Interview with SpeedTree
So...what questions do you guys want to ask.Hey, Justin,
Thanks very much for your note! Michael Sechrest forwarded your email to me,
as I tend to be the contact person for articles about SpeedTree.
Go to www.speedtree.com for 4.0 features and a list of all our licensees
(new ones are in blue in the "Who's Using SpeedTree?" section).
Among the customers we've announced since the start of the year are Atari,
Vivendi, Microsoft Game Studios, SEGA, Midway, Frontier and KOEI.
Send your questions my way and I'll get answers back to you quickly.
Regards!
Kevin Meredith

Don't get me wrong Justin, it's great we're getting these Interviews and all, but quite frankly I think that the interviews about game tools is getting old.
I mean they really don't offer much about the PS3 but rather just an informative essay on what their product is. Sure, it's great that these tools are being used to create great games, but these interviews offer very little insight into the development process for the PS3.
However, that's just my honest opinion.

Well I suppose it's better than nothing, but I do agree that they're pretty repetitive and standard.
The reason they're so willing to answer your questions is because they're trying to sell their product. In reality, the gaming public really don't seem to care that much (except for the Fantasy Lab one).

Well I am not just going for your standard tools though. The people I am getting interviews from are some of the newest and coolest techs.
-Fantasy Lab
-Pixelux
-Natural Motion
these are all tools that enable great and easy game developement. Information on these tools and what they provide helps people to understand and expect certain things out of upcoming PS3 and Xbox 360 titles.

...Yeah but they don't give a damn about the nex-gen systems. All they care is that developers use and license their technology to make games for the systems, they don't actually make the games. That's why I thought it was great that we got an interview with the developers of "The Darkness". They're developers, they know the ups and downs of programming for the PS3.
I'm not saying we shouldn't do this interview now. Rather, just for future reference perhaps you could focus more of your time submitting e-mails to game developers?

hahaha....lol, well greg, I can show you the list of developers I ahve emailed (pretty much everyone I can find that has an email address) and then show you the results. lol. I email them probably once a week and out of the 35-40 game studios I send to, only about 1 or so respond.
So these middleware studios are the best I can do right now and until game devs can talk about PS3 development or are ready to announce more on their games I can't really get anything.
Not to mention, no other gaming site is doingcool interviews with Fantasy Lab. Plus, I found out for us that Fantasy La is developing for the PS3 and will announce first to us the PS3 game.

Yeah Justin you have been doing a fantastic job.
It's nice to have someone on the team that focuses on "developer relations" - you've become an expert in communicating with companies and asking questions, so just keep it up.
Every site has to start somewhere, so I'm sure we'll gradually build up to bigger and better things over time.

yeah...I am gradually building contacts so when the PS3 launches I can contact anyone, just like IGN.

I agree with Justin, Greg and Bhav here. =) Exclusive interviews are great, and middleware software is an interesting area. Keep developing those contacts Justin and do it in a professional way. But Greg is right, there are only so many different middleware interviews we can do before people start saying "All they ever do is interview these random tech companies". We should definitely persue this one, and any other ones which are exciting and different, but should ease back on the focus on middlewate slightly.
Make sense?

Well I am trying to get both, but Game studios are so hard to contact and get info out of. I can show you my list of email contacts so you can see for your self. If you guys want more than middleware interviews than I need help.
The Pandemic Interview about mercenaries 2 is almost done and there will be good info on RSX and PS3 and everything.
Also, I have gotten little word back from Digi-Guys, hopefully they can do something soon.
