You'll need to buy a Network Adaptor, as well as the hard drive to play Final Fantasy XI. And yes, I believe a monthly fee is required.

EDIT: If you don't already have the game/adaptor/hard drive, then you can check this package deal here: http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/182338.asp

It's 100 bucks for all 3, which is a pretty good deal [if you have the dough].

On certan games that rely on on-line worlds, you will be charged for matinence of these on line worlds, but the PS2 network gameing service is free on most on line enabled games. if you have any more questions id be happy to answer them....

Oh and how come Europe dusnt get the hard drive, that sucks!

I know the PS2 service works free alongside your current internet connection, but Square-Enix charges a fee to play Final Fantasy XI.

It's $12.95, plus one dollar a month for each new character you decide to create or to play the Final Fantasy mini-game, Tetra Master.

The HDD sucks by the way ...it has NO SUPPORT IN THE US, and since it's release all of America's HDD Games have been taken off...In Japan HDD is not so bad as it is here, it has way more support and it also comes with a bb-navigator which allows them to go onto the internet and download things to there HDD....

In America no, in Europe it wouldn't even sell probably...

Maintenance fees? I guess, but you have to pay a buck for each new character you create, which kind of sucks. I don't like games that you can never really beat. Seems like an incredible waste of time. I also hate the fact that you jump to new worlds when you reach a certain skill level and if your friends are considerably lower or higher than you skillwise, you will NEVER get to play with them online.
