Will the new 360 Elite's HDMI connection provide a better video qualilty than the Component connections that the normal 360 offers? I mean a difference you can see, not anything hifistic which you can see with a microscope, just a difference which can be seen and could significantly change the gaming experience?
Or is the HDMI built to the Elite just for HDMI-connections' universality and commonness?
Thanks in advance. That question has really been bothering me for the last few days.![]()

I don't think so, could be wrong but I doubt it.

No, most people won't notice a difference.

NO!
For the last TIME, HDMI has no picture quality advantages over Component.
The only advantages of HDMI is the HDCP copyright protection and the digital audio (my reciever only has optical inputs, anyway).
It's mainly added for compliance with all HDTV's since they all now come with HDMI ports. This does not mean it's better but it means you don't have to worry when you buy a HDTV.
My HDTV has Component and VGA along with HDMI so I don't need to shell out the extra cash.

The video output is the same, it just adds support for TruHD Sound/7.1.

HDMI being digital is less likley to have interference from other devices (Transformers, Balists etc...), and HDMI 1.3 supports higher color depth utilzing depp color technology along with 7.1 audio...
I am not sure what HDMI spec the 360 will support if it even supports it... Its all up in the air till we actually see it.

Not that bothered by HDMI since I haven't got any HDMI inputs in my display or receiver anyway. For some people that have the audio gear, HDMI has the advantage of delivering TrueHD sound. But I'm not even sure any TrueHD receivers are on the market yet, so for the vast majority of us, it doesn't make any difference.

HDMI is more about including audio and pure digital signal. But both are actually pretty close. I hate extra cables though, so HDMI was a no brainer to me with my PS3. Just looks a heck of a lot nicer (just having 1 cable) and is more convenient.

This is exactly why I don't understand why people are freaking out about the Elite. Only new users and some hardcore owners are going to purchase these.

Too bad you cant upconvert through component, but hdmi would be a nice extra if you have the extra slot.

The end result will depend greatly (if not entirely) on your HDTV/Monitor.
With some sets, component (even though it's an analog method of video signal transmission) will yeild the better looking picture. Other sets will definitely look better with HDMI... it's completely dependant on your HDTV.
The only definite advantage HDMI has over component is the digital 'handshake' between HDMI enabled devices. This ensures that when (if?) the copy protection for HD-DVD's and Blu-ray disks is ever implimented, you'll keep the 1080p resolution... because an HD-DVD with copy protection enabled will be downsampled the 1080p frame to 540p without HDMI, giving you only half the resolution in component.
This is unlikely to be included in any disks for several years, though... so it's really not what most would consider a big deal.
I honestly believe Microsoft is including the HDMI port less because of it's actual advantages (which are negligable at best), and more because of consumer perception... Sony's hyped HDMI substantially, so Microsoft probably doesn't want consumers who have been duped into thinking HDMI will suddenly give them a superior picture to feel like the 360 can't compete on that level.

On paper, HDMI may seem better, but most people cannot tell the difference. Also, isn't the 360 programmed to transmit analog signals only? Wouldn't Microsoft have to re work the entire hardware, to make HDMI/ digital output possible? Please verify. Thank you.

^They wouldn't have to re work the entire hardware only Ana the upscaling chip in the 360 that is analog which is going to be replace with HANA. Hana is going to be digital an a little more advance than Ana.

All things being equal, HDMI should look a bit better than component. However, one can look better than the other depending on the TV, the source material... Given the choice, I'd rather use HDMI.

Yes HDMI is better then component. Very few TV's accept 1080p through component, and almost all accept it through HDMI. So 1080p vs 720p, take a guess. 7.1 surround sound and a digital signal through (most likely) HANA being better then what you currently have (ANA). If you have a TV that can do 1080p HDMI is worth it, but if 720p is your best resolution HDMI won't do a whole lot for you.

What about those of us that only have a DVI connection like me,my HDTV is 6 years old.Do you think there will be some kind of HDMI to DVI adapter?
-
03-23-2007 #22
I'm pretty sure they have DVI-HDMI converters.
Yea, here you go:

monoprice has pretty much the cheapest HDMI cables around. You don't want to have to pay too much for them.

I hope you can use any HDMI cable for the new one but will have to wait and see I guess. I just figured you would not be able to use just any cable but only ones made for the new 360 by Microsoft.
