    Help... Freezing Up

    My XBOX has always ran great UNTIL LAST NIGHT...

    I was playing Gears (online) and it froze up twice.

    Today froze twice during Tiger Woods (not online)

    Discs are fine, I spray canned air in the vents about twice a month.. it has plenty of air space... and was not on for long periods of time during ANY the freeze's.

    Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

    Bueller?

    Start saying googbye to your xbox360 call MS and hopefully they sent you a new one for free. Not much I can say great games but faulty consoles that break.

    Yep, your XBox is gonna die pretty soon. Its best to call Microsoft and get a new one if you are still in the Warrenty and all that.

    Lol to the googbye...anyways, there's really nothing you can do but wrap it in a towel and call Microsoft demanding your Xbox 360 to be fixed. A warranty helps a lot.

    So yeah, you're screwed...it's better to speed up the process then having to go through tedious amounts of freeze ups and disk reading errors.

    Wait a minute what if you don't have a warranty like me? Do I still call them up for it to be fixed? Mine is suffering from the 3 red lights and I have done everything to make it work....

    No warranty, no chance. Sorry about that. Try and give them a call, but if it's out of warrantly, you're out a 360.

    so I am screwed then because I chose to open my case to paint it black to match the rest of my setup.... WEAK.

    its only 4 months old too...

    so I guess I wait for the black 120gb and get a warranty next time. (release date yet anyone???)

    Well, the warranty has been upped to a full year from the day of purchase so if you're within that zone you are clear as ice. The number is 1-800-4-MY-XBOX...

    I was in the same boat as you once, my warranty expired and my Xbox 360 flashed some red at me. But Microsoft still replaced it for free, but damn it took forever. A week for the box to arrive, a little over a week for them to get it and another week before they shipped it back...which took almost a week for me to get...Over a month in total. Free shipping though. If not, just be persistent and eventually they will cave in.

    you think they will even help me since I broke the seal to remove and paint the cover?

    I will have to call in the morning... I am willing to pay.

    I just dont want to eat $400

    any idea what causes freezing?

    is it the hd?

    the disc drive?

    I could replace both of those for less than the cost of a new xbox.

    Seriously Gears of War gets addicting and I haven't been able to play in god know long. I month is a long wait...

    Doesn't matter, you are going to crap out eventually. Better to wrap a towel around it and get it over with.

    ...Around 130 dollars Uncool, if they refuse to replace it for free. But like I said, you just have to be persistent.

    if I can get it fixed for $130 that would be fantastic...... should be free being its age, but I was the one who opened it to remove the shell and voided free replacement.

    sure beats being out $400

    have u checked to see that it's not just gears that it freezes on. Maybe you wore it out?

    I don't think MS will touch it since you've modded it yourself

    The red lights are meant to mean hardware failure so if you aren't getting them then maybe it's just your disc

    yea... it was 2 different games (tiger woods and gears) and they both are scratch free.

    I have not tried to sit and play halo or crackdown... maybe I will give that a whirl.

    this is soo weak.

    i had the exact same problem, MS has horrible service, i sent out my console on the 10th of march and they received it on the 14th and they have been denying that they have received it, finally today after calling everyday they finally gave me a tracking number and i they said i should expect to receive the console by Friday. 20 days and yet no console i NEED MY GEARS AND CRACKDOWN :P

    I HATE MS CUSTOMER SERVICE! is it me or every time i call it seems a foreigner picks up the phone? does MS hire out of the country

    because they are really pissing me off as half the time either i don't understand what they are saying or the other way around.

    Just make a lot of fuss if your out of warranty and don't give up. MSFT are very lienient when it comes to stuff like this as they take pride in a good after sales service.

    If its not been a year yet, since your purchase than you have Microsoft's
    warranty otherwise you are out of luck.

    Why don't you buy a warranty plan and fix it?

    It's always mentioned but if all else fails, MS won't fix it, it' not working at all, before you sell it for parts on ebay, check out www.xbox-scene.com tuturials. Alot of help on opening it up yourself and trying to fix some of these problems.

    some of what you guys are saying instill insecurity about the state of my 360 it freezes occasionally and i have never had any console break down on me hopefully this next-gen consoles won't mess that trend.
