Getting below the magical £400 barrier is good. Bit of a £25 annoyance for those that bought at launch, but then it's hardly that bad.. I am happier the console is sub £400, than I am upset losing out £25...

However, the rabid Sony haters will jump on this news and spin it to make PS3 look like it's not selling...

'cause WHSmiths and Play have both said they've had a big fall in sales once it picks back they will boost the price

Common sense for one. If a retailer mentions a "savings", it's because it's a sale or promotion. If it was a price cut, then £399 would just be the price and they wouldn't mention that you're saving £64.98

The only reason they mention that is because £464.97 is the regular price and £399 is the temporary sale/promotional price.

Those are all sales. The "real" price is crossed out. Retailers are free to charge whatever they want, and a sale doesn't have to end at a particular time. Take Amazon.com for example. All of their items are discounted, but those aren't "price cuts", it's just a sale price. If you were to buy the same item elsewhere, you would probably have to pay the full price.

A real "price cut" would mean that the item would NORMALLY be available at that price everywhere. This is clearly not the case.

gerrylum those are not sales it's their price compared to other brick and motar stores in the UK, they sell cheaper because they dont have hundreds of shops and thousands of employees to pay wages.

Exactly. It's a discount warehouse. It's a discount off of the SMRP which, technically speaking, is no different from a sale price. The fact that they're not brick and mortar means nothing. A "price cut" means that the manufacturer lowers their SMRP, which hasn't happened. So that's that.

What's funny about play.com is that it say's "Region PAL: Will play on UK and European Playstation3 only".

I thought PS3 games were region free?

Anyway this is a good deal and I think I may well be ordering my PS3 right now.
