Funny story: back when I was young and in middle school, I traded a Charizard card from that Pokemon trading card game to some chump for his PS1. Anyway, initially I didn't care about it but after I saw Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy VII in person, it became a much bigger deal to me.

I suppose Final Fantasy X pushed me into upgrading to a PS2. For a while, I couldn't find any PS2 memory cards in stores so I just had to play the first bit of the game over and over. I ended up not really even liking FFX. Getting the PS2 was obviously worth it, though. Especially once they started releasing the genre-defining stuff like Grand Theft Auto III and Resident Evil 4 (I never had a GameCube).

Come to think of it, it's kind of a weird cycle. Not unlike FFX and the PS2, I bought a PS3 mostly with just MGS4 in mind. I ended up not liking MGS4 very much either, but other games have made the purchase very much worth it.

I think this is an easy question.

    Tomb Raider
    Final Fantasy VII
    Metal Gear Solid

Those 3 games started something amazing for future games. Too bad the Final Fantasy series sucks ass now. It is almost like they all got together and said, "Hey, lets take was works great. And break the shit out of it!"

At first I'd say it's Resident Evil 4, but if I had to pick something that didn't come out first on another system, I'd probably go with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. Man, I sunk so many hours into that game.

A "Resident Evil 2" demo kiosk in KayBee Toys is the sole reason I bought a PS1 - I had to had to had to play that game. I already wanted a PS2 before its launch, but "SSX" is the game for which I absolutely had to buy the console in order to play.

I certainly didn't buy the system for it, but Grandia, the original (and the best in the series) is certainly one of my most influential games from the PS1 days. As Fijiandoce said, that game, it simply hasn't been done since. Absolute best game though, and easily worth buying any console it is on for, is Final Fantasy Tactics. Suikoden, Suikoden II, Wild Arms, Wild Arms 2, Legend of the Dragoon, Breath of Fire III, and of course the Final Fantasies are also in there.

Now that I've read your post, I'm intrigued to give Grandia a try. I've only played the second one on Dreamcast and it provided me with one of the best experiences I've had in video games. The original Grandia is available in the PSN which leaves me no reason not to purchase and play it.

Was the Fijiandoce quote toward FF: Tactics or Grandia?

fijiandoce was talking about Grandia. And I fully agree with him. I listen to people talking about how great Grandia II is. Some people love it more than the original Grandia. Personally, however, I find the original Grandia to be the best in the series.

The statement about Final Fantasy Tactics is my own. It's my favorite game of all time. I must admit, while I love the original the most, the PSP remake was pretty good. Some of the added classes are way too powerful, but the animated cutscenes are very welcome.

It has to be San Andreas for me as well, I sunk so many hours into that game and had so much fun.
I hope GTA V will be as good and hope they improve the multiplayer to make it really addictive.

    Bring on PlayStation 2013!

Twisted Metal: Black, FF X. There also was a mech game where you created one, and then would battle it out. I forgot the name of it but me and my friends played the hell out of that game.

Metal Gear Solid 1 on PS1 without a doubt! That game had it all, great graphics (for its time), great game-play, tremendous voice acting and a legendary narrative like only MGS games can deliver. For PS2 I have to say GTA3 because that was the first time ever an open world sandbox type game was created. Sandbox type games are everywhere these days but before GTA3, games followed a linear path with invisible walls.

Grandia seems very popular, and I completely agree! That was a fantastic JRPG.

Also, I saw a friend play Resident Evil when we were at his house. I was so jealous. I guess that was one of the reasons I had as well for getting a PS1.
