Why have so many people forgotten games like God of War 2. You are all only mentioning games out or coming out on the PS3, 360 or Wii.
Just because it came out on a last gen system doesn't mean it can't win.

For me, only released games can qualify with the expectation that my list will shift after Mass Effect and Drake's castle are released. The list, in no particular order:

1. Halo 3 (360)
2. GRAW 2 (360/PS3)
3. PGR 4 (360)
4. Bioshock (360)
5. Folklore (PS3)

What I find interesting - 4 out of my 5 picks were platform exclusives. Some of the multi-platform games are pretty good and would have qualified if the 360 version had not been released late in 2006 (Rainbow 6 Las Vegas is a perfect example - it is a brilliant piece of work, though I suck at it), but in general it appears that the exclusive titles just seem better to me. They are better planned, better designed, and better executed. I don't know if this is coincidence or if splitting the dev teams and pursuing the elusive goal of an identical game on two very different platforms burns too much of the designers' time and limits the execution of their creativity. I suspect the latter.

Just goes to show the over focus on FPS in my opinion. I'm not a big FPS fan yet 3 of them are in my GOTY list, which are admitadly great. Be nice for a bit more variety.
