the weapons well, particularly the secondary fire of the weapons. Learn the maps including the weapons spawns as well.

I just started playing resistance and my problem is that I can always surprise someone and get the first shots but I can't aim worth **** so they just turn around and work me. I just got to keep practicing, which sucks because I don't get to play much.
I'm graduating from college in May and I have to get a job in the video game industry! It's the only way I can be happy working...

Anybody who has insights into the business side of gaming, advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Just PM me

haha, maybe you're right. But I still think that knowing that nobody is watching your back in a FFA game is a tougher situation than moving about in a group of coordinated teammates.

My post was in response to the comment that team games give you a better chance of winning, and therefore make you a better player. That is kind of messed up logic. Just because you're on the winning team doesn't mean that you're a good player! Heck, you could hide in the corner the whole time and still come out with a win on the record books! In a FFA game, you've got to earn that win. On the other hand, even great players who place 2nd in a 40 player deathmatch get marked with a loss. So the stats are skewed to favor team-game players. And to suggest that win/loss ratio is the way to measure how good a player is is silly because of this fact. Kill/death is much more appropriate.

I agree and I apoligize because my post might have seemed rude.
But you did word your post wrong.
As for me...I used to play more FFA games and I would say that I came in the top 3 every 4 outta 6 times I played. As of now Im playing more teamwork games.
I like the teamwork aspect, especially with a clan. Of course stats dont mean much to me.
But I would rather there were higher wins to loses, lol.

EDIT: Some tips for you all, my friends...

    M5A2 CARBINE
DESCRIPTION: The M5A2 Folsom Carbine is the standard issuse rifle of the US Army Rangers.
The Folsom is nicknamed "the paddle" for its wide wooden stock and ability to "spank" an enemy. The M5A2 uses the same .303 rounds as the British Rifle, No. 6 Mk 6. Press L1 to fire the underlsung M200 40mm Grenade Launcher. The M200 uses high-explosive grenades, which can immediately multiply the fire power available to an individual soldier.

TIPS: The Carbine is of course are standard weapon and what i've found is nice smooth steady rates of fire towards the head while straying works wonders against most players. The Carbine has prob. the best scope besides the fareye in terms of killing people. I've tested the scope out on bunches of maps like rooftops for example; If you stand on the farside of the roofs by the building borken in half with a lark on the bottom and a airvent; Well if your on the roof looking across the map in your carbine scope (and this really works well in team deathmatch) and shoot at the enem's you will indeed kill a few each time if not an assist but more than likely headshot. The 40mm attachment on the carbine gives it the extra levarage againt the LARRK in intense situations like that. The 40 mm is very deadly if shot correctly at the oppent and if you dont think you can hit an opponent dead on then just shoot it at the ground just before the enemy's feet to do MAX damage before finishing them off.

    ROSSMORE 236
DESCRIPTION: The British Army uses the Rossmore 236 Combat SHotgun for base defense and urban warfare. Known for its potent stopping power, it is espicially effective in close-quarters engagements. Since the Chimeran invasion, soldiers have found the shotgun very adept at dispatching Howlers. Press L1 to discharge both barrels. This method is less efficient than firing the barrels individually, but using it effectively can sometimes mean the difference between life and death.

TIPS: The ROSSMORE is probably the most efficient way to kill enemy's while ethier defending or in any close quarters combat. Using the R1 to fire numerous single barrel shots at an enemy will usually kill them in 2 to 3 shots. Now how and when to use it all depends on one, Reaction time and second timing. Just about any map you can use the ROSSMORE in close combat effectively so I'm just gonna use grimsby for example. When you got the ROSSMORE stay inside and do no sprint. That will give away your position of course and could hurt you. So stay inside the building walls and stalk your enemys. say ones in front of you and you kill him and someones shooting behind you well you have two options to get out of the situations as the victor. One you can turn around and double barrel him and kill him right there or go behind a box or door near by and wait for him to come by you and this is where the timing and reaction come into play. when the enemy moves towards you close enough (Your judgement) you pop out and double barrel the enemy killing him and surviving. The double barrel is most effective for pop out shots or jumping down on an enemy close up while if you have some distance apart you might want to shoot off a single barrel or two before the double barrel.

    L23 FAREYE
DESCRIPTION: The L23 Fareye is the weapon of choice for British Royal Marine Commando sniper teams. The rifle chambers a .303Mk 15 round with a mussle
velocity of nearly 3400ft/s. Click R3 to use the scope, and press the directional buttons Down and Up to zoom the scope in and out. Press the directional buttons left and right to quickly switch between pre-set magnification levels. As a secondary feature of the Fareye, you can hold L1 to focus concentration. This creates the sensation of slowing down time, thus eliminating all outside distractions.

TIPS: Well you won't have the L1 to slow anything down but when you hit L1 when your looking at an opposing enemy it quickly zooms you in closer for a better headshot. The Fareye works wonders in team games when defending or trying to stay out of grenade range as well as some free for all maps. One of the best tricks I've noticed on the Fareye is if your camping and you got your fareye out and someones ethier trying to snipe you or shoot you down you can throw up a auger shield and stick the barrel of your fareye out of the shield so you can't be hit but you can easily snipe your opponent.

