i have been thinking alot.
wondering what everyone else thinks.
im kind of glad that sony is in this situation.
because now there dropping the price like crazy.
if the $600 console was selling out
we would not have price drops.
when sony price drop ms price drop
isnt that a win win situation?
i dont work for sony or ms so i dont really care
im just wondering what everyone else thinks???

I think you're crazy. I don't care that much about the price of the consoles; what I want to see is widespread adoption so there's enough gamers to keep studios in business, and ideally, to make it possible for them to release more innovative games. So bad sales are pretty much awful.

Meh, whoever wins wins, it's no big deal to me. But I do have to agree with the guy above me, more sales means more money for devs, which means better games in the future.

like i said.
i dont care if ms or sony loses $50 or what ever on console.
price is the best thing about console.
now think about it.
if ps3 was outselling xbox360 from launch.
that means ms would have to do price cut.

Us? we're not winning nothing. I'm sure more fans-great games. That's the only thing.

Well actually, Sony would've still dropped the price regardless
they did it with both the Playstation & Playstation 2, the only difference is Sony bleeds more this way

No, not really
but a price drop is historically uncommon of Sony in the first year, thats what I mean
but yeah, the reason for the amount thats been dropped is because of sales, or because it has requested of them to do so
in other words, You win, Sony is bending over backwards for you
btw, I'm not actually referring to you LaOMaN

Other than Yankland the ps3 is selling pretty well. These pricedrops were predicted before the ps3 launched. Basically the PS3 was stacked full of cutting edge technology which was a year from maturing which meant the PS3 was ludicrously priced at launch. Sony never in a million years expected the ps3 to stay at $600 for long when the Xbox was far cheaper it would be suicide. $600 PS3 was just for the initial launch period. I would even say we'l see a $299 PS3 next spring and it will be profitable to Sony. These were always the plans.

Not exactly. WW price drop is historically uncommon. But price drops are quite common.
Japan started out at roughly $450 PS3(at the time of yen price) spring. Fall US launched at $300, this can be consider a price drop, as it was a new model. 001-003. Then japan got the 003 series in Winter, that was actually a little cheaper then us model after flushed out old model.
EU had a fast price drop of PS2.
And PS1 dropped pretty fast as well.
PS3 is a global thing. That's the only real difference, sorta. The price drop is deeper, but then this generation has BD's which has dropped a lot over a short period.
DVDs back then dropped much slower.
If anything the PS3 has the most bundling power of all its predecessors. Since it's market as a BD drive and a game machine, it's movie bundling is like no other.
When the 40gig $400 PS3 hits, it comes with [rumored SM3] and the continuation of the 5free movies program. That's almost a $100 value, if not taste wise. At least $60 if given $10 a movie is fair game even for a bad one.
So one can say this really does put it in a very low price range value package.

Blu Ray being expensive is just a timescale issue. Blu Ray is and will drop rapidly in price. The reason the PS3 was so expensive was because it was stacked with brand new technolgy. By the end of next year I expect the PS3 to be priced similiar to the xbox. It's what people fail to realize. This high pricing for the PS3 is just a short term issue.

Well let's just hope Sony is more...sentimental of EU this time
If it was region dropped, EU could have gotten the "shaft" again.
But since it's reported that each regional division is responsible for their own prices now, sending letters to SCEE should be a lot more responsive. haha

I agree with you, Seebs, and Halo sold at the top in Japan... The world is truly coming to an end.
Now get into discussions about what an "innovative" game is, and we may lose each other. But, yes, bad PS3 sales is bad for Sony and bad for us, because it's bad for the game studios.

It's funny and so MS like when it gets the crown, it still feels like no one is clapping.
Perhaps bad is good to make everyone try harder.
Competition :You lost to a console that sold 5k and a game selling 59k?
MS : The king of the backyard...gee...feels special...
Both should try harder it seems.

Alot of people on this board already have a PS3 so a price drop won't affect them. I'd say most people on here care more about the games being released and more consoles sold = more games from third party. So i'd say if you have a PS3 already it's a bad thing, if you haven't bought one yet it's not as bad cause you get it cheaper.

As long as I get my games let everything and anything that has to happen happen
-

I don't really get what you are, well, getting at. I also don't get how people can come on here and say that if you have a PS3 already, that's a bad thing... You could argue that even if you buy one after a price drop, it WILL drop in price again, so that must be a bad thing too, right?

I bought my PS3 for the games that it will be getting. As far as I am concerned, if SONY drop the price and sell more consoles, this equals more support from developers, which equals more games.
Having said that, these stealth threads that STILL moan about the price...honestly, you'd think people would be over it by now.Phat boy gone slim!

It's basic Supply and Demand. This is the science of economy, there's no way to escape. For any product, and any business, it's the goal to reach optimum supply and Demand.

Strong early sales = Userbase
Userbase = developer support
Developer support = Long term sales
Long term sales = Increased userbase
He who has the largest userbase gets the best developer support. The most exclusives, and the most multiplatform games designed around it's hardware first.
Or you could do the opposite. Low early sales = lack of userbase = less developer support = smaller userbase = fewer games tailored for your system
In either case, if the system you own isn't the best selling, the games won't be as good as they could have been.
Doesn't effect us multiplatform owners though.
