The "I don't need blu ray whiners!!" Here is another reason to own a PS3

Here is a perfect example why you WOULD NEED a blu ray for next gen gaming

Double the Discs for Halo 3?
Official packaging shows two game discs for Halo 3.
    by Nix

June 8, 2007 - Sony's faith in PlayStation 3 as an evolutionary machine is partly based on the system's use of high-capacity Blu-Ray discs, as opposed to the standard DVDs that most systems use today. While developers on both sides have argued for or against the need for more than 9GB of available space to produce a game, a little bit of credence was given to Sony's claims with the release of the official box art of the Collector's Edition of Halo 3, expected to be amongst the most technologically complex games of this generation of gaming. The title looks to be shipping on two separate discs rather than just one DVD.

What does this mean for gamers? It means that if you want to experience all of the joy and fanfare of the eminent Halo 3, you will have to at least one time in your life get up off the couch and switch the discs in the disc drive!

But before you rush to the phone to cancel your pre-order, please know that we have so far only seen the split-disc set-up on the Collector's Edition, which counts three discs altogether with an extra bonus disc. (Also, rumor has it that Halo 3 will be a pretty good game.) It's possible that this Game Disc Two is extra material separated out from the main disc for a purpose. (Maybe this is extra bonus material or the game's multiplayer component? Or maybe disc 2 contains material that can be installed onto a HDD for those who have one and want one seamless session played with the key disc 1?) We haven't had a chance to talk with Microsoft on this issue, but we have calls in to confirm. Until then, take a gander at the Collector's Edition box art down below.
Microsoft "biggest" game is going to be on 2 discs because of it's crappy DVD can't hold more than 7 something gigs? Sorry I am not interested in interrupting my epic experience by switching to the 2nd disc to continue a story. Better Yet with blu ray having 50 gigs of space, that is so much space you can do many crazy graphics/textures/gameplay/text files size all on one disk to really create something "Epic" without switching to a 2nd disc to play the continue to play the game. It's so funny how people on my AIM tell me 360 has better games and PS3 is too expensive and they don't need a blu ray for next gen gaming, well ya let them wait a bit maybe their retarded brains will understand a value of a $600 and the most powerful game machine/blu ray player on a planet called earth.

Sorry I had to post this, I hate the Blu Ray naysayers and 360 xbots.

Coming Soon - PlayStation 4, Xbox 720, The Last of Us, Watch Dogs, God of War: Ascension, Gears of War: Judgement Day, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Knack, Assassins Creed IV: Black Flags

    I'm pretty sure this was

    1. Already posted in both sections

    and

    2. Debunked

My bad if this is a more recent article.

If anything single player campaign is on one disk and the stuff for multiplayer is on another disk.

Question, when was multiple disks ever really a problem? Movies do it, too.

There are 4 discs in FF8 and just as many in other japanese RPG's like arc the lad, etc. I've never had any complaints.

Let's not make something out of nothing, eh?

Where was it debunked?? How did IGN get an official photo then??

By my understanding the CE get a third disc with some more goodies in it, and the normal edition is still a 2 disc set.

*sigh* Not this whole DVD9 vs Blu-Ray argument again.

Not that I'm against it, it's just you get those banking on DVD9 software to to magically compress 20-30GBs of data
and fit it on one disc.

That is the first part of the argument.

When that fails, the "rebuttal" is that "since when did changing discs become a bad thing". Which I find perfectly fine, because I do not remember anyone saying it was. However, in this day and age, do you honestly think that is a convenient thing to do?

I guess the point is, there are certain luxuries we have become accustomed to. If we have to revert to certain things, then so be it. But if we get the opportunity to move forward, and make things easier, why fight it just because it's not what your console has?

that was the past of course when concerning FF8. the 360 and the PS3 champion themselves as the leaders of the next gen and HD era so why does the 360 use a media format that is half as old as me?

with your view on the situation, Can you imagine playing Final Fantasy X or for that matter MGS 4 on CD-Rom format?

Blu-Ray is great for movies but even more awesome for games

The problem is of course ppl want a game to come straight outta the oven already using the entire space on Blu-Ray to justify the new format (pardon me but did The Bouncer or Summoner and Dead Or Alive 2: Hardcore use the entire space on DVD-Rom when it first came out?)

    that's my $ 0.02 on the situation

Since when has taking 10 seconds to switch discs once in a 16 hour experience been a huge deal?

No doubt Blu Ray is unnecessary; so far there has been no reason to include it.
It has it's benefits yes, and one of the main reasons *I* even bought a PS3 but it certainly is not required for gaming.
If you want to know why so many people think it's stupid and a bad decision, look at the price. Your average joe cannot simply afford to drop $850 CDN (USD is not far off now) after taxes on a gaming machine.

