Source: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gen...topic=25333086"All the major characters from the first film aside from the villains are back," according to a studio insider. "Two additions to the cast of 'good guys:' Harvey Dent and Sarah Essen (an ATF agent)."
Also, "[The] Joker will be in this film, although he will be just one of several major villains" and "The Joker. I won't spoil things for you but those expecting an exact translation of [the Character] from the comics, in terms of costume, you will be disappointed. However, let may say that this Joker will be the 'The Joker;' the way character is written is very faithful to [how] he is in the comics and I can see why WB is not interested in actors like Crispin Glover or Johnny Depp."
And, "I won't reveal all the villains, but I'll leave a few hints that the avid comic fan should be able to decipher," the source says. “One will be an ambiguous mob boss with ties to the late Dr. Thomas Wayne. Another will be an industrial heir not unlike Bruce Wayne - in fact it could be said that he is a dark mirror of Bruce. Over the course of the story, he will be forced to present a new 'face.' And then we have a small, almost cameo type [appearance by a] villain who is considered a 'classic rogue' as a British arms dealer. It may sound a bit crowded, but it all fits together, makes sense, and works much like a comic story arc."
"As for the villains plot, the mob boss and the heir get involved with a major arms deal with the 'British Guy,' while Batman and his allies attempt to foil it," the source says. [As a result,] they uncover more of the corruption plaguing Gotham. Unfortunately for both sides, nobody knew there was a Joker in the deck who complicates matters."
Comic book fan rumor we heard over the Turkey Day holiday has it that the Joker in the Batman Begins sequel won't be zany and clowny but rather, in keeping with the tone of director Chris Nolan's films, will be dark and frightening with a broad smile under his wide-brimmed hat.
According to our sources, the Joker will be an x-factor in the Gotham crime scene, sometimes acting against the Batman and sometimes acting against the Mob still taking orders from the League of Shadows.
Meanwhile, the Penguin is rumored to be a Russian arms dealer working with Gotham gangsters. No word on the imminent return of the Scarecrow.
Two things I'm worried about.
The Joker needs to be dark but who said he still can't be "clowny?"
The second point, I hope Katie Holmes makes a return to finish off her character for continuity sake, I didn't really care for her in the movie but they need to explain why she may or may not be returning in the movie.
Black Mask is looking like a really good candidate for one of those descriptions.

12-25-2005 #3I don't think they should have used Holmes either but what's done is done, now that she accepted for Begins she better be in Begins 2 to help put closure to her character. Personally, I hope Rachel Dawes is killed off by the Joker but that's just me.

I have some pretty wild ideas for who they're going to put in as Bruce Wayne's opposite.
Lex Luthor! With the superman craze going on they're going to start doing crossover comic book stories!
And major arms dealer...
Jack Krauser! From RE4!!! get it Arms? heehee oh I am so good.
.
I was a little worried by having Katie Holmes in the first Batman Begins, but she actually did her role pretty good. I wonder if they're actually going to put in [spoiler:5ee0abdbd7]Gordon's Daughter as Batgirl[/spoiler:5ee0abdbd7] somewhere down the line.
Storywise it looks good, christopher Nolan's group is made up of huge batman freaks of the comic series, I'm expecting everything good.

Luthor would be a good guess except that it's almost known it's Black Mask, someone came up with the theory that since the Batman Begins series seems to have a theme the second one is probably about "Masks."
The Joker has a mask on, Bats is trying to identify himself, whether he's more Bats or Bruce, and Black Mask would work great as a "Bruce mirror."
Penguin, the Russian arms dealer, "masks" his crimes when he does it.
It all fits together, the person that came up with this explaining it better but you probably get the jist of it.
Also,
[spoiler:59dc1ef024]
I doubt Batgirl will appear anytime soon since she was a baby in Begins, I know that Batgirl and Robin are around the same age and Nolan said that while he worked on the series he wouldn't include Robin.

I knew who those characters were destined to be, I was just satarizing how Hollywood would screw things up with how they feel is the way to draw a crowd.
[spoiler:7d5f3e5619]If he does include Robin, somehow, I hope he goes ahead and makes him the exact same way he was in the comics, costume and all. He had his own complex storyline as well.[/spoiler:7d5f3e5619]
