Impressive, I would of bought one, but I want to invest in the dominant next-generation platform, which still seems undecided.

I'm not into the whole "next generation" of movie watching thing be it Blu-Ray or HD DVD. I could care less about either, but good for them if it helped the sales.

HD movies are expensive at this point and the selection (well locally here for Blu-Ray) is pretty unappealing but the image quality from the PS3's Blu-Ray player is staggeringly good, as is HD DVD I would imagine. It's worth a look in.

I wonder how this will effect long term software sales.

I would hope everyone that bought one, has the elite. What is HD without 1080p?

I was looking at these the other day in a store, and concidered running them through VGA.
But I only watch a movie once and then I'm done with it, so it all seems like a waste atm.

    Wow, they sold 100 units. :P j/k

Good job, Microsoft, on keeping up the good fight. Maybe they can sway some support their way on the HD-Dvd side with these sales.

Ugh... I wish people would stop using Amazon as a benchmark of how well something is selling. It is not a good representation at all.

Don't mean jack unless you know what stock they had before.

Likewise unless you know how many units amazon were selling, a 1000% increase could be 20 units.

I have a hdtv and the high def stuff is great and all that, gaming in particular... but the other day I watched a regular DVD upscaled on 360 and it looked amazing. DVD aint going anywhere anytime soon and by the time it dies downloadable content will be the norm.

I doubt it will make any difference at all really, 1000% for a $20 price drop? Sounds to me like its gone from basically none to a moderate amount. It just doesn't seem likely that a $20 would make that much difference in quantity.

It's actually $20 as well as the 5 free HD DVDs from the selection, but yeah I agree.

Ahh, and it has 5 free HD-DVD movies with it? That sounds like Amazon trying to remove their HDDVD stock if you ask me.

*Explosive SIGH!* Seriously...why are people STILL being fooled that you need HDMI for 1080p? Both Component and VGA are quite capable of the required bandwidth for 1080p...

Anyway, that's the A/v-phile in me being quiet....for now.

considering they sold like NONE in the last month selling 5-10 more would equal a 1000% increase so who cares..

HD-DVD is dead been dead just clearing out stock, and those who think otherwise are plain and simple hoping hd-dvd does something dramatic but with almost EVERY major retailer stocking on BLU-RAY players on shelves starting August and everyone basically expect universal supporting the format its over..

    on a side note:

PS3 80GB sales increase 5,685% at Amazon does that mean Blu-Ray is better?

1080i and 1080p contain the exact same amount of detail at 24fps in the case of movies, unless of course your TV fails at proper de-interlacing.

Sure VGA does 1080p, thats fine and good. But, the problem with component 1080p is that almost no TVs do 1080p over component, because of copy protection or something. So, to almost everyone out there, 1080p Component IS NOT existent.

Also, just deinterlacing a 1080i image to 1080p is not the same. It's line doubling, because 1/2 the data is still missing. Thats like saying 480i (SD cable broadcasts) is the same as 480p (DVD quality) because it was line doubled. I know I took out the fact that OTA/cable is compressed and all, but to simplify it this much is fine. Your eyes see 2x as much detail in 1080p v 1080i because all the lines appear at once, providing a 40"+ TV w/ good viewing distance. It's real obvious that 1080p provides 2x as much details, because 1080i is only 1/2 the image in alternating lines.

I've seen both Blu-Ray and HD DVD and I don't care for either. Sure it looks good but I don't really care.

Then what would be said about the 5 free Blu-Ray movie giveaway? Trying to get rid of their stock?

Downloading games is another issue. By the time that becomes a reality (if at all) I'd expect broadband speeds that make a 25gb download painless.

Movie downloads are here and now, with 720p material already on xbox live... in a few years from now it could well be as popular as downloading songs from itunes is today.
