just wondering. i mean now eveyone has HD, but who has surround sound to complete the package? i have an HD TV but no surround sound (mainly because the HD TV is in my room which is really small). but my dad who has a bigger and better HD TV actually sprung for the complete package, HD-TV, surround sound, HD-DVR and DVD recorder. everything!
so just wondering, what kind of a setup do you have at your house?
also i just want to say a few summers ago i was staying with my dad, but he was having his house remodeled so he rented out another house (you know those things where someone goes for a vacation so they rent out thier house, or it's thier own vacation/summer house whic they rent out the rest of the year) it was a house boat in sausolito, and it was awsome!
the couple that owned the place worked in computers so they knew what they were doing. theier bedroom was completley hooked up! they had an HD projecter and a motorized screen with surround sound speakers that would you can feal upstairs when they were played (remeber this is a house bot, so it shakes a lot easier). he had these wierd speaker that the bottom looked like a normal speaker, but the sound didnt come from it, it came from a metal grid that was on the speaker looking box. the wierd thing is there was nothing behind ythe grid, the first time i saw it, it was so creepy. i am pretty sure the bottom part vibrates the top so it makes sound. anyway all this is controlled by a computer in the small office to the left. and in the bedroom they have a reciever for a remote control mouse, and they were a walk away from best buy (it was so perfect) and every week they bought a few DVD's from best buy when they were on sale for $10, so when i was there they must of had a few thousand DVD's literally (couldnt have benn more than 3,000). this is the perfect setup eveyone should aim for! just wanted to share this with someone.
just wanted to say, i am so sorry i forgot to mention DLP prrojection screens. thye are the best on the market and you can get a 50" screen that supports 1080p for $3,600. my dad is moving, and will probably end up getting one. for a link just go to http://www.joystiq.com , they have ads on every page which makes sense since they are a video gaming news blog, DLP is a good choice to support (or be supported by). again, so sorry i forgot to mention this.

Only in America does everyone have HD.
I know next to nobody in Britain with HD at the moment. My family will be picking one up whenever Sky TV launch their HD service, which will be Feburary '06. We will probably get one in the summer, for the availability of 1080p.

Re: What kind of setup you have with your TV?
Metacore, you have to stop with your naive statements and assumptions. Not everyone has HD at all, not even in the US where it has been available for some years. Here in the UK/Europe, such capable TVs have only just started going on sale in any kind of meaningful number. It would be fair to say that more people here have surround sound than HDTV.

No HDTV here either, in fact I have a mere 21" CRT, as I can't cope with any larger-sized screens right now. But I will eventually go for a flat panel HDTV, but that could be a couple of years away. I only hope the PS3 won't penalise us non-HDTV owners, like the XB360 apparently seems to, as seen by the over-dark game: "Kong".
The rest of my setup is pretty reasonable however, mainly focussing on good sound:
Sony 6.1 Receiver with DTS-ES (96/24), Prologic II
6 extended definition satellite speakers and a 200W active sub
5 disc carousel DVD player

I am going HD in a month or so in January when stores are trying to move inventory. However, I will not go surround sound because I live in an apartment. I am transferring to a diff college and will move into a dorm so I am just going to stick with HD movies on my HTPC. I will probably just buy some wireless Sennheiser headphones to simulate as much as I can. This TV is going in my bedroom by the way. Sharp Aquos LC-32D6U

This setup is relatively inexpensive, while still providing awesome audio quality, and amazing surround sound.
PM me and I'll give you some links to the equipment I have, and pics of my setup.

i agree. sound makes ALL the difference. after having very good surround sound for about 3 or 4 years now it is almost painful to watch a dvd off tv speakers. im getting an HDTV for my room which is EXTREMELY small so high quality expensive speakers with an amp is not a huge deal. i am looking at some klipsh thx computer speakers that I have listened to at best buy that are about $150. but will the ps3 have an audio out for computer speakers? along with those i am savig for the samsung 23" LCD tv. but i have some questions about LCD. I have heard that they need to have lamps replaced. do they have burn in? or is that just plasma? any info would help.

12-24-2005 #12You can play the PS3 on your computer's speakers, but that depends on your sound card. If you have sound input, then you'll definately be fine. Also some high end speakers come with auido inputs, but if you had this, I am sure you would already be aware of it. Don't worry about replacing LCD tv lamps, they last a really long time. And after lets say the 5-10 years it MIGHT take to burn out the lamp, a new one will not be so expensive. Also, LCD as well as DLP tv's don't burn in unlike plasmas. This makes them a great choice for gaming.

The ones that are below a thousand dollars aren't even really HD. just EDTV, which is a rip off.
Not everyone has that kind of money just to give for a TV with a sharper picture. But, I heard that HD is standard in Japan right now, though.Next-Gen Console Fund: $15.10

I've had my 51" widescreen HDTV for just about four years now. I bought it really cheap as a friend worked for Sony at the time and its done really well. It was the first Sony HD widescreen rear-projection tv. Ofcourse now, you can get them a dime a dozen. Infact, sony doesn't even make these TVs anymore.
Unfortunately, no audio setup yet but a digital cable box, DVD and a PS2 are hooked up to it. And surprisingly, no burn-in effect from PS2 yet.

[LIVE] Potential new Call of Duty 4 modes
We've got some news on four possible new modes for the most popular game on the PlayStation Network, Call of Duty 4. Robert Bowling, the Community Manager for development studio Infinity Ward, outlined a few modes that he and a select few community members tested this weekend. If he and Infinity Ward decide they're worthy, they'll make the game types into a new playlist update for the game. The modes are as follows:
Bare-bones Team Deathmatch
No more excuses. No more blaming Martyrdom or Juggernaut for your lack of skills and kills. Bare-bones Team Deathmatch eliminates the excuses and takes it back to basics with standard Team Deathmatch with no perks, no kill streak rewards. Just you, your skill, and your weapons.
Hardcore HQ
Hardcore HQ requires a lot more than just spamming the HQ position with nades and running in guns blazing. Hardcore HQ encourages more tactical gameplay and communication to win with increased damage, no HUD elements, and friendly fire on.
Multi-bomb Search and Destroy
Multi-bomb Search and Destroy starts every member of the attacking team with a bomb. So everyone has the opportunity to plant if they’re good enough.
Hardcore FFA
Even faster paced Free For Alls, where every bullet counts and playing smart is key for a solid k/d ratio. Standard Free for All rules, with Hardcore mode enabled for extra damage, no HUD, and no health re-gen.
There you have it, all four game types as detail by Bowling. Which of these modes do you most want to see in an update for the game?I think PS3 should have a built in memory card!!!

Well, happily this is one of those threads which age well.

My current setup is a 40W4000 with ps3, x360 and Acer aspire one linked on it.
Acer works as a main media platform and a file server.
I live in a flat so I don't 'need' proper sound system, if I want proper sounds I use my headphones. (Sennheiser HD600)
