In a world where more than half of marriages end in divorce, my confidence in that statement isn't exactly solid.

I have never known a couple that was divorced in my life and neither have any relative/friend ever went through it. Divorce seems to be more prevalent in western part of the world as far as I have noticed. Can think of several reasons explaining this

It's simply because marriage is viewed differently in areas of the world, and things have become rather progressive in regards to it in the west. Increasingly it's been becoming redundant and viewed more as a simple legal process rather then a staple of the relationship itself. It started its drop when women in western society gained the freedoms and confidence to leave their husbands, and since society's view of it has relaxed slowly.

Your experiences aren't statistics. But yes, Western society is retarded.

While I think there’s some truth to that, generally, I’ve come to realize with my own anecdotal evidence that divorce would be more prevalent in the eastern cultures if society worked differently there. It’s very different to divorce over there as people depend on others more, not to mention, women have the perception of having lesser rights (even if the rights are present legally) as they aren’t as educated as males and just don’t know any better and well, in generally it’s just more difficult for women to get out of a marriage. Men included, as you’re marrying two families, not just two people.

Women don’t like to remarry; also men don’t marry women that were married before. Things are just different over there. I think if the society was different, there’d be less difference in divorce rates.

In other words, while I’ve seen less divorce rates growing up in Pakistan as opposed to here, I’ve seen much more happy couples here that “are” married than the ones that have been married for “decades” in Pakistan. Although, in general, I have seen families to be a lot more happy there than over here, both individually and with one another…especially with one another. I think there’s a slight edge in individual happiness over here as well but more difficult to achieve that across the board. I don’t even know why I’m using the word “individual” because happiness and individual do not go together lol, for the most part.

So why I somewhat agree with both of you is because yes, there are some disadvantages that come from having almost complete freedom in marrying without any promises or expectations where sometimes no family input is involved but at the same time, I’ve seen different results in both countries and other than families here deviating from the norm, I don’t see the marriage system being better or worse in either cultures…just different.

    Ok, last post off-topic lol.

Going through a divorce right now. Feeling a lot better that I did get it finally...I know life will be great later on due to it...being that she was batshit crazy....but I still miss her. It's kinda like an old dog who has been abused and beaten daily, but at the end of the day it still lays down with it's master at night because that's the only love it's known. For now I think I'll just drink heavily and see how things pan out.
