I have successfully ripped a DVD using DVDecrypter and another program called MPGJoin...basically I just ripped the main movie VOB files from the DVD and then renamed them to .MPG and then used MPGJoin to combine the files into one big file and then I burned it to a DVD and then copied it over to the PS3 using the triangle button.

    I think he just did?

Just google the programs mentioned. It's a pretty straightforward process.

You can use DVDShrink as well.
    Put DVD in player.
    Open shrink.
    Burn to computer.
Rename to .mpg instead of .vob
Use MPG join which is a program that will take the 3 or 4 .mpg you end up with and joins them as one big file.
Then burn that to CD/DVD or use a memory card.
Place in PS3 and copy to the hard drive.

    I'll do my best:

    1- Install DVDDecrypter from: http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/
    2- Install MPGJoin from: http://member.newsguy.com/~theprof/Readme.html
3- Put DVD in drive and open DVD Decrypter
4- Click on Mode at the top, and then select File (you should see a bunch of files show up in the window)
5- Click on Edit, and then click Select Main Movie Files
6- Select the destination that you want the VOB files to go to.
7- Click the Decrypt button (picture of a CD pointing to a hard drive)
8- After this gets done, just rename the extensions of the files from .VOB to .MPG
9- Open MPGJoin and browse to where you saved the files, click the first file and then the arrow to move it over to the right side window, do this will all the files in order
10- Type in the name of what you want the joined file name to be
    11- Click Join
12- Once this is done, using a DVD burning software (I use Nero) select a new DVD compliation and select DVD-ROM (UDF) (you have to do this one because the file will be over 2GB)
13- Burn the new .MPG file onto a disc
14- After it has completed, put the disc in the PS3 and go to Video on the XMB, select the DVD disc and press the triangle button and have it list all the contents of the disc
15- Go to the file and press the triangle button again and select Copy and tell it to copy to the HDD
16- Back out with the Circle button and go to the newly copied video and press the X button, and enjoy!

Another option (and recommended) would be to install PS3Video9 from: http://www.redkawa.com/videoconverters/ps3video9/

With this program after you join the files into one big .MPG file, use this to convert it to one of the formats the PS3 reads and then proceed from step #13 but instead copy the PS3 format video to a disc (doing this will make the file size much smaller)

Let me know if this helps!

Yes, but sometimes it doesn't always show the file extensions of the different files, so if that happens just open up My Computer, click on Tools at the top, then select Folder Options, it will pull up a new window, select the View tab, just scroll down a little and uncheck the Hide Extensions For Known File Types and click OK. This will make Windows show the file extensions for all files on your computer. Thanks for the +rep too!

wow this way is soo much easier, put the dvd in your computers disc drive, out a dvd-r in another slot, copy the movie into a folder or something, burn the movie onto the dvd-r, press triangle, and burn it on to your ps3's hdd drive....

I have 5 .vob files from a DVD-rip that I renamed to .mpg. I skipped the step where you join the .mpgs and left them as 5 seperate files since the combined size would have been like 4.5 gb. Then I burned them to a DVD-RW and put the disc in the PS3 and it acted like it was reading it but the disc never showed up under video or any other icon. Any thoughts? I figure it might be because I didn't join them. But I've heard the PS3 can't recognize files over 4 gb. Tell me whatcha think.

can you change the file extension for any type or just the ones mentioned here? I have a few different types and this would save me the trouble of converting all of them to .mp4

LOL go to www.video.google.com on your ps3 and you can download those videos straight onto your ps3 HDD . Note: the video has to be a google video video, it cant be from youtube (they have alot of youtube videos on google videos, youll see what i mean) also you have to change the format of the video to psp format NOT pc/mac.

Ok....I went there, but when I type in a name of a song, it brings a whole list of them, but....... it's not directly from google. When I click on any video, it takes me to youtube. But I want to download it from video.google.com. Before it was very easy, you just searched a song and it actually showed videos from google that you can choose which format to download it in. But now, it brings videos from youtube. How can I download videos so I can store them on my PS3's HDD?

What you can do is get a dvd and rip it onto your comps hdd and from their copy/paste it onto a blank dvd. Then pop it into the ps3 and it thinks its a normal data disc and you can rip the data onto the hdd.
