I was just looking at IGN's game section and noticed that they have already reviewed 4 360 launch titles. The coments the reviewers had were not excellent; not as good as I thought they would be. It seems as though some games are not what they were hyped to be. For example, "PGR3 is more like PGR 2.5 or 2.7" says an analyst. Go watch the reviews for yourselves and post your comments. 8)

Discouraging 360 reviews
-
11-16-2005 #2
I read some reviews for xbox360 games as well just 20 seconds ago there, they dont look like the best, but this shouldnt be in here, it should be in the xbox360 section..
Doesnt look good though, especially Kameos review..the only thing that was 'good' was the textures...
ah well they are just launch games...they wont and never should be considered the bestI have no signature.
No, really, i don't. You're just imagining this.

IGN Referencing PGR3:
Visually, PGR3 is set up to look absolutely gorgeous when in 720p or 1080i. It's still pretty in 480p, but it looks more like an Xbox game to be honest.

11-16-2005 #4Thats on 480p only. It looks absolutely gorgeous when in 720p or 1080i.

How many people have 1080i though, or even 720p...
Thats the reason for the bold, i doubt most people will have 720p or up.
Most people wll just stick with their 480p/i (if they have that) and not bother about getting a new TV/cant afford to get a new TV at the time..
I never thought IGN would say something like that to be honest, but they were being honest i guess..I have no signature.

Yet again, most people are going to have their 360 on their TV. I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed with how their games look as in comparison to their Xbox on a normal TV.
-

It will be the same for the ps3, unless they dont make HD standard on all their games. (highly doubtful). I hope they didnt mark the games down because they dont look as good in standard tv. HD media today doesnt look great on non hdtv either. This is just one of the pitfalls of moving to a new standard.
I read all their reviews and they are kind of conflicting. At times they absolutley praise the games and at others it just seems reality set in and squashed very high expectations. Saying PGR is 2.5 or 2.75 was kind of ridiculous too because PGR2 didnt have quite a number of features that PGR3 does let alone the track, model, and car detail. Plus its at 720p.
The sports games i didnt really care about. Its EA. What more can i say?
8.4 for Kameo and 8.8 for PGR3 is still very good

IGN said the PGR3 graphics are amazing (in HD), sounds are amazing, and gameplay is great... they just said the racing feels the same as PGR2. That, however, is certainly not a bad thing. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Not bad at all for a launch title if you ask me. Not to mention it has the most in depth online mode of any console racer.

What people are expecting for Next gen titles are next gen visuals and next gen gameplay. Their best launch game PGR3 has the next gen visuals, and not so much next gen gameplay. I guess its no big deal as it is a launch title, but I sure hope dev's start innovating a bit more now they have better hardware.
I wouldn't bet on that. Considering us PS2 owners are still playing a 6 year old console, the graphics are going to be a huge leap from PS2 to PS3, especialy noticable to us who don't play Xbox that often, seeing how much better the graphics are from PS2 to Xbox. Unfortunately the Xbox had plenty of juice left in it but Microsoft decided to release another console after only 4 years. But who knows, you could be right

Kameo only got an 8.4 from IGN? Huh...that just seems puzzeling...

For an arcade racing i really dont see what is next gen gameplay. You play woth the controller or steering wheel, but the gameplay cant radically change. If we're following that judgement GT4=GT3.1=GT2.5

And i'm afraid, there wont be any revolution in many types of games, gameplay wise since it's always the same controller. A racing game will still be a racing game. Only so-called racing sims like GT or forza may add realistic damage ( still licence pb )
Nevertheless i think that playing PGR3 on an HDset with a nice steering wheel , 5.1 surround with incar view on LIVE tournament must be a very nice experience
PS3 will be compared to the best last gen, all ppl see xbox games, even if they dont play it.I wouldn't bet on that. Considering us PS2 owners are still playing a 6 year old console, the graphics are going to be a huge leap from PS2 to PS3, especialy noticable to us who don't play Xbox that often, seeing how much better the graphics are from PS2 to Xbox. Most ps3 games will be meant to be played in hd too, so graphic-wise i thinlk STV users will be a little bit disappointed, when they will see HD version of some games.

What does "next-gen" gameplay mean? Do you think arcade racing games are all of a sudden going to have new gameplay just cause they're on new hardware?

this is by far not the best launch ever.

HDTV or not, I rather see how the games will play on LCD TV.

lol yeah next generation gameplay? That doesn't exist lol. When I hear next generation gameplay the only thing that comes to mind is virtual reality. The Revolutions controller is pretty revolutionary and could be considered " next generation gameplay " but the 360 offers nothing new gameplay wise.
Graphics wise, sounds like unless you have an HDTV the games aren't going to look much better overall then the late generation Xbox games. Kind of sickening.__________________________________________________ _____________________________

11-16-2005 #17i wouldn't call a score of 8.4 discouraging or say it only had good textures. ign disliked kameos lastability the most, everything else they liked a lot. pgr3 is a standard racing game without appeal to me. i will have enough fun with kameo and pd0 for quite some time.Doesnt look good though, especially Kameos review..the only thing that was 'good' was the textures...
that lies in the eye of the beholder. my opinion hasn't changed and i still say thats the best launch ever.this is by far not the best launch ever.

is there is no Halo, or soul caliber at launch it FAILS to be the best launch ever. end of story.
there is no reason to go out and buy a 360 right now. like there was for Halo and SC. i consider that is a must for a best launch ever.
-
11-16-2005 #19hum, i bought once a console to play virtua fighter 2 and i have to say that soul calibur is a funny game, it's just not a must have for me and never was. the same applies to halo. that was a game i could wait like 2 years to be finally able to play it on the pc. but well i guess your opinion is just superior and you can end a story half way through.

Forza took PGR for xbox and smashed it with sledge hammer tho
-
11-16-2005 #23AlemanGuest

Forza is a simulation racer. PGR2 is arcadey. Although I agree, I'd rather play Forza. That game rocks.

That game is too arcadish to be called a racing sim, I'd rather play Burntout: Revenge if I wanted to play an arcade-like game.

Well just cause you don't like it doesn't mean it's broke... the gameplay is solid.
