Enterbrain President Hirokazu Hamamura has said that although the PlayStation 3’s penetration in Japanese territories has been slower than anticipated, he is confident that the issue is now being resolved.
Speaking to MCV, Hamamura commented, “The PS3’s penetration pace has been slower than I expected. Its higher price tag and software development difficulties have been major causes for stalling the growth of its installed base. However, these problems are gradually being resolved.”
Despite this, he added that the console would benefit from another price cut, stating, “If the console gets another price cut by the year-end shopping season, I believe its penetration pace will become accelerated.”
For those unaware, Enterbrain is the publisher behind Japan’s prestigious gaming magazine, Famitsu.

Sorry to say but the problems wont be "fixed" failing to hold onto exclusives and a high price tag and weak online compared to XBL.

Does that mean they'll stop letting MS buy all the good games...I seriously doubt it. Are they going to finally start releasing games on time..I doubt it. Are they going to reduce the price in line with the competition...I doubt it.
Face it, Sony are living in a dream world. The PS brand isn't as big as it used to be. They need to start listening to those who got them to be this big in the first place.

I thought the problem with PS3 in Japan is what the PaRappa creators said, the console was just too big.
That is one problem, since they tend to like small products, but a pricecut would help.

@16
i know, but i have no interest in getting a 360, and i think they also need to drop the price of new games. who has $59.99 plus about $5 in tax to shel l out to get a new game. and the Wii is just ridiculous. there is no way those game are worth $50. they should be no more than $30 for new games. sorry thats my little rant

@optim_00 Man you need to get a better job obviously... Compared to my countrys prices you guys oversea gets really cheap games! Because of the low dollar right now, one buck is about 4,5 kroner (Danish currency). And therefore we should pay 270 kr. for a game, yet we pay 550! That's 120$ right there! Therefore I see no reason for you to complain!

@TripleDK
I'm sorry, but just because you guys are getting screwed and paying way to much, doesn't mean i still can't complain bout the prices being too high here. Think about this...Kids dont have jobs to pay for games, so when they want something they have to ask their parents. And like Xeon said , the economy isn't really at its best right now. so after their parents pay all their bills, do u think its fair for them to fork out almost $100 to pay for 1 game?

FYI.....get a game fly subscription and pay the price to keep it which is WAY LESS than Gamestop or anywhere else ( I rented Devil May Cry and they told me 19.99 to keep it and they sent me the box and booklet I repeat 19.99 for a 60.00 dollar game) and if you stay in another country tough s#!t, that your problem, every place has a gift and a curse to deal with.

I have to say. talk about a walking contraditction. You could call me a soft core PS3 fan boy but I get all my info from PSU and all I usally hear is how well the PS3 has sold in Japan an then this is posted with no reflective argument, even an opinion from the poster would have been warrented.
Problems are being resolved, well schmite me almighty schmiter...
Whats that coming over the hill? Oh its Mikey?