    BULLSEYE
DESCRIPTION: The bullseye is the Chimeran main battle rifle. It has a rapid cyclic rate and a high damage capability. Press L1 to fire a homing tag. Once a foe is marked, the tag draws the bullseye's primary fire. Skillful placement of the tag allows you to place aentire magazines of ammunition on a target from the safety of cover.

TIPS: The bulleye is probably the best all-around weapon online. It has the highest ammunition capacity along with the fastest rate of fire and has a few tricks up its sleeve like the tag. A lot of players complain how its hard to tag moving opponents in combat well the best way I came up with in tagging players is shoot a few shots off with R1 and then Hit L1 and mix a tag in thier and it usually gets them first try and you continue to fire away and get the easy kill. Their is also a bullseye trap you can also do by setting a tag and shooting 25 shots out and the bullets will hover around the tag until a enemy runs through it or you tag it to an enemy which is very lethal btw. It takes a little practice but once you get that timing down there nothing stopping you. Another good way to kill enemys is to jump off air vents when an opponent approaches you and shoot a few shots off and throw a tag in thier and then just hold the fire button until they perish. The air vents make it harder for the enemy to hit you if you sprint off them.
ADDED TIP: If you're stuck fighting two people at once, tag one but point your gun at the other; when the tagged enemy dies your shots will already be heading towards the other guy. -FROM CAPN ASH

    AUGER
DESCRIPTION: The Auger rifle fires blasts of transient radiation that tunnels through solid matter. The blasts increase in power with each object they pass through. Although the Auger has a relatively small ammunition capacity, the fact that it ignores cover means every blast is potentially lethal. Press L1 to deploy a Force Barrier. This barrier alters the auger's energy blast to create a shield that is impervious to all weapon-fire except that from the Auger. Enemies will incur damage if they touch the barrier.

TIPS: The Auger works best of course with the Chimera. Using your Rage can help you tremendously in conversion and team games. When you got and enemy taking cover behind a wall or in a room you can easily auger them while they stand still and die expecting nothing. Works well in the mall and other various maps. But you can also use it to stop reactors from caping for the opposing team as well as recaping for the opposing team if you stay at a safe distance and shoot your auger rounds towards the reactor. It fustrates your enemy alot. Learning how to use your auger shield while in combat is very helpful in a lot of situations like thames when enemies grab the 40mm and launch it at you thinking your and easy kill, well you can change the outcome by putting up a few auger shields to deflect that and take the lead in killing your opponent, though grenades can go through it. But its really nice to shoot through your shield first to amplify your power on each shot towards the enemy. I see a lot of players run around shooting the auger but never put up a shield which hurts them in the end. The auger bullet as far as I know has no range in its ability to go through walls and kill any target. So fire away and keep that shield up.

    ARC CHARGER
DESCRIPTION: The Arc Charger fires a blast of energy that briefly clings to organic tiissue, while additional blasts increase the intensity of the energy. Press R1 to Trigger the energy to arc nearby targets. Upon striking additional targets, press L1 to arc the energy again. The energy's power increases with each successive arc, as does its ability to strike new targets. With the proper timing, you can attack many targets at once. The Arc Charger is particularly devastating against multiple enemies where it can develop maximum intensity.

TIPS: When you come to an opponent Shoot them once with R1 then simultaneously hit them again 2 more times with the L1 trigger and your opponent and any near by enemies will die. By hitting them with the single arc puts the nuclear tag on them amplifying any additional arc blasts. The purpose of the Tri-Blast on the arc charger is to arc through the enemy and any enemy behind or beside him. The arc charger is also HIGHLY effective on reactors potentially taking a whole reactor in three blasts...Also If you blast the reactor using the arc charger, any enemy's behind it even if you cant see them will die or any enemy near by the reactor. It's better to use the tri-Blast on the reactor when doing this.

    L209 LAARK
Description: The L209 LAARK (Light Anti-Armor Rocket) was originally designed for use against Russian armored divisions. Since the Chimeran invasion, though, it has been successful against the stalker and other heavy vehicles. Once fired, LAARK Rockets are capable of user=guided maneuverability. Hold down L1 to slow down the rocket and reorient it in flight. Aiming the recticle at any desired target steers the rocket in the designated direction. The higher the pressure on L1, the slower the rocket goes. Hold down R1 after firing to release auto-guided sub unitions.

TIPS: When using the LAARK you always want to hold the R1 button down no matter what until the rocket has exploded, becuase when you do that it can cause guided sub unitions to come out even after the explosion and kill the enemy if they survived. Aslo as stated in the description If you in a jam you can shoot your LAARK out and hit L1 in mid flight causing it to stop now while holding L1 tap R1 repeatidly when a enemy is nearby and guided sub unitions will come out and kill anyone when near, then once you used your guided missles WHAM!!! You can realease L1 in any direction you please to realease you rocket and get one last kill(s) in. Remember now, In close combat with the laark, aim for the floor behind them, so the blast radius will kill them easily but not damage your health too much.

