Ever made the mistake of leaving your car unlocked?

Forlorn lover leaves huge diamond ring in unlocked car
    December 15, 2005

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. --An anonymous gift-giver, apparently depressed over a lost love, left a $15,000 diamond engagement ring in somebody's else's unlocked car in a commuter parking lot.
The ring came in a box topped with a white bow and accompanied by a note, which read: "Merry Christmas. Thank you for leaving your car door unlocked. Instead of stealing your car I gave you a present. Hopefully this will land in the hands of someone you love, for my love is gone now. Merry Christmas to you."

A 37-year-old Northborough man found the three-diamond, white gold ring on the seat of his car, which he had parked at the MBTA train station in Westborough on Dec. 7, The MetroWest Daily News of Framingham reported Thursday.

He called police to report the find four days later, after he had the ring appraised.

"This appears to be random, but we don't really know," said police Lt. Paul Donnelly.

Police declined to identify the man. A police report said he had decided to keep the ring.
Finding a $15,000 ring in your unlocked car... What is the world coming to?

Well at least they were nice thieves. I would rather my rims, sound system, Ipod and TV's be stolen then my CD collection. It would take forever to recollect all the CD's I own.

And that is why you rip the tracks from your cds and make copies, leaving your originals at home. It's even better when you get the new stereos that play .mp3s, thus you can stick 100-150 of your songs on one cd.

I don't bring CD's with me anymore because of my fear of them getting stolen. I have a dock for an Ipod in my car so I just use my Ipod.

I never leave my car unlocked before, but I did leave my car on for 5 hour while I was working. I didn't know until I got off work and I couldn't find my key.

I've never done it. But if I did they can only steal a can of Kerns Guava nectar or a blanket. hum. and CDS. I'd beat the shit outta someone if they seriously tried to steal my CDS.

I have catalogue all my CDs, if I lose one then I'll know which one it is. I guess I'm a little too organized.

Man that's kind of a really sucky and happy story at the same time. I would probably keep that ring and save it til I can actually give it to somebody whom I really love. You know, honor his request.

I once left my moms car keys on the car door for about four or five hours. We only missed it when we were ready to go home.

But saying that, it was while we lived in Libya for a bit and there aren't that many criminals there.

Well there are but you can tell them form a mile away. They usually have one hand.

If i pass by an unlocked car in the parking lot i open their door a little bit, kinda like a lesson. "Remember to lock your doors!"

I never left my car unlocked, but.........I had my car broken into, which was locked. I made the mistake of parking in a dark parking lot.

No offence man but that's a dumb thing to do, if you're observant but not a criminal, you see a door is unlocked and open it yeah? So then a criminal comes along but isn't very observant, there is way more chance he would see the door is open rather than if he would see the door is unlocked, so maybe it's giving people who don't lock their doors a lesson, but you're basically giving criminals way more chance to notice an unlocked car.

Plus if all they have done is go into a shop for a second, you never know

Wow. What a random, depressing story. I never thought something like that would just happen out of the blue.

I guess the guy saw the ring as a representation of his love for this girl, as he's lost the love he sees no point of having the ring in his possession anymore, this guy must have been a really caring person to give the ring away instead of selling it.

Lawl.. must have been suicidal. $15000 would have bought enough alcohol to piss the memory of her away.. and also enough alcohol to kill his brain cells so he wont have any memory at all!
