If Barry Bonds breaks the record

I know this is a much-debated topic, so lets see how it plays out here. If, or I should probably say when Bonds breaks the home run record this season, as a baseball fan will you be happy or upset? Will you consider him the true home run king or will the steroid deal force you to ignore what he did?

He should stop one home run short and retire...

That is the only way to save his career and name, if he doesn't well his new nickname will be "*"!

We blame Barry Bonds for taking steroids when you'd be a complete idiot to not think many of the pitchers he faced where taking them as well. People need their legends, but I don't. Nutrition, workouts, therapy, everything you can think of gets improved which each season. Twenty years ago if you tore a muscle you'd be done for good, now its just a couple months. Face the facts, athletes are better nowadays than they were 50 years ago.

Barry Bonds may have taken steroids, but he wasn't alone by a long shot...how many other players out there can hit 70+ homeruns. Should sports be pure, of course, but they aren't...too bad. Athletes were alcholics in the 40s, coccain addicts in the 80s, and I promise you if there was a miracle drug like HGH around in the 30s, Babe Ruth would be getting injections daily.

If steroids are this miracle drug that make you into a beast, why is Barry Bonds the only one at 700.

Ill hope that im at the Dbacks game and get the ball so i can sell it on ebay for a million bucks.
Other than that if he wasnt such a arse i would be rooting for him but i can care less just because he is one. Then he uses steroids and he is even lucky to be getting this far because the MLB gave him a huge break. When he breaks it they should put "Barry steroids Bonds"

The only problem i see though, like announcers say, there is no saying if babe ruth used steroids along with the others, because it was popular at the time.

The bolded doesn't make sense. That's why he's almost at 700!

I like Cyranns' idea, I would actually tip my hat to him for doing that.

BUT, if he does happen to break Hanks' record and he gets any sort of recognition in the Baseball Hall of Fame, I will drive to Cooperstown and defacate any and all of his accomplishments.

IMO, Ken Griffey Jr will forever be the "Home Run King"... He has the greatest and smoothest swing in baseball history... not to mention there is no contest in the fact that he would have broken and more than likely CRUSHED Hank Aarons records; 1. Without steroids, and 2. Without his injury problems that slowed him down.

Ken Griffey is to baseball what Bo Jackson is to football... Even with an injury plagued career... the true followers of the sport know these guys were one of the best to ever play their sports respectively.

Griffey is awesome and I agree about him breaking Aarons record if he wasn't always plagued with injuries.

What are you talking about "most money most likely to win" ??

Need I remind you of the '03 World Series Champions; The Florida Marlins, and how they actually LOST money the year they won the WS.

The point is why is he the only one? It'd be moronic to think he was the only one taking steroids during its hay-day, still moronic to think no less than 60% of power hitters did. Yet he's still over 100 homeruns ahead of anyone who was around during that time. I have to think Barry Bonds was the best before steroids, even better while taking steroids, and still the most dangerous hitter after he stopped taking him.

The man is in his mid 40s, clearly off performance enhancing drugs, and still leads the league in walks. The man is the best that played the game regardless of steroids.

Tons of people would highly disagree.

Still leads the league in walks because the mangers of the opposing teams recognize him as a damn cheat and don't want to add to his "record breaking" and give the pitcher the OK to walk him, or the pitcher decides that on his own.
*EDIT* And the reason he's over 100 HR's in front of anyone in that time is because McGwire is gone and Sosa took a break from steroids and tried cork, which didn't work so he went on hiatus.

I will be neutral , I am a fan of him and have been for a long time just because he played on the Pirates back in the day and was one of the reasons why our losing streak isnt any longer, But I dont think he truly deserves it without at least a asterisk , he used Steroids plain and simple ...but you know what alot of players did in that time, hell who to say how many pitchers roided up . I do think he is unfairly criticized a bit compared to the rest who might have used them but that might be because he's arrogant ...but you dont take no talent yahoo and give steroids and expect him to break records ...Bonds has talent no matter how much you hate him you have to realize that and would have been a HOF'er no doubt without the roids. I think ppl are making a bigger deal about this and the reason why I say this because I am a firm believer that either A-rod or Albert Pujols or both will come behind Bonds and pass him. I also wish Ken Griffey didnt become so injury prone for that stretch because he would neck and neck with Bonds atm , either way you look at it though its becoming a hr hitting era thats why Frank Thomas , Manny Ramirez , A-rod , Jim Thome all have a good chance at 500 this season. And the 300 win club will be have so few 300 win entrees after Tom Glavine enters it.

@ Goodfella , It make perfect sense he's saying if HGH and steroids make you such a beast why is Bonds the only one from the era to reach the 700 club , thats where my post comes in about Line 5, I can take steroids all I want and practice all I want , that doesnt change the fact I have less than 1% chance of even hitting a hr in the pros

Griffey and Bonds would be neck and neck, the only difference is... Griffey would be 5 years younger and would completely outlast and destroy the record... lol.

    This is too easy...

One, those pictures are a joke. You're comparing a twenty year difference, guess what...everyone gets bigger. Look at EVERY power hitter in the league over their lifetime and you'll see a size difference. I know he took steroids, but this whole size arguement is dumb, everyone gets bigger the longer they are professional athletes.

Still leads the league in walks because the mangers of the opposing teams recognize him as a damn cheat and don't want to add to his "record breaking" and give the pitcher the OK to walk him, or the pitcher decides that on his own.
wrong wrong wrong wrong...and one more time, wrong. If they recognize him as a cheat why would he occasionly be walked with the bases loaded. You mean to tell me managers will purposedly lose games based on their moral views...HAHAHAHAHA!

Managers are there to win games not showcase their views on steroids, and in almost every interview I've heard where a manager talks about Bonds they think of him as an excellent player.

FACT, managers are there to win games, NOT worry about records that don't equal wins.

And the reason he's over 100 HR's in front of anyone in that time is because McGwire is gone and Sosa took a break from steroids and tried cork, which didn't work so he went on hiatus.
So the MVPs Barry Bonds won before that era were what...huh...what were they? He won his first MVP in 1990 when he looked like the guy in the first image. Like I said, he was good before, during, and after...nay, the best.

Steroids does not make you a great player, heck, it doesn't even make you an okay player. 95% of steroids users are players who are in the minors and can't make it into the majors.

Indeed, it was a great day.

Then Florida collapsed the next year. Why? Money.
and the Yanks stayed right where they always are. Why? Money.

Look at football... almost any team has a chance to win every year. (maybe not the cardinals, browns, or lions... but everyone else )

In Baseball, its pretty much the same teams year in and year out.

The thing that I think alot of people don't realize about steroids is that they're not gonna make you hit 70 homers if you couldn't already anyway. What they will do, and what they've obviously done for Bonds is keep him relatively healthy and extend his career by a few years. If he hadn't used steroids through the 90's to help him train, I don't think he would still be hitting homers today.

Take a look at Frank Thomas as a rookie and then a present picture of him. You'll see that he has the same build a little more bulk but more or less he has the same build.

The transformation that Bonds went from with the Pirates to the steroid case he is now is huge! He's a cheat and a no talent hack.

Your reference is one guy?! One guy lol?! Frank Thomas is just a beast, and one freakin guy.

And since when did size become the only factor in hitting home runs? Bat speed and hand eye coordination are more important than your size. Give a bat to the World's Strongest Man and he'll miss a major league pitch 99 out of a 100 times.

Also, his hat size increased. Which means his HEAD GREW! Holy crap! I know people can bulk up over their careers, but would your head grow?
