What do you think the future will hold for online gaming? Do you think the PS3 will support it? and send in some ideas for great online games.
I personally think The PS3 will develop a specific online function/network to play online games on that have no lag and so on. This would be official to sony so microsoft can be bown away by our pure internet speed!

Nice double post. Don't do it again. Just use the edit button.
This questions came up alot of times and yea of course the PS3 should support online play.. Because on the PS2 it became a standard. I would rather want it for free. So I wouldn't have to worry about when my subscription would end and stuff. So I don't really like to pay but it's all up to Sony."This life is not real. I conquered the world and it did not bring me satisfaction." -Muhammad Ali

they have to have online, cause if they dont then im not buying a ps3 or any other customer since even revolution will have an online play. it would be a great idea to make it free because that way it would put pressure on all the other counsel companies making it free for everybody.
I am not bothered by the fact that I am unknown. I am bothered when I do not know others.

I hope it's dial-up compatible.

02-13-2005 #6I don't, even though I am stuck with dial-up, if PS3 online allowed dial-up users it would just lag all the servers and ruin it for everyone else. I am just going to wait until hopefully april just to get more "information" about when high speed is coming to my areaI hope it's dial-up compatible.

I truly doubt that any console game will support dial up. XBox Live didn't support it, and even several PS2 games are broadband only. The ones that have dial up compatibility also have it on a very limited basis like 2-4 players.

I think for PS2 that a lot of the online games do support dial up, but like I said earlier those games severly limit the number of players and options while using dial up.
I also beleive that Sony will come out with a subscription service for the PS3 since XBox Live was pretty much the only thing that saved the XBox. I beleive that they will keep a competitive price for service with Microsoft which will lower prices for both services since they wil be in direct competition with each other.

The thing about lag is that it's usually not because of the game server, but rather the individual player's latency and internet speed. So there isn't a "one super server fix all" kind of scenario. Just take a look at XBox Live, even XBox Live with it's high speed server lags sometimes.

Even the worst DSL is significantly faster than dial-up. Dial-up lag is inevitable when there's many things going on in the game.

Why cant sony have one specific server? You pay say 5 pound amonth(dont critise sony needs money
) and for that you connect your PS3 to the internet and its all done over the internet(like those free online games you find) it then directs the users internet speed to games that have the same speed. Everyone is happy

i disagree with having to pay to play online. one of the great things about playing playstion 2 online is that it is free. i think that Sony would sell more PS3 if their online play was free. think - you can play X Box live for a price or PS3 online that is just as good or better - which would you pick

The PS2 Online doesn't have nearly as many features as Xbox Live. Sony doesn't have to give the consumer as much when they provide their service for free. I wouldn't mind paying a small fee every month if Sony gave us a whole load of new online features for PS3.

I don't get what's so great about XBox Live. Sure, talking with a friend who's not even playing the SAME game is nice, but is it necessary? I think not. Online score tables are nice... but it seems to be more or a tidious chore than anything useful. All in all, I don't mind PS Online the way it is -- Free.

I read somewhere that there creating a online network that utilizes the broadband modem. I wouldn't be surprised, if the PS3 is online right out of the box.

Well i think everybody is pretty much expecting that at this point. After talk of wireless connectivity, it would make sense that actually literally, once you take it out of the box and plug it in it will be on line.

i agree with munky, and i think something like $50 a year aint bad. good online gaming is worth paying for. theres alot more benefits than ppl think. Like with MS handling the dirty work with servers and stuff, developers wont have to worry about providing there own online gaming. Which leaves more money and time for development. That way thier could be a larger amount titles with online support. Sony just leaves it up to developers to handle it. I hope they have something planned. It would be cool if they teamed up with someone like cisco systems or rackspace to help them with online service

I like Onlinegaming, of course, at this time Im addicted to WoW, but i think, a great Soloplayer Game with great Story etc., is always better than and Onliegame.
Im Sure, the PS3 allowing the Onlinegaming, but at this time, please with a HDD, Broadband Adaptor etc. at the beginning IN the PS3^^
At the beginning of the PS3 Rumors, there was an special Rumor which afraid me! The Rumor said, theres only one Way to buy Games...Online! Without Case and Manuals, just download and finish. Im Happy, thats this just was an rumor!!!!Letīs Rock, Letīs Play!

20GB PS3: price cut & upgrade
During the Q&A portion of Ken Kutaragi's keynote speech at TGS earlier today, the creator of PlayStation announced that the 20GB model will now feature an HDMI port.
Originally, only the 60GB configuration included an HDMI connection, something which baffled many since Sony is such a strong supporter of copy protection.
Kutaragi also announced a price cut. The 20GB version will cost 49,980 yen (EUR 335 / GBP 225), down from 62,790 yen (EUR 421 / GBP 283).
It is unclear if these changes apply to the 20GB model outside of Japan.
Sony will have 200 playable PS3 units at TGS, which ends on Sunday 24th September.
We'll keep you up to date.
