I'm asking this for one reason I looked at the sells numbers from the NPD and they look bad.
However, it doesn't really make me feel the doom and gloom. I guess it's like well they are Sony the start slow and pwn in the end.
Yea yea I'm a fanboy blind sheep etc etc... but I'm only like that because they have done it before 2x already.
When the games come and they are coming we all know that. It will be the the same as spotting a retarded kid 15pts in a game of 21
Discuss.... Am I a blind fanboy or do you guys think similarly?

They are doing better than the 360 did last year. I don't think there is any reason for doom and gloom yet.
They still have to release the console in Europe too. 360 sales aren't that good in Europe if you exclude the U.K. so the PS3 has a good chance of getting a stronghold there.
With that said, Sony need more and better games plus a price drop for it to really succeed as a game console.

first of all, why should you be worried aout sales number? all you should be worried about are the games, its not like sony is paying your household fees

If I didn't own a PS3, I'd probably feel bad, because I didn't have the awesome PS3 experience. But ever since I bought a PS3, the doom/gloom doesn't really phase me, since I'm really enjoying my PS3 and play it more than anything else.

i never look at sales figures, it doesn't concern me as a consumer.

wel; u have to w8 until the europe launch...w8 a month longer then we can compair the real sales statics globally. By then the continents won't feel like they are the only one owning a PS3. Sony's objective for now is the launch and and ensuring they can supply enough. THe marketing machine for International commercials will by then work I'm sure of that.
The only problem is the price tag and they know that.....so I expect a price drop within 6 months when they will use the smaller chip in the PS3. I know the have the big chips to...what will they do with it....other SONY stuff maybe??
What I'm worried about are there enough games available this year to mee the demand of this generation game players. I am disappointed with Genji it's some "screwed up game plastered and cramped onto a cd ship quick game"

I think it sell pretty well considering that the PS3 only has 3 AAA titles out at the moment and with it high price.
-
03-16-2007 #9
Well this time last year I'm pretty sure the 360 was in worse shape and keep in mind that they already had launched in europe. When ps3 launches there, expect about a 700,000-1mil inc. in worldwide sales.
Realistically you wont see a big spike in sales till around october or november when all the good games come out. I'm willing to bet killzone will be a system seller even though the xbots and media hate it now.

The PAL countries will take the 1 point something mill PS3 sold, up to 3 mill sold on launch day probably. Consoles only sell when their are games that people wanna play. There are only a few titles out right now that are credible at selling consoles, so when 07 is done, the gap will decrease.
Then you have your hardcore fanboys that won't buy a console until their game comes out. You have your FF, Socom, and so on fanboys that go crazy for these titles.
Just let the PS3 get it first full year in. Sony did miss the holiday season, by not meeting demand, but in 2007 they will have plenty in stock for this holiday season.

Not worried. Ps3 sales will do just fine!
A little story sort of about psp.
So I was at Circuit City Earlier showing it off to my mum. then two guys walk by and say "don't buy it" I was close to going tell them "My Cash didn't stop your mom. Did it?" haha. But then I was like. no. they are bigger than me.

1) Its still to early
2) Blu-ray
3) its ppl who didn't buy a PS3 lose not yours
4) The PS2 will only let the PS3 take it crown
bottom line if PS3 don't rule the market, PS2 will continue to do it until it does

The only thing that makes me worried if the sales slump continues through months that have good/great games , then I will worry because that could lead to 3rd party support failure

ps3 sales will lower once blu-ray becomes the standard, i can't wait to get my ps3 cause the high price probably means less 8 year olds play.
also it just released in europe where as the x360 has been europe, asia, and North america for over a year.

I am not worried, because the sale of the PS2 alone will make the PS3 a more viable option to consumers once the PS3 starts dropping in price. The PS2 is doing awesome in sales and once more games come out for the PS3... the must have games that the PS2 has... then the PS3 will pick up.

Low console sales should to a certain extent worry the average consumer and buyer of the console.
If the console sales are low, devs will abandon the platform.
It's way too early to speculate though.

I, quite honestly don't know why you are worried... if anything SONY should be worried, your not making(losing) money, SONY is.

The following chart should calm your fears. It tallies the 360 from months 4-12 after launch in the U.S. The numbers are cumulative so you have to subtract each consecutive month to get the numbers sold in that month. Confused? Well I did the math and it looks like the 360 sold a little less than 100,000 for each month after launch until the big holiday season.
The ps3 sold 127,000 so its actually outselling what the x360 sold this time last year:

First of all I believe the Xbox 360 sold somewhere between 200,000-250,000 xbox 360's for February. Second of all the Xbox 360 was still supply constrained in February unlike the PS3 which for the most part can be easily found in retail stores and online. And I forget the name but the store with the most PS3 preorders recently said that they have ALOT of unfilled preorders, which should not be the case in "Sony Land".

Not really worried. Way too early. Here are some words that I agree with from NPD analyst Anita Frazier:
"Frazier also cautioned that despite the slow sales for PS3 right now, it's way too early to make any judgment on the console race. "I stick with what I've said for a few months now - we won't know how the console race will turn out for months to come. Remember that the first few months of PS2 sales were relatively slow, and we know what happened with that platform. I think we will need to weigh this question at the end of 2007 - only then will we really know how all the new content and features will ultimately affect sales of the hardware," she concluded."

I could care less. I have a ps3. I have all the games i want. Im excited for home and other games coming out towards the end of the year. Really the sales dont mean **** about the actual system. The price is just a little higher than people want to spend. But I hate these kind of threads because everyone is so worried. Well dont be. Sony is Sony. It'll be fine
