I got my PS2 predominantly because of Final Fantasy X but Metal Gear Solid 2 was also a good reason, I wanted to continue the franchises that I had played on the PS1. We got a PS1 because that seemed like the cool new device I think and with Crash, Spyro, FF7-9, MGS and Gran Turismo were what made me a fan of the Sony consoles when I was a kid.

Not to mention Def Jam: Fight for NY and the various other load, now i am on the PS3 and not looking back! Its good to have them old consoles and games in my memory.

Good ol' Final Fantasy Tactics for me. That, and Final Fantast VIII.

We initially bought a Dreamcast in 2000, but the PS2 quickly demolished it in terms of popularity and support, so we just had to get one. We didn't get it for any particular game though.
However, I bought a PS3 solely for FFXIII and MGS4.

The Matrix and Beach Bandits were two that I played the majority of my PS2 time, as well as GTA San Andreas.

I played a lot of spyro on ps1 an ridge racer I still feel that team an sponsor system is perfect.
On ps2 my first game was enter the matrix. The early need for speeds were amazing with most wanted being the last good one. The bouncer was a great game also I beat it multiple times. Then there was shadow of the Colossus my number one game of the whole ps2 generation.

Definitely a tie between MGS3 and God of War II for me. Those games were beyond epic, in terms of looks and gameplay.
I don't really need a water cooler/remote control as of right now.

Best PS2 game?
That's a tough one, because there are so many good ones. IMO, the PS2 ties with the PS1 for having the best game library ever.
My absolute favorite PS2 game is probably Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song. Awesome game. My other favorites include:
MGS2 and 3
Zone of Enders 2. This game is awesome. If you've never played it, I feel sorry for you. You missed one of the great ones.
XenoSaga (all of them). Gameplay varied from fun to interesting to meh, but the story can't be beat.
Tales of the Abyss. Defines epic.
Persona 3 and 4. They are Persona games. Need I say more?
Devil May Cry 1 and 3. Some of the greatest action games ever made. #2 dropped the ball, but #3 recovered and scored nicely.
Blood Rayne 2. Great game. Full of glitches, but a very, very fun game nevertheless.
Onimusha (1, 2 and 3. Never got to play Dawn of Dreams, but hoping to remedy that someday)
FFX-2: The story is braindead, but the gameplay is AWESOME.
Wild Arms 4: The HEX battlesystem was one of the funnest battlesystems I've played in a long time. And I loved the characters.
Rogue Galaxy. A motley crew of fun characters, an entertaining storyline and fun/engaging gameplay.
There are just too many to list. I'm sure I've left some out.Shinei!

My fav PS2 game? DESTROY ALL HUMANS!!!
Absolutely hilarious, good gameplay, awesome graphics, huge maps and loads of the to do/unlock and just general hilarity :P
Other than that, Need for Speed Underground 2 was pretty don and you could complete it in a chavved up Pug 106 with a gash bodykit, 20inch rims, epilepsy inducing neons (inside and out) and massively dodgy stickers all over it :P

There were lots of good games back then. Off the top of my head I'd go with:
FFX
Prince Of Persia (all 3)
Splinter Cell (1 & 2)
[EDIT]Just read a few posts and they reminded me of more games.
KH 1
God of War 1 & 2 (although I played them until they came out for the PS3)
Grandia 2 (although I played it originally on the Dreamcast)Last edited by mikeghtmare; 09-20-2011 at 23:51.

PS2 had many great games, don't know which i'd name as the best but, the God of War's game were pretty awesome.
Zone of the Enders 2 was a wonderful game too, haven't played many game where you control mecha but this one got to be the best of them all, this game was a blast and i'll definitively jump on the HD remake.

Without a doubt SOCOM 1/2. Oh what's that? Method Man, Wu Tang Clan, and Tiger Woods didn't play your game? That's because they were too busy playing SOCOM.

Ahh I could go on hours listing games that left an unforgettable print from the PS1 and PS2 eras.
But I'll list anything that comes to my mind:
FFVII
FVIII
FFIX
FFX
FFXI
Legend of Dragoon
Grandia II
Legend of Legaia
Wild Arms 1/2
Tales of Destiny
ICO/SoTC
Suikoden II/III
Kolonoa
Tomb Raider I/II/III/IV
Parasite Eve I/II
Star Ocean I/II
Dark Cloud II (Yes, I didn't play the first one.)
Valkyire Profile
Parappa The Rapper/Um Jammer Lammy
Bust-A-Move (The dance game)
Time Splitters: Future Perfect
Silent Hill I/II/III
La Pucelle: Tactics
Metal Gear Solid II (The only MGS I played AND finished.)
Time Splitters II (Though I played the GameCube version.)
Shadow of Destiny
DDRMAX1/2: Dance Dance Revolution
Brave Fencer Musashi
Unreal Tournament
Tsugunai: Atonement
Alundra
Medievil
Legend of Mana
Breath of Fire III
Grandia II
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete
Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars
Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror
Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon
Discworld II (This game is just...miraculous.)
Gex
Time Gal
Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure
Thousand Arms
Yes I didn't play any of the Xeno-games, including Xenogears. Also Chrono Trigger/Cross.
And I'm pretty sure I've missed listing hundreds of games.
Really, my heart aches everytime I see any image of the mentioned games or listen to any of their soundtracks. Such good times.Currently Playing: Harvest Moon (3DS)
Recently Completed: Parasite Eve I & II, Wild ARMs, Mario 3D Land, ICO & SoTC HD, Zelda: OoT 3D, VVVVVV, Gravity Rush

Got a PSOne for Resident Evil and Tekken 2 primarily. I was slightly late to the party with that console, since my bro had PSOne and I plumped for the Sega Saturn (laugh all you want but I don't regret it, horribly underrated platform)
As for PS2, I got that for Resident Evil Code: Veronica X and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Again though, I was a little later getting that as I went for a Dreamcast initially, and PS2 didn't really have much going for it at launch that interested me (especially when I had Shenmue to play!)
