i believe there is a good thread on this...do a search... however if you are 0-33 stop playing free-for-all games and stick with team-based games(for both official and unofficial) until you get better. team-based games are alot of fun.

    Killzone 2 l Battlefield: BC l BuzzQuiz l Pacific Rift l Dead Space l MGS4 l COD4 l Burnout l Motorstorm l R&CF l Folklore l Uncharted

bsaically just keep working at it

avoid free for all as eddie said although free for all in unofficial is fun as well and you will slowly find yourself getting better

team based if you have a mic it will be a lot of fun

if you dont then pick one up

i would also advise joining a clan as they can be very helpful in getting a player started and give you a lot of pointers specifically on your game that we cant since we dont know how you play

I was wondering how I would communicate with people. :/
I heard any bluetooth headsets are the way to go.
Seems kind of weird like how would you connect and get noticed by the system and everything.
I bought one with my Verizon Razr would that work?

yes, that should work fine. Just read the manual for it on how you "pair" it, and go to the "register a device" screen under "accessories" on your PS3
Setup of a college gamer short on cash:
20GB PS3 (with 160GB HDD), Acer 22" Monitor, Logitech Z-2300 speakers with harmon/kardon rear speakers connected to a Creative X-fi 5.1 card, Logitech Driving Force GT Racing Wheel, and a ton of racing games with a few FPSes sprinkled in.

    1) start up some OFFLINE multiplayer sessions by yourself and learn the maps backwards and forwards, every nook and cranny. Take your time and explore, memorize weapon spawn locations, etc.

    2) practice practice practice

    3) Don't worry about your win/loss ratio. Who cares? Well, I guess some people do, but I don't give a damn. Just have fun.

your headset should work just fine

make sure it is authorized on both resistance using the options

and using the audio options for the ps3

Biggest thing I do is think out the situation I am in always.

If it's close quarters, pick up a shotgun or something else like that. If it's very open, try to find a fareye and a nice little sniping spot.

Keep an eye on your radar, if human.

Stay in rage mode as much as possible when Chimera.

When you start to overheat as chimera, try to avoid battle as much as possible, then when you have full health and no heat, turn rage mode back on and mess some people up.

I was really sucking at this game at first, too.

I think it has to do with the fact that I haven't played an FPS on a PS2 controller in a long time. So, it didn't feel right at first. It just took a ton of time getting everything down in muscle memory.

BTW, if the controller layout feels awkward to you, change it. I changed some of my buttons around to more resemble Halo controls and now I'm doing pretty well.

If you're the Chimera, always use rage mode if you're about to battle someone. The Bullseye is your best friend and the tagging feature is killer.

I disagree. I love nothing more than running around and taking out an entire team that is just standing there trying to shoot at my team that is on the other side of the map

Biggest thing is to learn the maps, and play team games. I was 0-twentysomthing untill I started playing team games (really don't care for deathmatches). I started playing alot of cap-the-flag on Summerset with a mic and with that got alot better.

    1. learn the maps
    2. learn when to use different weapons
    3. HAVE FUN

    1. Play through the single player campaign. 2. Get good with the Shotty and Sniper rifle. 3. Use more nades. 4. Learn the multiplayer maps....create your own custom games to learn individual maps 5. Don't get killed.
"Banana Fish, Banana Fish, we read you that's a one niner niner. Mission Accomplished. Congratulations. Now, why don't'cha swim back into the kitchen and get these patatoes peeled already?!?"
The console doesn't make the game. The console only plays the game.

set your sensitivity (under controls in the multiplayer menu) to something like 7. that will enable you to turn around faster, but if you're not a good aim to begin with- that means with the aim assist on (you have it on right?) then i would not suggest it.

always run. or go into rage mode.

sometimes, when you know you're not going to make it, throw a grenade at the last second, then maybe it will explode as your enemy walks over your dead body.

aim for the head....which is hard, but headshots are good.

oh, and your score is probably due to all the free-for all games you play. if your teams wins a game in a team-based game, then that counts as a win for you. don't be discouraged by that.

otherwise, you just have to have good fingers. lock onto an enemy, keep the reticule red, and glide slowly, or twitch slighty with the analog sticks.

One thing you have to be is fast. your reflexes have to be good. if you see an enemy, your reticule has to be ON HIM immediately.
finally, know what weapons work for you.
Augers and shotguns work only sometimes. most other times, i don't switch to them. the dragon isn't good, generally. the bullseye is probably my favorite.

use the map/see through wall thing to your advantage. when im a human, most of the time, my eyes are on the map looking to triangles, then my reflexes kick in, get prepared to SURPRISE them, then keep my aim on him.
    then.....he's dead.

also, most of the time, when you surprise someone, which is a good technique i just mentioned before, you will usually get into a "merry-go-round" type circle, where you just circle eachother, until the other dies. your first aim at him has to be good- (you have to stay one him)- and you have to PREDICT WHERE HE IS GOING TO MOVE. and remember to always reload after each firefight or kill, otherwise, when you get into another one, then you'll be stuck reloading, when the other guy is shooting away your health. for this type of encounter, you have to be good at slowly turning the analog stick, to glide the reticule across the screen- in an arc that resembles the path of your enemy.

    - for something like this, i stress the ammo and the aiming thing, because in situations like those, you WILL win if you keep on him, and have a full round of ammo. it takes about (3/4s?) of your cartridge to kill a guy.
i can't tell you how many times i've just out-aimed (or out "kept" my reticule on) someone and killed them, usually escaping with less than one bar left of my health.

predicting where the guy is going to move, or how he is going to shoot is key also. knowing that a guy will duck for cover, or if it looks like he will just shoot a rocket launcher even if you're two feet in front of him helps. - this mostly just comes from experience though.

also know that melee hits do alot of damage. two of them kills someone. so if your in close quarters, even though its hard to aim one at a guy, go in for it. a hit to the back is an instant kill- and a stealth kill.

be aware of the weapons the people have. you don't want to go up against people with certain guns, when all you have is the carbine. -come from experience.

oh, another good thing to get some easy kills is to look for a duel between two people, then just kill off the winner. I can get both people most of the time....because i have skill....but i do find myself jumping into firefights, and thinking- this guy will have depleted health- KILL HIM!
lol, but really, its a good tactic for points.

....hello? is anyone noticing this? lol, i keep editing it, but no one answers!

wow thats alot of writing^^ im glad im good so i dont have to read it lol. (jokes) I would say keep your crosshair on ur enemy at all times.. try to find the wheer the laarks are, ans most importantly learn how to use nades effectively, i have like 200 nade kils and im getting really good at it... i can estimate where the enemy will go and throw it right on them, also throw one right when ur about to die, gets me like 3 kills a round, 46 wins out of 110 (deathmatch only)

He was asking for real... no need to post like that!

I would say always keep moving... Dont worry about dying thats going to happen, just always stay on offense and do not duck and cover >> kill >>> duck anc cover.... if you are the aggressor it is great!

Just like a fight IRL, if get the first punch you win lik 90% of the time!

Would I would do is get familiar with the controls in a breach or team deathmatch game. Get in a big one. Just keep joining these because they put a lot of stress on you. Plus use this time get familiar with all the weapons and stuff. Once you get familiar with the weapons you will start winning games.

Those are all awesome tips, I just wanted to add to this one.

Change the button config so that L3 or R3 is melee(I use R3, with L1 being zoom). This way you have complete control over your character as you are running up to the enemy to hit him. Otherwise, with triangle you have to take your thumb off of the stick that controls your aim

    play team games, seriously...

the chances to win a free for all game are 39 to 1... while a team based game gives you a 50% chance of winning.
