Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu has revealed the first details of Namco Bandai's Ridge Racer 7 for PlayStation 3.

As we reported earlier this week, the official Ridge Racer website suggested the game would be revealed this week, and it appears as though Famitsu has had the privilege of unveiling the first tidbits.

Ridge Racer 7's main mode, Ridge State Grand Prix, will feature 160 races spread over 44 tracks (or 22 played in the normal and reverse directions). The series seems to have caught up with competing racers such as Need for Speed by allowing customisation of cars as players progress through the game. The Machine Connector is the place to customise your car in its entirety.

The online component will support 14 players, in a variety of modes including relay and team battle.

Ridge Racer 7 will also take advantage of the PS3's online network platform for downloadable content. The UFLA Special Event is a mode that features events downloaded from Sony's online service.

And finally, there will also be a world rankings table, which will most likely be updated continuously over the online service.
