PS Online Chat Room Function to come soon?

Yesterday I was at my local Gamestop playing Motorstorm on the PS3 kosisk when I stumbled upon a Chat Room finction in the XMB under the Friends tab I went home to find out my PS3 didnt have this option and it made me curious if the version at Gamestop might have a better FW or have a glimpse of the future updates sorry if its already been posted woops wrong board please move mods

That's interesting... perhaps it is newer... or perhaps it's much older as it's a demo kiosk and could be old. I'm currious to find out. The March update has me excited to see what they're going to do.

Chat is a great feature, I use it on the 360 all the time. They allow you to chat with people while you are playing games and even if you are playing completely different games. Hopefully Sony will do the same with their chat--I wonder if that will be possible without a unified system though. I mean, cross game invites aren't even possible without it so I doubt cross game chat will be.

Chat Room sounds like an good thing for PSN.. would be cool if march update has this one ..too lol

Wait a second; I don't think this is a new feature. I used it 3 weeks ago. Hook up a bluetooth headset and invite a friend to chat; just like a phone call. I don't remember being able to do anything else on the PS3 while in chat mode.

Are we talking about (AOL) type chat rooms or just inviting another person to chat? I wouldn't be surprised if they implemented an online discussion board and chat room to interface with a Playstation Lifestyle page. It would give you a way to meet new friends and discuss games outside of game lobbies and boards like this one. It would also give the PSN a sense of community and identity. The online aspect of gaming requires that i be able to meet, stay in touch, and talk about the games I'm playing. I'm looking forward to the announcements next week to get a better idea of whether or not they are going to accomplish that goal.

I am guessing that it is the chat feature that we have always had. Nothing new.

we only have voice chatting at the moment but i dont think we have the text chatting. idk i may be wrong.

In the menu screen it clearly states chat room, that has never been there before, so I believe the guy.

I'm still thinking it's the mic/camera chat thing that everyone has now...what would be different about it?

exactly we already have a mic/cam chats, which can go up to six ppl. i think that was just a concept on sony's part, but by march everything will be cleared up

i have been seriously thinking that this would be such a good idea if it was an actual chat room that you can get into via text or voice. It has been extremely hard for me to find people to play with or people to just talk to. This way itll make things alot eaiser if you are bored with the games you have.
