I've had it for around two months and it's starting to crap out on me. While playing Need for Speed Underground 2, the game periodically freezes. And today when I went to play ESPN NFL 2k5, it locked up while in the game menu and now I can't even get it to boot up and go into it's dashboard menu sytem, or even show the picture.
Luckily I bought the extended warranty from Best Buy so I can take it back and get it replaced. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Yes. I love warranties. I purchase them on almost all devices I can.
I even went to the extreme and paid $3 for warranties on my Halo 2 posters that I bought from EB.

I had a 100 dollar watch that I brought to the Electronics section at Target (stupid idea), for a simple battery replacement, and they broke my watch, and ignored the fact I had a warranty. Those bastards...

why would they ignor the fact that you had a warranty, you could sew them, is they're warranty forever or a certain amount of time, cause lots of stuff have only like 3 months warranty.

12-07-2004 #10All my discs are in good condition. No major scratches that would cause the game not to run or to freeze.

lol.. yea check the lens and all... I need to do that to my ps2... cause thats what was happening to nfs underground
and now San Andreas won't load... So i'm gonna clean the lens... altho its burned... that might be the problem but i havn't cleaned the lens since i got it
one question... What do you need to clean the lens?? Any speacial formula or just T-Shirt and some water or spit??"This life is not real. I conquered the world and it did not bring me satisfaction." -Muhammad Ali

Try the T-shirt, water and spit method, and then come back to us when you find that you've ruined it.
There's a special kit that you can use to clean the lens. There's also a CD you can buy that has fiber brushes on the disc, so when it reads the certain track with the 2 brushes in that area, it will completely clean your laser lens
Is your PS2 modded? Cuz you or someone else may have done a crappy job with it. And if you're playing burned games on an un-modded PS2, then I pity you...

12-07-2004 #16why? i've never tried playing a burned game with my PS2 cause it doesnt have a MOD chip, but what WILL happen if u try it....will it just not read the game or will it screw up the PS2?And if you're playing burned games on an un-modded PS2, then I pity you...

-

Because you can't play burned games without a MOD chip
And if you try, a new screen comes up that tells you to insert a PS2 or PS1 format disc. Modding the PS2 allows for playing burned game back-ups, and imported Japanese games/DVDs by bypassing the region coding. Meh...

so basically nothing bad will happen to the PS2, right?

-
12-07-2004 #19
Nothing will happen at all, other than the warning screen that comes up on the PS2, which means nothing.

I have a mod chip... All the games that I got are burned... thats why I ended up with 2 NFS Underground 2.... haha
anyway... damit PBM.... i was about to try that... but i decided not to since I know you now... how much does the kit or the disk cost?? I need the cheaper one"This life is not real. I conquered the world and it did not bring me satisfaction." -Muhammad Ali

They really don't cost all that much. They range from 4 to 20 bucks. I think I got mine for 10 bucks and I've been using it for YEARS =) You're supposed to clean the disc every 10 hours of game or music playing (that's what is recommended anyway).
Here's a few different CD lens cleaners out there: CD Lens Cleaners
My PS2 stopped reading DVDs and PS2 games and I was pissed. It took a few times for it to read the disc, but then the cleaning went to work and it was like new again
I should have been using the cleaner from the beginning...
