I have seen the words "hatebot", and "hate" thrown about quite a bit lately. This can be seen especially here, where there are series' of threads addressing the issue. However, what I have not seen is what defines "hate" in such contexts. This is an issue that needs to be looked into, as I agree that there is a rather great degree of "hate" on every side of these forums, but what I see as hate may not very well fit into your definition of it. It is vital that such terminology is well defined by the members of these forums and placed into a dictionary-like guideline so these problems can be seeked out and addressed much more easily.

What hate means;
hate - verb, hat·ed, hat·ing, noun –verb (used with object)
1.to dislike intensely or passionately; feel extreme aversion for or extreme hostility toward; detest: to hate the enemy; to hate bigotry.
2.to be unwilling; dislike: I hate to do it. –verb (used without object)
3.to feel intense dislike, or extreme aversion or hostility. –noun
4. intense dislike; extreme aversion or hostility.
5. the object of extreme aversion or hostility.
------
Now basicly all these "hate" threads are kind of useless in my opinion. The main reason they are brought out to everyone's attention is that that person "hated" that the other person made a rude comment, derailed the disscusion into a flame war, or some other retarded thing.
But... In the end, these "hate" threads are just turning into what they were meant to fix or something in that matter.
I personally think they are missusing the word "hate". That word in itself is very strong, has a strong meaning(s). I may dislike someones comment, I may think it is wrong. But I don't "hate" them or what they write. I just take it as there own thought and move on, let them think what they want. The truth about everything will be settled down the road.
But oh well... People can use the word "hate" all they want. Even though it may be the wrong word.
The only thing I hate is the evil that is apon this world. And that is Britney Spears. (j/k)

Just do what your supposed to do and you'll get respect for it.
Thats all I do on the other forums I'm a mod in. Could care less what they really think. Cause I'm the boss! ha!

Hmm I lack the ability to have a GAWD complex or show them who's boss. I just do my job to the best of my ability and try to be as fair as possible (though others would contest this). Hate comes with the power and responsibility I guess.....>_>....

Nah, I don't have a God complex. I'm really flexable with people. Yet some don't deserve it. But I'll get them a couple warnings before I pass any harsh ruling apon them. I don't want anyone to be banned or anything. But they get what they ask for.

Lol; as this somewhat encircles me as some kind of evil person, I used HateBot as it was essentially the same idea as Lefein's thread. Its important. There is something wrong with the way these threads went.
Scarface's, (Lefein #1), should have been locked, or altered to make it amusing, and he shouldn't have believed all the crap they said in the first place. It was in the wrong section, and he really believed it. If he'd thought it was a joke, fine! Then its a joke. He didn't, and thats where it went wrong, because essentially he was spreading FUD. I believe wholeheartedly, from seeing this person post before that I don't think he was on purposefully doing it when he knew it was wrong.
Teresald's, (Xaor #1), should have given a ban, and I proved it, they have now banned him, but that isn't what I was asking for. I want that kind of action to be taken over that kind of case EVERYTIME, because its people LIKE that who will be back and back again, and they don't stop, they are stealth trolls, and they need to be banned more often, and more harshly.
Take JapJap and Latency, Rubics Cube and perhaps Rune... If you know who they are. All of them were essentially trolls. I call them stealth trolls, because they attempt to hide their true meaning to do more damage and not to get banned.
I made the thread for two reasons. I believe it will be good to see what the people's feelings are on what action needed be taken, and also it outlined something important, no-one thinks the same on the issue, including the moderators.
Trolling is, BY FAR, the worst offence you can do on a forum, except perhaps saying something racially offensive, it should give an instantanious temporary ban, for longterm abusers? It should be permanent.
I'm not going to start a new thread every time I see a problem. I'm just trying to show moderators what WE think they should do, and that was the purpose of the poll.
Thats what Teresald did, and he got his thread locked, but he had previously ASKED for a lock. This is the kind of thing which doesn't help.
We need to kill these people before they START being a real problem, because not only are they bad posters, they bring out the worst in everyone else.
Uncool, since when have you been the most hated moderator?
Understand this:
MY thread, and I believe Lefein's to were not an attack on the post, they were an attack on what was DONE to the post.
I find it ironic, that Uncool should be so supportive of your thread which attacks our post, when essentially what we are trying to solve is what he blamed his departure on.

Its funny all t he trolls you mentioned were of the 360 veriety....I even posted links to PS fans going crazy....but no action against them...you have that psgirl(or whatever her name is) stating capcom went multi because bill gates let the ceo sleep with his wife, nothing done. (this is an all ages board right?) You got Ch!eF callin people names and lashin out at random...nothing done. PS fans go way off topic and its deemed ok, xbox 360 fans respond and wham they are the faults?
You guys bash team xbox all the time, but if you look in the main ps3 section its pretty scarey with the amount of FUD in there.