    L11-2 Dragon
DESCRIPTION: The L11-2 Dragon's ability to numerous targets simultaneously with a single sweep overshadows its short range. Press L1 to realease an atomized chemical agent that is catalyzed to produce a stream of caustic vapor. Hold L1 to create a cloud of uncatalyzed vapor, and realease L1 to Catalyze and launch the cloud. This is useful for area-denial, as the cloud remains deadly until its chemical reaction is completely exhausted.

TIPS: When is the best time to use this weapon you ask, well in my opinion it works VERY well in situaions were your in tight spaces or pin down your enemy in a location. Getting used to it is the tricky part and your best bet is when your in a pickle or got someone on the run charge it up with L1 and realease it when the enemy is entering a door or is somewhere contain in someway. Its also very useful to contain or seal off an area you want protected for instance Bus yard; You can charge up the Dragon to 60 and realease it at the top of the garage by the doorway and of course your inside that room with the sniper rifle. You got some extra time not to worry about any intruders while your flame is up granted grenades but you just have to work on avoiding those and you can get some quick headshots with your sniper rifle. It also works extremely well in meltdown to seal off entrances to your reactor and by you enough time from the enemy to capture/recapture or regroup and get back together.
ADDED TIP: If you create an auger shield then quickly launch a vapor cloud(dragon's secondary fire) onto the shield , you can make a floating wall of fire , which is especially helpful for blocking entrances. -FROM DarkShadow703
ADDED TIP: Its good when your above your opponent aiming down. use powered up alternate fire and It ends up raining down pools of fire, but not together like it normally would, and if they touch any of them before or after the fact, they are in essence dead. -FROM Pookums
ADDED TIP: When you're charging your alternate fire and you see no enemies in your range and you dont wanna use your alternate fire...simple press triangle (melee button) and lay off the L1 key and the dragon chemical units will go back to its original place.. -FROM PanzerAce

    FRAG GRENADE
DESCRIPTION: The No 22 Fragmentation Grenade is a standard issue, anti-personnel munition used throughout the British armed forces. The grenade has an exposed fuse that releases irritating smoke prior to detonation. Although not hazardous in the quantities produced, it does discourage a target from picking up and throwing back the grenade. The Fragmentation Grenade is ideal for assaulting entrenched enemy positions or attacking around corners.

TIPS: One thing I don't know if people realize or not but the higher your look speed the better you can throw frags. Of course their is a downside to everything and that is weapon accuracy. So you might want to even out how fast or slow you want your grenade speed to your weapon accuracy. You can easily line drive and direct hit any enemy with a high look speed vs. a lower one where you could not do. Also spiking the frags at the floor or anticipating where hes gonna come out to try and get you will help you better place your grenade for the kill. doorways/entrances etc.... are good ways to get frag kills. Genades are also the only exception that can go through an auger shield.

    AIR-FUEL GRENADE
DESCIRPTION: The No 42 Air-Fuel Grenade is used to combat Chimera in the tight spaces commonly found in urban conflicts. A thrown grenade adheres to most surfaces and immediately releases a cloud of flamable vapor. Once deployed, the cloud ignites and creates a massive explosion. The resulting heat and pressure wave causes vast injuries to anything caught in the blast. With their reliance on external cooling systems, Chimera are especially susceptible to this kind of damage.

TIPS: Basically the same tips as the Frag Grenade above this except for the special feature the Air-Fuel has which is, when you go to throw a Air-Fuel hit O and then hold O down and do not release it. While you have O held down your Air-Fuel gas will not ignite but expand and when you decide to release it or 30 seconds pass, it will ignite on your command.

I found that on another site. I dont take credit in doing it.
I actually learned a bit about the arc charger and dragon from that post.
and thank god for that because I sucked with those two guns, lol.
Till next time! Peace. Rep would be appreciated...too me a long time to find that post. lol.

    Best tip of all:

Get a sniper, hide far away and start camping.

(This will give me some negative rep, eh?)

    haha, that squirrel avatar rocks!

For what its worth, I don't see any problem with sniper-campers. You're not going to win the match that way (most likely), and thats pretty much how you have to use that weapon. Its not like you're going to run into the middle of a firefight with the sniper rifle drawn. However, if you are going to be a sniper, for goodness sakes, move around. You might be able to pick me off once with that technique, but after I respawn, I'm comming for you. 9 times out of 10 the sniper is still perched in his own little hole or window. A sniper is the easiest mele+stealth kill around.

Hey man, using the sniper rifle does take some skill. But there are some people that are just so annoying with it, particularly those that use glitches. I found one yesterday using a glitch and got him with the auger.. felt so nice when I did that. Later I used the sniper a lot and got some kills with it, still trying to get my 100 kills with that. I think I'm only about 50 now though.

Honestly, Laark users are more annoying to me. There was one person in particular that was camping by the last node that his team was holding in meltdown. I got killed 3 or 4 times by him before he finally ran out of his Laark ammo (must have known the spawn points for Laark ammo) and I was able to get him. At least with sniper you have to be a good aim. Laark you can just point in the general direction and take someone out, there's really no way to keep from being hit unless they're just a horrible aim. When someone has a sniper rifle you can at least zig-zag and jump to make yourself a harder target.
