1.7 Update: bigger than you think

Well so alot of people are complaining that the 1.7 update was really nothing, but in fact it was it added:
Support for Game Pads( DDR , Guitar Hero (i think))
Support for PS2 controllers w/ rumble during PS2 games
Support for Steering Wheels w/ FFB during PS2 games

Cause now controllers dont need the PS button to register with the PS3.
So this is a very good addition in my book in extending functionality, but I agree that it should have come sooner than 1.7 .

I don't have a PS3 yet so I am not familiar with the firmware updating, but isn't there like some sorta changelog that actually TELLS you what has been fixed or updated. If there isn't shouldn't Sony get their act together and do one. I mean how long does it take to go "we changed this, fixed this, did that". It would prehaps stop everyone second guessing what is going on.
I'll buy a next gen console when someone produces a next gen game.

Actually charmingcharlie, there is a changelong in the 1.7 update that tells what it added/did. Also hence why the title of this thread is 1.7 update: "bigger than you think"

So what. 5 mins to download and 5 mins to install, indicates a pretty meaningless update. Other things that are much more important could have been fixed. If anything these things should have been available from day one.

What was the logical reasoning in the first place, behind only being able to transfer those PSone DLs to the PSP? It is just silly how they run things. Makes no sense. Most of the PS3's issues could be solved by the avg person on the street. Its ridiculous.

Like the price cut. I mean wtf is wrong with them? What do they need to "revisit" about their strategy? My god.

Haha this gave me a good laugh, thanks for that. So the average person could write code for the PS3 to make in game XMB access? Come on my mom barely knows how to turn on her laptop.

I see why you are angry but we all need to relax, these things will be fixed in time and for the time being be happy with what you got! The system is brand new and plus you aren't even paying for online service. So just relax go play some R:FoM and get that rage out or go play one of the other games on the PS3 and just chill, in time my friend in time.

So, wait, can someone confirm that Guitar Hero will now in fact work on PS3? This update has resolved the issue of getting the guitar controller to work?

Since when did most of the issues that the avg person could solve = coding to make in game XMB access?

I'm talking about things along the lines of:

    Lack of PS Store content.
    Shipment of proper HD cables.
    Price tag.
    Need for Background Dling
    Need for Bluetooth keyboard support
    Need for Sixaxis support

Simple things. Problems that could obviously be avoided entirely. I'm not saying peope could actually solve these problems, let me rephrase people can identify these issues faster than Sony can. Which doesn't make sense IMO.

These things plague the system when they shouldn't. Its nothing wrong with the PS3 itself, the issue lies with the people whom are running the show in Sony's game division.

Most of the problems you could point out about the PS3 should not be there in the 1st place.

Okay let me get this straight. To incorporate background downloading, it takes no coding experience what so ever? Blue tooth keyboard support, once again takes no programming experience? Getting deals with game companies to release demo's, no buisness management skills?

I think that you are trying to say is that there is a lot of features that should have been incorporated from the start that weren't and most people could tell you that that is what they want in a system?

Not this price crap again. Alright go analyze the system and see what you are getting and you will see that it is an extremely good price. Hey just for the fun of it compare it to a 360, and what do you know, the 360 cost more to get all the functions that PS3 has.

I think this update fixes the HDMI Handshaking issue also.

Because I just got my 4665F TV and was having some problems, but once i updated to 1.7, it didn't do it ever ever again.