03-29-2007 #11Well you guys took note of whats going on and I am taking notice of it....>_>....Lol, as this somewhat encircles me as some kind of evil person, I used HateBot as it was essentially the same idea as Lefein's thread. Yeah I was late on that one, LP took care of it but near the end it somewhat concluded itself. If this happen's again make sure you tell others not to feed the trolls and report it immediatly a Mod or SMC (or both) if no mod is on.Scarface's, (Lefein #1), should have been locked, or altered to make it amusing, and he shouldn't have believed all the crap they said in the first place. I usually don't hand out perma-ban's without careful thought and reference (and community input) about how a he/she reacts in their posting. I don't like to jump the gun on this sort of thing, I try to be careful about it.Teresald's, (Xaor #1), should have given a ban, and I proved it, they have now banned him, but that isn't what I was asking for. Yeah and only you guys can help us when there are some present. However what I don't like is how some people think a simple disagreement is considered trolling (in which we are flooded with reports saying he/she is trolling for mintue things. You will know trolling when its blatantly obvious. Except for stealth trolls, they are of utmost danger in any forum.Take JapJap and Latency, Rubics Cube and perhaps Rune... If you know who they are. All of them were essentially trolls. I call them stealth trolls, because they attempt to hide their true meaning to do more damage and not to get banned.
I know and I appreciate the feedback, without it I wouldn't have taken someof the measures I have done in the past couple of days. With that said actually posting a cohesive report on any and all offences whether is trolling/flamebait/spamming/etc can help us Mod's come to a much faster decision other than just posting "troll" every time there is a report. Elaborate on it otherwise I can't really take the necessary action and will take longer to view post history etc...>_>...I made the thread for two reasons. Its not I don't agree with you, some PS3 people here need to clean up their language and putaway their blatant fanboyistic (word?) bashing of MS as well. It sickens me to have to give some many warnings/infractions for vulgar flamebait when people just do not stop.

Well obviously, it was an extremely complicated thread (teresald's). It wasn't immediately obvious either. A careful eye needs to be put to things like this.
If its really got to a stage where the entire community needs to upheave itself for a relatively new poster, who won't be missed, trolling, fairly blatantly on a single thread to get banned, its going to take a long time to deal with any issue.
I find it difficult to report, because I don't really know exactly what is expected.Yeah and only you guys can help us when there are some present. I mean. I could have something long, like what I had for the 'Xaor's hatebot topic', or I could have something short, like 'Theres a problem here. Check it out'. Its hard to find that happy medium.

Now, thats rather contradictory really. On the one hand you get banned, on the other you get a 2 point infraction.Trolling | 2 | Never
Secondly, I'm not really sure that Trolling IS the inverse of flaming.
Flamebaiting is the inverse of flaming.
Trolling is more like greek fire in the 'Flame' world.
Yeh but you can kill your enemies ;DOkay I'm not all into the mass murder of people but I will battle them on grounds of their posting. See above posts on how to elaborate on these posters so that we can immediately take action...

03-31-2007 #15And it took me a lot of time to analyze his post and see to it that a necessary action was made. He even bothered to rag on Morph about my call when he knew why he got banned. That itself reassured the necessary action was taken. Though I should've been quicker in execution of the action either way.Well obviously, it was an extremely complicated thread (teresald's). It wasn't immediately obvious either. A careful eye needs to be put to things like this.

I know, however I do see the need of it sometime in the near future for stealth trollers as it is becoming a major problem here. Took me sometime to make sure Karma24 and Rune_74 were one and the same.If its really got to a stage where the entire community needs to upheave itself for a relatively new poster, who won't be missed, trolling, fairly blatantly on a single thread to get banned, its going to take a long time to deal with any issue.
Give me at least a couple sentences to a paragraph even to justify the report. Just so you know we do get stupid reports from time to time that don't really address the problem in more depth.I find it difficult to report, because I don't really know exactly what is expected.
I mean. I could have something long, like what I had for the 'Xaor's hatebot topic', or I could have something short, like 'Theres a problem here. Check it out'. Its hard to find that happy medium.
ie. "troll" "moron" "sick em" "pfft what a loser" -> these type of reports don't help me do my job...>_>....
Flamebait is often used as the weapon for trollers in most of their posts, and for more elaborate postings is often sugar coated to seem harmless. Also flamebait isn't secluded to just trollers as it could just be brought forth from mere disagreements from people but it nevertheless insults someone more so in a personal level which is quite annoying since it happens a lot. Now, thats rather contradictory really. On the one hand you get banned, on the other you get a 2 point infraction.
Secondly, I'm not really sure that Trolling IS the inverse of flaming.
Flamebaiting is the inverse of flaming.
Trolling is more like greek fire in the 'Flame' world.
Flamebait and flaming definitely coincide when it comes to the reports of heated flamefests...>_>...
Also you got to remember that perma-ban's are handed out in very severe cases of trolling in which Teresald did (and insulted nearly everyone in his thread because of it). He knew what he was doing prior to making the thread.
Also trolling is as you say the most severe case of the reports in this forum. So making sure its taken care of is of utmost importance. This is why trolling is a "never."
Pfft yeah right, you want another Mod incompetence thread? Be my guest.Yeh but you can kill your enemies ;D

I don't think the word hate is a "bad" word in a forum. In real life I would have a problem with it but not on here.

People are so angry on these forums.
Its the whole 'you're with us or against us' thing that makes the hate.
I've been to numerous other multi console forums and its no where near as bad there.
