Demons Souls: Developer Interview + New Screenshots
Quote:
Demon's Souls. No longer Just for RPG fans.
Demon’s souls is a huge advancement for action adventure games, and is likely the greatest evolution for role playing games, a genre that has for the most part been very exclusive and limited in its appeal to other gamers. Most RPG makers over the years have struggled to broaden their fan base while keeping their core audience satisfied. Mostly do to a game play style that has been overly complicated and a combat engine that directly alienates casual gamers who are looking for more immediate gratification.
Where those have struggle demon soul’s is poised to succeed, and can quite possibly broaden the fan base of a fading Genre. There’s a massive amount of depth to Demon’s Souls that will keep just about every hard core RPG fan happy and engrossed in the game. However, Demon’s Souls also offers some original features that will appeal to non-RPG gamers as well. Everything from the breath taking visuals, the visceral music, combat, character creation, and multiplayer features, developer Atlus seems to get every thing right. The one thing most gamers may potentially condemn about Demon’s Souls is it’s difficulty. The game is hard, but not impossible. The challenge will likely be the one thing you both love, and hate about the game. When you finally defeat that boss after dying 20 times it’s a very satisfying feeling, even if you’re screaming and yelling at first.
Death in demons souls is inevitable, but not ending. The soul body though it temporarily saves you from death, it’s significantly weaker than your physical body. The powers and abilities that are available to you in physical form keep you wanting to regain them when their not at your disposal. Given the games difficulty you will hunger and thirst for the physical body, as you’re more powerful in it.
The combat in Demon Souls is designed to make you work hard, and if you plan on hacking and slashing you way to the end, you likely won’t make it to the beginning. In combat you have to think and consider your characters strength and abilities to achieve success in battle. In some case it may mean taking a different path, or going back to purchase some upgrades to even the odds. You will also need to block often, and plan your attacks to be successful. Though combat is unforgiving, once mastered, it’s a very satisfying experience that really makes you feel like the hero.
The controls in Demon’s Souls are a welcomed change for most non RPG gamers, and fans of the genre will find them very intuitive and familiar. The menu navigation is non threatening, and allows you to accomplish some very deep and intuitive customizations, without over whelming you with an over abundance of options you will likely never use. This is an action RPG so you don’t hit X and watch the character attack, you hit X and you character swings, it’s all in real time, and is extremely rewarding.
Demon's Souls is possibly the first true console base multiplayer RPG. It’s the first non-MMO’ RPG to offer PVP, and four player co-op. It also delivers where other RPG’s have promised and failed. The ability to jump into someone else’s game to help, or kill them is a feature that will not go unused, given that it can help you retrieve that invaluable Physical body. To the world of action RPG's this is not a new feature. However, it s never been done this well, and with a game this deep.
Demon souls offers the perfect balance between action game and RPG, it has all the depth and story of all the great RPG's we've come to know and love, including the over the top cut scenes. Maybe for the first time non RPG fans can get a taste of what’s great about RPG’S, while enjoying some of the best action and adventures to release this generation.
The games graphics are fine. trust me, been playing this game for months. The pics dont do it justice. The Game is a BLAST if you dont mind dying a bit. Once you get the hang of it though its even better!
Not too impressed with the graphics in those screen shots.
Are you clicking the bar to resize?
They look better that way.no sarcasm.

A bit ? :P I borrowed the korean version from a friend and I keep dying! Now i've decided to just run the first 2-3 minutes run back to the nexus go back in to get some souls to gear up. Quit fun to see other peoples mistakes though and to see other people in the game and what messages they have left.
Its sad that the servers won't be together and that you can't transfer your saved games over.
Its a very addictive game but incredibly frustrating and the graphics and controls are good once your used to them.
Those screenshots don't do the game justice at all.
At the ending of the game now, been playing for around 60 hours. Still a lot left to do, struggling to kill the secrect boss in the first world and got tons of weapons to find and upgrade aswell as the magic too XD
I didn't find the game as hard as so others found it but I do think its amongst the hardest games this generation.
Imported in March and have played for 100s of hours. This is my favorite PS3 game to date easily. I also have the NA Limited Edition version reserved as well. Can't wait to start all over again.
If someone who is fluent at Japanese could translate this it would be great. It's an article from the Demon's Souls producer and director at CEDC2009 where they talk about the game and the current game industry.
