ID Software announced last night that it's currently working on Doom 4, the next in the popular horror based FPS series that has been critically acclaimed by many gamers.

A Job listing posted by the company indicates that the game will be released on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, although no further information on the plot, setting or characters that will be present in the game have been mentioned.

"DOOM is part of the id Software DNA and demands the greatest talent and brightest minds in the industry to bring the next installment of our flagship franchise to Earth," said CEO Todd Hollenshead of id Software.

"It's critical for id Software to have the best creative minds in-house to develop games that meet the standards synonymous with our titles."

ID Software is currently looking for a number of roles to be filled for the project, including Lead Designer, Lead Animator and Producer.

More on Doom 4 when we get it.

Doom pretty much set the bar for FPS back when it was introduced. Sticking to the topic though, I hope this one is more like the original rather than Doom 3 (hallways, monster scares, shoot). Just gonna have to wait and see!

I hope they set a new bar with this one.. the last one was deemed the most scary game ever created.. it got boring though so heres to hoping they will have something to keep your interest in the game longer this time around.

psn id: gingo.... i have to agree wholly with 1Two3 they have to take this back to the Doom beginnings and make it another ultimate game that everyone remebers and loves and i think they lost some of that with Doom 3, but still very excited by this news

Trent Reznor did the score for Quake 1...not Doom 1...although he did have his hand a little in the sound engineering for Doom 3

I'm seriously hoping for some offline and LAN multiplayer options.  I remember my neighbor and I racing to finish the original first.

No doubt this game will be dragged down if it has to be made to fit on the 360,should just keep with ps3,pc versions.

The games direction all depends on the engine, so they better make it good.
