I have heard that the PSP may eventually have a digital TV tuner, has anyone else heard this or have confirmation of this?
The only other handheld I owned was the Sega GameGear, and a major reason was for the TV tuner ability.

That would be seriously cool if the PSP could tune into digital tv, but im not sure, HD - TV it take Japan and America by storm, and Europe has to stick the Crummy digital TV for another year or so... but it would be cool to be able to Acess free-to-air channels...

I have a Gamegear, and if I recall correctly the TV tuner on it allowed you to see your game on the TV not watch TV on the system.
In TV tuner do you mean being able to watch TV on the PSP or being able to play your PSP game on the TV?

I had a game gear with TV turner, and it allows TV to be displayed on your Game Gear.
This is what I am talking about with the PSP, although it is suppose to be a digital TV turneer and not an analog one, which is used with Game Gear. One high-profile developer who has seen both the PS3 and XBox 2 technology recentley whispered into my innocent ear, "The next PlayStation is way, way, more powerful than Xbox 2. yup

but the relevant text
"Sony Corporation today confirmed that its new “place-shifting” technology, allowing TV signals to be broadcast on laptops and portable flat-screen televisions via a BroadBand connection, will be made available on the Sony PSP.
The technology allows content stored at home to be accessed from remote locations via networked products. It’s believed that the system will be trailed throughout the US during the first half of 2005, essentially turning the multi-media format into a portable TV amongst many other features."
granted this is just the first source i found, but it certainly seems like they are going to try...There is always some madness in love. But there is also always some reason in madness. - Friedrich Nietzsche

but your tv would have to be networked, and to me all this seems to be way to much work.
Let me guess, you picked out yet another colorful box with a crank that I'm expected to turn and turn until OOP! big shock, a jack pops out and you laugh and the kids laugh and the dog laughs and I die a little inside.

I dont understand what you mean by too much work. The PSP has a WiFi connection and can setup an ad-hoc network just for games on its own. So all you would have to do is be in a hotspot to watch TV.

There was released a TV tuner thingy in the Net,cell ohone, broweser pathc that was for PSP, it was only beta and it didnt work, but it was said that you could use the Phone signal for TV use. and if you were stand in a circle of 100 feet from a hotspot you could also watch TV, and Sony was talking about makin the PSP able to hook up to the TV.

what i meant crysmg is that youd have to have your tv networked, and then sit within a certain distance of this, why not just watch your tv for cheaper(xtra cost of transmitting signal+charging PSP battery).
Let me guess, you picked out yet another colorful box with a crank that I'm expected to turn and turn until OOP! big shock, a jack pops out and you laugh and the kids laugh and the dog laughs and I die a little inside.

Well i don't really understand how this "Place shifting" technology works, but i know that if i could sit in a bus terminal and watch TV on the same machine that i was just playing GT4 on, i would buy that machine, and that would be a big selling point for me.

there would have to be a network somewhere giving off the signal so you could recieve it though.

Crimson_King - you are correct that there would have to be a network providing the network connectivity to view TV given this example of ability to connect view TV on your PSP. what crysumng is saying is that if that network was avilable where he worked, or where I work ect.. then this idea would be a good thing.
I am still thinking there may be on OTA (over the air) based digital reciever add-on for the unit, but I guess we will have to wait to see.
If the PSP still offers TV via Wi-Fi connection though, that is better then not offering it, and I think PSP may help Wi-Fi networks to build up a little more. Having TV avilable on same game unit is a big seller for me as well, if this thing can play games, MP3's and watch TV on it as well, then man it will definitley be a big seller, not to mention watching movies ect...One high-profile developer who has seen both the PS3 and XBox 2 technology recentley whispered into my innocent ear, "The next PlayStation is way, way, more powerful than Xbox 2.