Blu Ray will likely be pushed aside within 2-3 years for Digital distribution, so what then?
It's great for people who are looking for the HD experience, but that maybe accounts for only 3/10 people out there.

Game disc one - Game disc two

What do you guys suppose this means?? The campaign is split, MP is on both.

If it was SP and MP on seperate discs, why doesn't it say "SP DISC" and "MP DISC"?

Simply not true. You really think Microsoft would allow an in-house game with the popularity of Halo to be on 2 disks and prove they were wrong in using DVD-9?

cdawson, Digital Distribution will never come true until REALLY fast Broadband speeds come in, and it very likely that BD will be in full use before those speeds come in.

If Epic yanked at Ms's gonads about the 256 memory on the 360 then Bungie is capable of anything then

Blu-Ray is like electric windows in cars, it's a nice addition, but we all know you could eassily wind it down youself. Just like how all through time people have gotten up to change discs and even change games.

I've never really liked DVD as a format, all round it's a lil dodge, So for me i welcome Blu-Ray with open arms.

Digital Distribution won't be happening anytime soon buddy, ever downloaded a movie from LimeWire or Bit torrent? takes hours or days (thats just standard definition kids) that's simply a pipe dream if you think that in 2 or 3 years it possible (lets try rewiring the whole USA so EVERYONE has fiber optic then it seems more possible)

Yes! Thank you! But today people will B*TCH or at the least SIGH/Moan when there are no electric windows.

The same will happen when Halo 3 comes out on 2 discs (3 for the CE), and Lair, HS, LBP, MGS4, come out on only ONE Blu-ray disc.

Using Limewire and Bit torrent as examples of how DD will fail is ridiculous.

A business offering DD will have appropriate bandwidth.

But when Tens of Thousands of people will be downloading HD movies (which are AT LEAST 10 gigs each) you'll see the same thing happening there.

Don't forget that DD requires really fast speeds for Broadband users and it's something that costs alot, and that you have to keep paying for every month.

I didn't say fail (that's a wee bit extreme) but simply that download will take forever (doesn't the 360 offer DD in the market place and didn't that thing crash the first time it was offer when everyone tried downloading Superman Returns and took about a hour or so to bring everything back to normal?)

DD won't really take off till the infrastructure is more than capable to support it (that won't be for another few years) till then ppl will be more than okay having their movies available at their movie stores or whateva in a SOLID format

All I got to say is, who cares about Halo 3? I mean really, if its on one disc, two discs or four discs. I don't really care. Game will sell if its stuck on **** on a stick.

    It was debunked days ago...

Not that I would really care if it was 2 discs, that would have meant some wicked content.

    http://www.bungie.net/News/content.a...news&cid=12531

One of the tougher parts of this job is staying on top of the interwebs. Things change so quickly that actually keeping track of problems becomes a full-time job. This morning, for example, somebody (Claude from HBO) pings me and says, “Can you comment on Halo 3 being on two discs?”

“Eh!?” says I. “The game’s not done yet Claude, it could ship on one disc, it could ship on five flippin’ discs.”

“Yeah, but Amazon shows the collector’s edition has three discs, and two of them are game discs,” says Claude.

Sure enough, I go to Amazon and there it is, in full color. So, first off, let me clear it up for you:

The Collector’s Edition picture erroneously shows that it ships with a Bonus Content disc and a Game Two disc. Incorrect. It’s a mistake at MS’ end and we’re updating retailers with the correct image. The “Game Disc 2” shown in the art actually refers to an interactive Bonus Content disc. It’s an Xbox “executable” (think of it like a menu-driven disc, similar to the Official Xbox Magazine cover disc) and internally, has always been referred to as “Game Disc 2” because it has to go through the same certification process as Halo 3 itself. That was somehow communicated to MS retail marketing verbatim. Hence the error. No big deal.

The Legendary Edition comes with two extra discs. The “executable” interactive disc listed above, and a Bonus Content DVD – the one pictured incorrectly with the Collector’s Edition. Confused? No wonder.

The upside of that is the “Game Disc 2” itself. Because it’s an Xbox 360 disc and not a DVD, almost all of the content it contains is in hi-def (if your TV supports it). And some of the content is pretty spectacular. Now to clarify: Both premium editions, Collector’s and Legendary, come with the interactive disc. Only Legendary comes with the DVD.

The Collector’s edition includes a bound “art book” called the Bestiarum – a guide to the species and civilizations of the Halo Universe. Legendary Edition purchasers get an expanded multimedia version of the same material, with far more art and illustration, most of which has never been seen before and won’t appear anywhere else. And that’s built into the DVD Bonus Disc along with other materials.

Legendary also features an exclusive printed collection of storyboards from the game cinematics, by Bungie’s own Lee Wilson.

    Somebody lock this thread......
Games are like woman, what you might find attractive I might not, and none of us know if we really like them untill we have played around with them for a while.
