This is almost a carbon copy of PS2/DVD. Meaning on how the PS2 boosted DVD sales big time. Seems PS3 is doing that for Bluray as well.

Even I'm surprised by how well Blu-Ray is doing at the moment.

The format war... is almost over.

Universal is the last piece in the puzzle.

I think HD-DVD will try to stick out until after the holiday season. They're going to try to make some turn on their investments.

This format war was a lie to begin with though. BluRay had everyone lined up form the get-go. Universal needs to stop smoking that crackpipe.

I remember some quotes from the Toshiba/HD DVD camp bigwigs saying something like the PS3 will not have that much of an effect on Blu-ray sales. Because they said most people who would buy the PS3 are just gamers and are only interested in games

Don't forget the Porn industry, alone, should count for the value of 3 major hollywood studios. If Sony/Blu-Ray Consortium extends a helping hand to the XXX industry then I'll agree that it's lights out time for HD-DVD.

i don't know if i agree with this statement. i think that the importance of the porn industry is overblown. first of all, seeing porn in high def may make it less desirable. afterall, there is substantial airbrushing going on, increasing the resolution is moving in the opposite direction. seeing all the pornstar bemishes and scars from surgery doesn't sound too appealing.

Seeing a 'sticky face' in HD doesn't sound to appealing either.

I'm not going to hint that you're wrong.

I'm not going to suggest it either.

I'm going to flat out tell you you're so completely and utterly wrong.

If you're referring to the past, and how the adult film industry shaped the VHS/BETA saga - then consider this.

Back then - the porn industry had no other real way of mass distriuting it's wares. It was a choiceof VHS or BETA. Now you have DVD, VHS, PPV and of course.....

    THE INTERNET!

The porn industry means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING when it comes to deciding the format war. It is so widely available in many other formats that the HD versions will have no impact on the war which HD DVD is already losing and will not win.

I'd like to re-itterate once more.

    You're completely wrong.

WELL THAN YOU DON'T KNOW THE PERCENTAGE OF PROFIT THAT COMES FROM PORN THAN. WHERE A MAJOR STUDIO MAKES SAY 10.00 ON EVERY 20.00 DVD SOLD, THE PORN INDUSTRY MAKES 18.00 TO 19.00 ON EVERY 20.00 DVD SOLD. THATS A HUGE PROFIT!! IF BLU-RAY DOES GET THAT SUPPORT AS IMPERFECT AS IT WILL LOOK NOW, (AND TRUST ME I DO LUV SOME PORN SO I DON'T KNOW IF I WANT TO SEE ALL THE IMPERFECTION OF THE LADIES SINCE THATS ALL I WATCH IT FOR) BLU-RAY WILL BE SO VICTORIOUS.

I wouldn't say the porn industry has a big impact that much on home video like it did a few years ago. A lot get their porn off the net now, including movies. But porn will support who ever is leading the market, they always have.

YES more good news, now we just need Universal and Star Wars.
Can't wait to get a flat panel. I just might have to splurge when GT5 comes out. I can't just not be able to play when I'm moving between work and school.

Spiderman 1 and 2 are due out for blu-ray sometime soon, they are sony owned so they obviously stay exclusive, big jumps will be when those come out and when pirates 1 and 2 and pixars cars, those will all give a very big jump in sales.

much thanks to thorzilla for the sig/avatar

Well, this affects me none what-so-ever, except for the fact that it's a step in the right direction.

Its not going to play a major part in the format war when you consider that most porn is found and bought on the interweb. Becides, porn is already on blu-ray.
