From this, i am kinda worried and i think blu-ray might lose.

    http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...ack_HD_DVD/884

from what it sounds like. an HD-dvd player is gonna be around 200 bucks. now call me crazy but people will flock to this. gettin HD for that cheap. plus ive been reading other forums and a lot of people are going to buy the player. blu-ray might be stuck in a ps3 only kind of stranglehold. i could be completely wrong but this can't be good.

    Old news.

Plus, the players are looking more likely to be $250 instead of $200.

I am not sure if you're serious or not... If you're serious you have nothing to worry about, if you're joking the projected $200 price tag is well known here. Sony have a lot riding on Blu-ray's success don't consider them to go down without a fight, plus Europe has embraced Blu-ray 4:1.

When you realise that you have bitten the hand that feeds you it doesn't take much pursuasion not to do it again. This is classic PR Spin from an overly apologetic director that has realised that his future success and career depends on not ticking off massive film companies like Paramount. Well done Bay, your so insightful.

Regardless of which format "wins", does it really matter? Anybody in their right mind who has any serious interest in HD movies will either have two players anyway, or wait for an affordable combo-player. For the rest of the world, DVD is still more than adequate!

I've got a PS3, but I still buy DVDs, no point forking out extra money for the extra quality that I only notice when sober, and thats not very often.

check the prices of blu ray movies and HD-DVD movies. The HD-DVD version averages to be $4 more per movie. That can add up pretty quickly. Compare the movies on sale this week, HD-DVD versions cost over 2x as much as Blu-Ray this week. If you know of people looking at making a shift to Hi-def, make sure they consider not only the cost of the player, but the individual movies as well

HD-DVD wants you to believe that it is a price war. It's not. People who spend a grand or two on an HDTV won't care if their high def content comes from a $300 movie player in all honesty.

The only thing holding back BluRay is the fact that there IS a format war in the first place and that's it. HD-DVD is cannibalizing the market but since the PS3 is a game player, it will have higher adoption than standalone players this early on. Simply put, I don't understand how you guys can keep being suckers for this. HD-DVD has yet to have a single title get even close to Casino Royale's sales despite all of their price slashing this year.

It's not about price wars, it's about consumer education. The first format to actually hit the ground with boots and educate consumers about the benefits of HD will probably win this race. The thing is, the PS3 is already in livingrooms and game rooms across the world doing exactly that. Soon you will see Disney Stores promoting BluRay, Electronics stores will run ads, and the Target deal is just the tip of the iceberg. This is no longer about HD-DVD being able to win, but how much it can ruin the party for BluRay. The consumers will vote with their wallets and the best movies on the best format will win.

People will buy it and then realise that most films they want to watch in High-definition are exlcusive to blu-ray.

    Lolzer.

I just read in another thread that Blu-Ray will also have a $200 player some time in 2008... so what's the big deal?

Wait till The 3rd Pirates of the Carribean comes out. That will be Blu-ray exclusive
You guys all thought Transformers was a big deal. Only Nerds on here were excited about that (only the younger nerds who didn't grow up with real Transformers).
Pirates will be a bigger hitter.

I agree that transformers was total crap, but Pirates 3 wasnt very good either...The first one was great, second one eh, third one double eh. Just my opinion.

Either way guys this doesnt matter at ALL. If for some reaosn blu-ray completely fails you know Sony will support it until the PS3s end so people wont get pissed at them.

Honestly I doubt the format war will be decided until the end of the PS3 life cycle, and personally Im thinking this format war will end just like the minidisc/dcc format war did. People are just gonna be pissed at the way this whole format war is happening and in the end will just end up not adopting either and a new format will end up ''winning''.

HD DVD has had cheaper hardware all year and it's done them not a lick of good.

Alan Bell, CEO of Paramount, used to work for Warner developing HD DVD technologies - you know where his mindset is.

Blu-ray has so far won every week's worth of sales in North America.

HD DVD is not going to win this war. The industry is deciding on Blu-ray with PVR's, HDD's, Camcorders, burners, PC's, Laptops, standalone players, media, games, gaming consoles, the consumers are picking Blu-ray 66:34 in North America, 80:20 in Europe, 82:18 in Australia, 95:5 in Japan, and that's the end of it. By Christmas 2009 HD DVD will be whispered in the same breaths as SACD, DVD-Audio, Betamax, Laserdisc, etc.

i'll have to agree with most here...but i'd say there is really no more battle/war...if you have been into a target recently they have a blu-ray section twice the size of their hd-dvd section and its only going to get bigger closer to christmas

disney has been running ads the past few weeks with their new movies on blu-ray and if i'm not mistaken the disney store now carries pretty many blu-ray titles

And as far as price of the players goes...hasn't anyone been to ANY store recently...most have blu-ray players for well under 500...i just saw a sony one at best buy for 350 or something?...and to most people who actually own a $3000+ hdtv they'd rather spend the extra money to get whats better overall...and though it'll take another year before i can buy any movie in blu-ray at the launch date it'll be worth the wait

40GB PS3 at 399 is a better deal than HD DVD at 199

True, but how many people are going to ever play any games on it? If somebody wants a high def player, they will just go get a high def player which is the real problem here because a good Christmas for HD-DVD will really sway alot of companies to goto that format.

Well in Australia JB Hi-fi will be dropping the Blu-ray exclusivity and taking on HD-DVD. Before this move I hardly seen HD-DVD anywhere here.

I posted it a little earlier as soon as I got the report.

A lot of people are just waiting for the price to drop on the PS3 in order to get it, if you just count standalone players, then Blu Ray would be dead, the PS3 is its savior though as it probably outsells HD DVD and Blu Ray standalone players combined.
