    Ps2 Component Cables??

Hey i recently purchased this tv:

    http://www6.sears.ca/webapp/wcs/stor...ctId=158412449

I was just wondering if it was worth buying PS2 component cables to get a 480p resolution. I have a few games that'd support progressive scan.. SOCOM 3 is mostly the reason why I'd buy them for online. And finally i have the fat version of the PS2.

My qeustions are.. Is it worth it? Will my tv run it properly? What settings do i need to set on the tv and ps2? Do i need the slim version of the Ps2 to use it properly?

    Thanks

Surround Sound Funds: Bought one with my PS3 funds:P

    Games i'm getting at launch:
    - Army of Two
    - Call of Duty 3

Hey I don't have your answer here but if you have not already posted this in the HD-TV sticky in the ps3 section I would advise you to do so. I think you will find this thread most helpful with questions regarding tv's and HD-Tv's.

I was wondering the same thing about some of the questions (actually, just whether or not it was worth it), as I too have an HDTV but don't have the component cables. But I can still answer a few questions of your questions:

Will my TV run it properly?

Yes, it will run normal as long as you hook up the cables in the correct inputs. And even if you don’t, the TV itself won’t get damaged; it will just display the picture incorrectly.

What settings do i need to set on the tv and ps2?

As long as your TV supports 480p (or any higher) you won’t need to change any settings (on your TV). On your PS2, however, you will have to change the settings. You’re going to have to change the setting for each game individually at the menu/settings of the game. If you can't find the option in the menu/settings, then most likely the game doesn’t support it.

Do i need the slim version of the Ps2 to use it properly?

    no

What settings do i need to set on the tv and ps2?
On the back of the component cables (I use the PS2 brand too) box there is a small area for instructions.

Before putting them in use the normal composite cables (yellow, red, white) and turn on the PS2 without a disc in the tray, and enter the same menu where you change the system clock and stuff. One of the selections will be about component cables, make sure they're not set to R,G,B but the other setting, (It has a lot of Ys in it). The default mode is the correct one. Afterwards turn off the machine, and plug in your new cables.

Depending on what model PS2 you have it may have something under Progressive scan in that menu and it will turn it on automatically (SCPH-50001 models and above), if you don't then you'll have to do an extra step before starting a game in P scan.

To play games in progressive, you'll have to hold down the "X" and the Triangle buttons during startup (When the Playstation 2 logo appears on the screen). Then it'll ask you if you want to see the game in Progressive mode, you can handle it from there. You'll have to do this every time you start a game.

Also don't worry about the TV most of the newer sets will do it automatically, and I see yours is 720p.

BTW I have an SCPH-30001 Got it since launch day.
    All praises to the Playstation!

haha thanks a bunch, answered everything i was wondering bout. I might buy the component cables 2morrow than I have had my 30001 since about a month or two after launch... i didn't have enough wen it was launched:P

EDIT: i got the cables, followed the precedure and got it working Looks awesome! I couldn't get the message to come up when i held the "x" and "triangle" buttons but i turned the progressive setting ON in the options menu and it did the same thing.

I am going to buy my hdtv today and get component cables also. I am so freaking pumped about it! I know the difference won't be much, but I think I will appreciate anything to help games like Xenosaga II.

ya.. the component cables don't make the game LOOK like a million dollars.. don't get me rong, it looks much better than composite cables, but the real difference i found was how smooth the game ran. I didn't realize how choppy it must have been until i got the progressive scan, feels and plays MUCH better!
