Firmware 2.30 is expected to be available on April 15 and along with it will be the release of the newly redesigned PlayStation Store. The Official PlayStation Blog has taken it upon themselves to treat the readers with a walkthrough of the new store presented by Grace Chen. We've included the video below for your viewing pleasure, enjoy it:
On top of the nicely detailed walkthrough, the blog has also released the details for the upcoming firmware 2.30. Due to the feedback and outcry of home theatre enthusiasts, Sony is finally giving its users the best audio quality to go along with their top of the line high definition video support.
Yes, this does mean that DTS-HD Master Audio output will now be available via your PlayStation 3 console. This audio track is the exact replication of the one used by the studios to film the movie. This means your audio will be delivered at the impressively high rate of 24.5 mega-bits per second. Alongside this addition, the firmware will also bring DTS-HD High Resolution Audio which is apparently very similar to the DTS-HD Master Audio except for the fact that it takes up a lot less disc space.
When you add in the new store offering with the two updated audio options, you come away with a very impressive firmware update around the corner. There is at least a little something for everyone out of this one and with the newly found belief that Home may possibly make an appearance within this update, it becomes something to potentially look forward to; however, don't hold your breath or get those hopes up too high.
We'll keep you updated with future firmware updates down the road, keep checking in.

Firmware update?! OMG!!! No ingame text messaging?! Not interested!
I want more features in the updates. Text message in game is a simple feature! Why cant they put it?! I dont even ask for XMB in game, just the text messaging.
I dont want to be picky on this but I only visit the PSN store once a week! I download the new demos and thats it! The new visual seems good, they say the miniature stills load faster and all but I will still visit it once a week! No matter how good it looks or loads.

How about making a h3ll of a lot easier method of creating themes, perhaps something more akin to LittleBIGplanet's level/character customisation, but using HDD content. Yeah! I know it'd take away the sense of achievement, I'm sure I'm not alone, but I really hate asking for themes (cos, I'm sure they have better ideas of their own)

I like the new look of the store. I kind of thought that the content on the Web based store wasn't organized too well and I really like the fact that past content that you download don't just disappear from the store as well.
I guess the only thing that is the most anticipated is in game XMB, but the new Playstation Store update looks very nice.

Wow, so many complaints...Instead of being grateful that Sony is revamping the store (which it really needs) and giving us a much better expierience, the majority of you are complaining like a bunch of teenage girls. "where's my in-game xmb" "no home? Sony sucks!" "whaaa whaa whaa" Just be thankful for what is being done and know that eventually they will deliver what everyone wants! I for one am very thankful for what is being done. Thank you, Sony.
BTW...Grace is Hot!

to DeadOnArrival06: We are greatful we just figure that sony seems like they are holding back when they can just bring stuff out. They are so sure that Ps3 is the ultimate system that when ps3 first came out all these things should have already been on the ps3 like home and in-gaming texting and all the lil stuff.

@Chimpy and others who complain about lack of features
Why dont u just return your ps3 and buy something that does what you want instead of crying about it. If you arent satisfied then buy something that will. Am I i the only one who brought a ps3 to play games O.o Cry me a river...

that FW isnt so great HONESTLY, wat happened to their less updates for more content stuff? i hope that this isnt all thats in the update, a new store and 2 master quality audio options are good, but come on, surly u coulda added some more features than that sony? :( see this is why there old strategy was better, we were getting more stuff more often, and so far, theyve done ok, but really have only let us down with their "less updates for more content" plan, come on sony.

Sony could have easily given us the top 10 most desired features last year but then if they did that then there would be no new interesting features for the future, so they have been holding back the features and are spreading them out through the years. I bet these features like in-game xmb are ready now and if they aren't why do they waste time on updates that nobody or hardly anyone will benefit from? While everyone wants in-game messaging, Sony gives DTS-HD master audio to the small minority. I'm still not happy that I can't have audio through my tv and digital optic cable for my 5.1 headphones simultaneously, even though I could have on my PS2. I know its not a big enough issue but surely it'll take no time at all to fix.
I do think that the store needed improvements and it looks like they have delivered a store that eveyone will be satisfied with, its now all about how much content is put on it each week. Home is understandable as its a big ambitious project that needs time.

What's up with all the suckers here. I say we need to complain more, let the voice be heard, request what you want. Sony's here to make money, he cares only if we give him crap instead of money. I don't get you people, if you were a slave, and they gave you a meal a week, and other slaves would complain how they're slave, you'd tell them to chill out and be thankfull for their meal a week!! You paid for that PS3, it should be worth all your penny and more, Sony is not doing this cause they're nice, so shut it. I say it's a nice store update, one that really really needed an update from the start, but it took to long to come out, and so does everything else.

@ didibus: completely on target. We paid for the system and Sony is still not delivering things we've demanded, and competitors have offered, for too long. I'm not saying to go sell your system, because without a doubt the ps3 has some killer games and great potental in the feature department, but we're the consumer and the point is not that we should be thankful - we're paying their bills remember - but that Sony has still not delivered on things that should have been included over a year ago.
People need to realize that sony, and all other companies, are not a jesus at heart, they just want our money. So if they really want to be succesful w/ this system, they need to get things out sooner and out right. And to all you people that say you'd rather it be out right later than have a bunch a bugs sooner, it is possible to have it both right and out fast, but it wont happen unless you demand it.
Oh and @I95South: We should be thankful that sony follows up with their products? Firmware is a way for them to improve their product over their competitors', to attract more people to spend their moolla on a ps3. And remember being thankful doesn't mean stopping progress. If we were just "thankful" and didn't demand better, nothing would ever improve. In most major corporations, if the consumer doesn't complain, the company doesn't deliver.

@Neameto what have you been playng... last time i checked you could do in-game messaging with Army Of Two, Burnout Paradise, Lost Planet, Resistance, Rock Band, R6V, and R6V2... these are the only titles i'm aware of since these are the only ones in my library that have that feature... i've noticed that they've been coming out with this in alot of recent Multiplayer titles.... but In-Game XMB would be better than this... especially for those single player times...
