The latest Nintendo Revolution rumor to hit the web is a doozie… “Nintendo may be aiming for a $99 launch price.” Yeah, it’s a dirty rumor, but could it be done? Doing so would put the Revolution in a league of its own, practically excusing it from the next-gen battle—it simply wouldn’t be competing with the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 if it were wearing a $99 price tag.
We’re likely going to see a lot of these rumors popping up in the coming months. Some suggest that rumors like this might be motivated by a desire to discourage prospective Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 buyers. Needless to say, we should take this rumor—and the ones to follow—with a grain of salt.
Update: it’s also important to remember that Nintendo doesn’t sell its consoles at a loss. If a $99 Revolution is a real possibility, we can expect the system to be only a fraction as powerful as the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

Nintendo sets Revolution launch price at $99?

If Revolution turns out to be 99$ I'll be one of the first to slap my preorder down.

Jeez, Nintendo wouldn't shoot themselves in the foot like that. Now more than ever they have breathing room to launch a highly lucrative system. I bet they'd launch at 200 and get a great reception.

Yeh, if that was a typo an said $199, i'd probably believe it more
It would be great if they managed to do this though, if they did they would be guaranteed a space in most gamers homes, but even then, $199 will still get them in most peoples homes
I'll be getting a Revolution anyway sometime when it comes out, they really have got my attention this time round, thats for sure

No, really, i don't. You're just imagining this.

I will buy the Nintendo Revolution if it $99 at launch.

Honestly though, Nintendo did not make the best system they could have. It has been shown to be a slightly less powerful system, and maybe that is because they used middle-grade parts and kept the cost down. $99 would be the best price for a new system. Think about it, you could buy the system and two games and still be under the price of the other systems with no games included. Nintendo could possibly do this and try to get a massive install base in order to get developers to make games for their system.

Gtecartman your slightly wrong. Nintendo couldn't have made a better system, why? Well, Nintendo made exactly what they were trying for. They didn't go for a more powerful system, they went for something new. The Revolution is cheap, with graphics almost the same as the xbox 360, on a regular TV, with new, innovative things. The controller, if it works out as planned, will attract a whole new type of gaming community. People that have never played games before, or those who got out of it, are suppose to start gaming, that is what Nintendo wants.
I honestly think it will work. Nintendo Revolution, here I come. lol.

Wow if it's $99 that would really be different. I don't care if it's $99 or $299 I wil lstill get it. I can't wait for it and if the price tag is that low it's just one more good thing about it.

Seriously, I see something like a 200 - 250 launch price. They will scale down to the $150 within a year or two and really mop up on the value market.
It's kinda making that Xbox Core system look like a real blunder for MS. Considering that MS would have to somehow compete with Nintendo's free online even if it can get the Xbox down to a competitive price

I don't see how they can sell it so cheap. But if they do manage to do so, it will be a big boost for them. It will certainly be Sony-Ninetend-M$ then.
Maybe Nintendo will laucnh it at that and expect to make it up in download of the older games?

Honestly, I wouldn't even pay 100 dollars for the Revolution. I'm kind of questioning right now whether to continue gaming into the next generation at all. With the Xbox 360 and PS3 I just see the same stuff from this generation with better graphics. I like that the Revolution is going in a new direction and hope it does well though. If I get anthing it would probably be a PS3, since it'd be a cheap Blu-ray player and if I wanted to I could play games on it. I'm thinking that the PSP will be my only console.

I would expect the Revolution to cost $199 at launch... not 99... but if it was, hey good job Nintendo. XD
Nintendo is known for making their hardware cheap for the consumers... And they always do it with quality hardware!.. cheap but strong! Remember the G4 test of durability, GC beat ps2 and xbox... and GCs have been known to work even after being dragged behind a truck. XD And not once has my Nintendo hardware ever failed me... hell my Original Gameboy (yea the huge grey box with the small screen) still works perfectly! ^_^
BTW, the Gameboy Micro only costs Nintendo like $44 to make, and they sell it at $99... lol I'm sure it will go down in price... but it just shows that even with Nintendo's low price, they still make a good profit."The next generation of video gaming starts when the PS3 hits store shelves."
Hardcore gamers still play Nintendo. =P
Buying PS3 and Revolution! ^_^/
Viva la Revolution!

I doubt it will be around $99. I'd expect a price from $149-$199.

i work at gamestop, and weve been hearing that it could cost the same as the 360, i hope this isnt true, but i KNOW it wont be 100.

Haven't they already said that they are aiming for a lower price than the competitor systems? I think they have, not sure though. I doubt it will be $99 but I also doubt it would be $300/$400.

-
10-09-2005 #24
I'm guessing between $199-$250. That would sound like a reasonable price. $99 is too cheap and $299 is too expensive.

if they sold it at 100 it would reap in more buyers, but with little to no profit. but on the other hand if they sold it for say 200 they would get more of a profit with less sales though. i would say to go for 150 to 175 tops.
