Re: Halo 3
Dear Mr. Gates:
As you know, the Federal Trade Commission has repeatedly found that games rated “Mature” by the video game industry-captured Entertainment Software Rating Board are routinely sold to kids under the age of 17 despite the age rating. The most recent failure rate of the ratings on “Mature” games, according to the FTC, is 42%. The entire rating system is a fraud, and “broken,” the latter description aptly provided by Senator Hillary Clinton.
As you also know, Lee Boyd Malvo trained on Microsoft’s Halo to further enable him to become the remarkably efficient “DC Beltway Sniper.” That was reported by NBC News at the time and was noted in Malvo’s criminal trial.
You appeared on CBS’ 60 Minutes II and rather revealing and usefully noted that “the cool thing about these games is that they transport you to a world you think is real.” Precisely. Capcom has recently disclosed to investors that your video game industry’s violent games, sold to children, pose a real hazard to the health of the industry. Right on.
The hyperviolent Microsoft Xbox 360 game Halo 3 is scheduled by your company for commercial release in September of this year. The Beta version that was released last week shows us all just how violent the game is and how inappropriate it is for play by anyone under 17, as the “Mature” rating it will surely receive indicates.
Here’s the deal, Mr. Gates: Either Microsoft undertakes dramatic, real steps, through its marketing, wholesale, and retail operations to assure that Halo 3 is not sold, via the Internet and in stores, directly to anyone under 17, or I shall proceed to make sure that Microsoft is held to that standard by appropriate legal means. I have done that before successfully as to Best Buy, and I shall do so again as to Microsoft and all retailers of Halo 3.
Regards, Jack Thompson

One of these days Jack, one of these days, you'll be placed in a mental home.
And on that day, i shall pay you a visit, and force you to watch violent games and read news on violence and games.
And then make you listen to the average Halo2 game online, wait no, i'm not that nasty... >_>I have no signature.

You know ....
I've never once seen a kid go inside a store and buy a rated M game. Not once ever, and I've been in alot of stores.
And thats the fault of the clerk when it does happen, or the parent who buys the game for the kid. But thats the parents decision and parents problem, but not the fault of the company making the game. Same thing goes for kids going to see a Rated R movie with their parents, or sneaking in the movie theatre and getting in through a friend. Same thing goes for the kid getting to buy a music CD with adult lyrics within in.
Not sure why this man is so hyped up about video games.__________________________________________________ _____________________________

The problem I have with these people saying games target kids is that they are still living in the Nintendo world of the 80's. Kids aren't the main gamers anymore, the gamers of the 80s have grown up to become late aged teenagers and people in their 20's. Alot of kids still game, but not nearly the amount of 18-25 year olds who own their own systems and buy their own games.
I'd like examples of how the game industry purposely targets kids with M rated games. Would love to see that one.__________________________________________________ _____________________________

Jack: (Playing Halo on Xbox) Man, I'm getting owned by a bunch of 12 year olds. I know, I'll waste other people's cash (tax payers), and stop them from getting the game.
Playing Halo 2:
Jack: Ahhhhh, stop killing me you *******s!!!
Mom: Jack, you want your chocolate milk now?
Jack: No!! One day, one day, I will pawn all of you!!!!!
Don't understand what Thompson be thinking. He should be going after retailers that sell the games to children and idiot parents that buy the games for their kids, and not the people who make the games. The games are rated for a reason, and the Publishers/Developers aren't the one's selling the games to people.

05-23-2007 #201 Its MS they can take down anyone and any company they want. No matter how much people dont like them they are still one of the most powerfull companies in the entire world.via the Internet and in stores, directly to anyone under 17, or I shall proceed to make sure that Microsoft is held to that standard by appropriate legal means. I have done that before successfully as to Best Buy, and I shall do so again as to Microsoft and all retailers of Halo 3.
2 You took down bestbuy?? I havent seen thompson take down anyone, the only he did was have rockstar remake GTA without hot coffee and that just needed some angry parent to find it to get done.
3 Wow big woop supposidly you foght bestbuy and "won" well guess what bestbuy isnt anywhere close to as big and powerfull MS is.
4 Are you a dumbass?? Ok first off you mentioned Hilary Clinton many times so she must be your idol that right there proves your a nimbasoul. Just leave video games alone and go do somethign with your life god damn.
5 If its over the internet you obviously have to have a credit card. If your old enough to have your own credit card and buy things online why wouldnt you be able to play halo?? Its the FN parents buying it online you dumbass lol.
6 Halo is popular and parents know what it is, and its the PARENTS buying the game for their kids. Its not like kids walk to a store pick up the game and play it NONSTOP with out a single parent knowing. If it were a problem then wh dont we see more parents complainign about thise issue?
This guy has to be the most idotic and annoying person i have ever seen, right there with him is hilary clinton.
All i can say to this is i really hope MS pawns his ass to teach him a lesson. Its not just MS its also Halo, so your not only fighting the most powerfull company your also fighting one of the largest fan bases known to video games.
10 bucks says he attacks MGS 4 or Killzone 3 when they are about to come out. Something like "I will not allow sony to sell these games!!" Mainly because he only attacks major games that make video game companies, gee i wonder why.
If i had the chance id create a whole team of gamers and fight him in every single court case he gets. Id do some kind of agreement with companies in order to be there and fight him. My group would conisist of gamers, parents, slight gamers, and store manegers.

What an idiot. I hate people trying to take away freedoms. I mean that in regards of getting games remade or dumbed down.
On the children issue, how the hell is it Microsoft's fault? It's up to the sellers of the games, namely the store cashiers to stop that.
Lets go sue the gun companies for the illegal use of guns by some retards while we're at it.

I see wacko jacko is at it again. I dont see how this is anyones fault except the retail stores and the parents. They are the ones basically responsible to make sure the M rated games are not sold to underage kids. The way i understand it, the ESRB determines what content is involved and what agegroup it is appropriate for and goes from there. Just like buying beer or cigarettes the stores need to card and the parents need to be more aware of what there kids are engaged in. As far as Malvo training on Halo to be a "professional" sniper is absurd. Im failing to make the connection on how holding a controller teaches someone how to hold a 15+ pound rifle and shoot accurately.
